RB320 Mesh Grille

Hey guys, I have a quick question about the mesh grille on the RB320 modified by prodrive. The front itself has peaked my interest the most on something I'd look into getting for my STi, right now i've looked all over for mainly the lower portion which aligns with the body and isn't installed from the inside, but rather bolted onto the outside. Good example of the grill is on this picture...

Some of the older models have kits for the front by prodrive and other companies. For a better example, here is another picture...

So i'm just wondering, if there is any chance of finding that grill now. I'll probably have to wait until the RB320 is out in the market and aftermarket kits are made for the 06, like the roof vane. Oh btw, this is my first post heh so I guess i'll introduce myself, I used to be a proud owner of an '05 WRX, sold it off about a month ago to a lucky guy in Hollywood, S. Florida. Going to be moving to Hawaii in about 6 months for college, and i'm gonna buy an 06 STi. Anyways, thanks in advance guys and I hope I can eventually get more active on the forums.

Yeah, I want mesh for my lower grille too. Maybe I won't pick up any more soda cans.

If it will keep the birds out of my radiator, it will make me happy. Ive caught 3 in the 7 months Ive owned mine
| ShiroChanWRX | 01-01-2007 03:29 PM |
do you think that it will keep birds out at speed? i mean, i'll bet that it would get pretty banged up if you hit a bird at 40-50 mph, let alone highway speeds.

home depot material = about as sturdy as a piece of paper....
does not look quality. doesnt hold up. does not paint and hold paint well.
IMHO if you're going to put a grille on there for protection purposes
do it right

FYI I test fit the grille when it was sent over here back around July last year, but it's meant for the UK/JDM grill which is different than the US grill so it would have to be modified to fit as the instructions they sent were pretty vauge. IIRC Prodrive USA was looking at sourcing them together with the JDM/UK grill pieces as put together and painted.

Sounds good, so it just looks like i'll have to wait for prodrive to convert it for US subies.

+1 for grillcraft.
Just put on the upper and lower over christmas. Lower can be installed in about an hour or two without taking anything off of the car. Upper takes a little longer as it requires some semi optional dremelling. Upper install took about 4 hours, but there was a lot of dremelling and drinking. But overall, it looks very sharp. Got rid of the clownnose emblem on my bullnose.
Black on WRB
For OBP, I like the silver grill.

My only problem with the grillcraft grill is that if you want to run a front mount you will take that plasic piece out of the bumbper for better air flow.
But...
That grill will have a gap where that plastic piece was..
Do they make a bigger one that will cover it , or can I keep that piece in if i get my FMIC

How is the lower grille mounted - existing / factory points; double-sided foam tape; drilling the bumper cover?
For the upper grilles, what had to be Dremeled? The new grilles or the bumper cover itself?
Thanks.

I like the grillcraft lower mounted grill, but the problem is I don't like it. lol, the grillcraft set is nice, but when I saw the prodrive RB320 mesh grille, I had to get a new pair of pants. I basically drool over the fact that the chrome mesh grille blends perfectly with the front bumper and gives it a more aggresive look, I tried to get in contact with Dan at Prodrive, but he hasn't replied. The last reply I got from him was ...

The grillcraft grills are mounted with screws through the plastic into metal locking tabs. It's a solid assembly.
Lower grill has 3 tabs, bottom and sides. You need to drill holes for each one. The bottom is one easy. For the sides, you need to drill a small access hole inside the foglight assembly (you'll never see it). And all the screws go from the outside in. Grillcraft has instructions for these, but they aren't the greatest.
Upper grill install requires removal of the three plastic grill pieces. Be careful, I snapped some tabs after getting a little forceful. You dremel out the existing black plastic mesh and put the new grills in front of that. You need to dremel out the center one, not necessarily the sides, but I think it looks better if you do.
Hope that helps. Check through grillcraft's site, and this one, there are a few threads.
And the grillcraft badges come off if you don't want to see them.

It's not like the grillcraft lower grill is bad, it's just that the RB320 has more of an "Official" look and I love the way it just fits right over the bumper and it just has more "appeal" to me. If I can't find any replica's of the RB320, i'd definately go for the grillcraft grill. I think my problem is that I haven't waited for the RB320 to even come out yet lol. Test driving for the first 50 customers of the RB320 is on the 12-15th of January, so maybe that will help predict the official distribution of all RB320's in the UK.

Grillecraft vs. Prodrive

Horacio at Prodrive emailed me back and said they have the grille for the RB320 of course but that it only fits JDM and didn't say anything about it being redone for the US markets or if it was mod-able to fit US.
I think the Prodrive looks tight...my friend thinks it looks ricey...i beg to differ.
So...I ordered the lower grill from Grillecraft in BLack for my black wagon. I want to buy the upper but I will wait to see how the lower installs and looks. I think if you get one you gotta get the other...they look better together.
Has anyone got the Upper and lower from GrillCraft and mounted the front emblem back on the grille with the black plastic raised piece on it? I need to know how to do this before i buy the upper.
I have to have my front emblem...but the Pics from GrillCraft have no logo...and the reps at Grillcraft don't offer it.
any ideas?

so which part of the prodrive kit doesnt fit our USDM cars?
i woulda thought that if the bottom fit, we could just get the bottom from prodrive and the top from grillcraft, and problem is solved....
but then i might be on the stupid side of the fence thinking that the two mesh patterns are the same...:P

not the best pic...but here's a lower black grillcraft on my04. It's not completely recessed. However, I like that it alignes with the black portion in the front bumper, which sits back about 1" from being flush.

the seller was " [emailprotected]" emial him or search him on ebay, no black that icould find. For some reason he was removed from ebay, but sent me a email saying they are trying to fix that. not sure what happened. i got my parts fast and in good shape. i would buy from him again.

Lower Grille Cover w/FMIC

Does anyone know of a viable option for a lower grille on an '02 WRX with an FMIC? The Grillcraft piece doesn't work because you have to remove the top black plastic piece when installing the FMIC and the same goes for the Prodrive unit. Once you remove the black plastic piece, there is not place to screw the grille to. I'm not interested in trying to put together some gutter covers from Lowe's or Home Depot to make this work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Grillcraft now makes grills from the woven stainless mesh. I contacted them recently and they said that any grill they already make can be custom made with the stainless mesh! Dont know price but know they can do it.

I talked to Jerry from Grillcraft last night and he said that although he gets this question a lot, it would be cost prohibitive for them to rework/create tooling for a lower grille that goes all the way up (similar to the Prodrive model).

I think it looks very good. Blends in nicely. The only thing I notice is it doesn't follow the outer curve of the front bumper like the grillcraft, but some may like it better your way.

I have upper and lower silver grillcraft for my 06 STi and I'm replacing them with custom so that they match my CF hood mesh. PM if anyone wants my grillcrafts.
