Rear all red tints, Yes or No?

The picture does not do enough justice, I just do not want to overkill with red.

Too much red for me, especially with the debadged trunk - but to each his own :)

Honestly looks better than I expected as well. But I agree that is an awful lot of red all together.

I would like to do this, but I've wondered about the legality of it, anyone know if it looks red when backing up (I would assume it does) and if this is illegal? Thanks.

Let's see.... every other car on the road has white BU lights.... I'm going to assume yes it is illegal....

dont back up around the po-po thats easy but here in cali it would just be a reason to get pulled over so they can tell you to pop your hood and give you a smog ticket.
| Handsdown | 03-17-2006 11:52 AM |
i like the look but would upgrade to an aux. back up light... a well needed upgrade anyway.

I like it too, very subtle yet very noticable to subie enthusiaists. I thought you meant to tint all three back windows red and I feared seeing some nice subie riced out.

wow. I am going to vote ith the minority and say no. Its not bad looking, I just prefer the old look. My .02 :)
edit: I think a black overlay would look better, if you felt the urge for change.

I actually had black and hated it, but honestly the picture does not do justice it looks clean and flows great. I do not think it is illegal, here in Texas they never check your back up lights during inspection.

It looks pretty good man...I wouldnt give it an awkward eye if i saw that car:)

That doesn't mean it's legal. Here in PA they don't check window tint for inspection, but you can still get pulled over and ticketed for it.

Do you think it's just COINCIDENCE that 99% of cars from the factory have white lights for reverse lighting?
Well since I'm obviously full of BS, here's the Arizona statue regarding your question:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARS 28-931. Lamp colors
A. Front clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vehicle shall display or reflect an amber color.
B. Rear clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear or on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.
C. All lighting devices and reflectors mounted on the rear of any vehicle shall display or reflect a red color, except that:
1. The stoplight or other signal device may be red, amber or yellow.
2. The light illuminating the license plate or the light emitted by a backup lamp shall be white.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So yes, at least in AZ if you red out your back up lights, you open yourself to a ticket. Check your local statues and see, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's illegal there too.

No, I didn't I was trying to ask if the light emitted was white "enough" and if that would still be illegal. But I didn't clarify that in my original post. Obviously red backup light would look like a break light. very dangerous in my opinion.

It wasn't the answer, it was the attitude that I was surprised with.

I've seen this honda accord (dunno what year but it was nsx taillight style) that had its rear center lights deleted (part of the decklid) so it was left with just triangles for taillights. In the process of deleting a portion of his taillights he also deleted his reverse lights. Then he used aftermarket or oem (from another vehicle) reverse lights and mounted them on the right and left side of his license plate. It looked very clean and functional
Also check how the nissan r34 rears are designed with reverse lights seperate from the brake lights
