Roof chops on a GC? part 1

Roof chops on a GC?
Anyone tried a roof chop on a GC? Thinking about doing something like this:

BurtonCR 10-04-2006 03:53 PM

That will probably cost in the $10k+ range when done correctly. Custom glass, custom roof, custom frame restructuring... the list goes on.
Bad Wagon 10-04-2006 04:03 PM

Thats goofy looking why would you want to do that? Maybe to a GC8 but not that just looks weird.
dubya-R-ex 10-04-2006 05:16 PM

that looks really............expensive. Are you trying to make an extremely non-aerodynamic car "more" aerodynamic? What is your motive?

'cuz he can
TurmultTee 10-04-2006 08:30 PM

There is a chopped and shorghtened Evo somewhere. Looks really good. I think it is green.
JBravo920 10-04-2006 09:28 PM

I cant make up my mind, I either really like, or really hate those pieces on the side of the headlights. I think its not a bad idea at all since there is nothing that goes there...maybe if I could see the same thing in CF, I might like it a little more....

A buddy of mine showed me his chopped 240SX the other day. It looked absolutely killer.

Not having window frames on the doors to think about would make it a little easier. I think a chopped GC would look pretty awesome if the coilovers were slammed. The geometry of the front end would match up nicely with a shortened windshield.
WRXSIG 10-05-2006 01:10 AM

I would do that if i wanted gay men to like my car.
WRXDriftR 10-05-2006 01:18 AM

makes it look WAAAY to american
Counterfit 10-05-2006 03:00 AM

Chops and drops should be limited to pre-war American cars.
oldhat 10-05-2006 03:01 AM

It's just the new front end that makes it look American, a GC would look 100% Japanese.
oldhat 10-05-2006 03:06 AM
Chops and drops should be limited to pre-war American cars.
Why? Because that's how it's always been done? I'd rather try blending old techniques with something new than swipe daddy's credit card on a carbon fiber hood and call it a "mod."

It's funny how risk- and originality-averse this place is.

haven't you figured it out yet?

Thats the Norris Design Evo, British Car, well based in Engerland!
Calamity Jesus 10-05-2006 08:14 AM

I already have enough trouble getting a decent seating position in my GM with my helmet on. The last thing you'd want to do to an Impreza is chop the roof.. the great visibility is half the reason to own the car.
It's just the new front end that makes it look American, a GC would look 100% Japanese.
 No.
slowscooby 10-05-2006 11:11 AM

Awwww I have always wondered what a chopped scooby would look like. And it looks BADASS. I want it.

Any more info on the car?

Forget these Nasy haters...
Bad Wagon 10-05-2006 11:37 AM

I think if you are going to drop the money on chopping the roof why don't you do somthing truley unique like shorten the body and make it a two door. I bet they would cost around the same to do. I really don't see any advantage to doing that. If you race or crash it it just puts the roof closer to crushing your head if you flip. Not to mention it makes your doors look huge and the car is flared so its kinda pulling it off. Better yet make a convertable so at least that way you have a functional reason for making your car a deathtrap.

Dude there are plenty of other things to do to your car then chop the roof and be original and innovative, not to mention he has a pic of somebody who has already done it. Original?

I just finished four projects on my wagon that I haven't seen yet that required no modification to the structural integrity of the car. Just put your thinking cap on and do some research and you'll find there are plenty of things to try, sure you'll get flamed for it as will I when I finish but.... its not about that is it?

Dear Bad Wagon:

Please tell me if the pic is of a GC.

Love,

Old Hat

P.S. Plenty of other things like...what? More bolt on carbon fiber crap that everyone else has? Are your parents really going to let you "mod" the car they bought you for your sweet 16?
slowscooby 10-05-2006 11:58 AM

^ yeah but chopping a top and cutting a car in half then welding it back together are two totally different things. Think of the way it's going to affect chassis rigidity and structure if you cut it in half, take some out, and put it back together.

A roof isn't as bad. Add in a strong roll cage...and you're good to go.

All the old school rat rod guys chop tops all the time and don't shorten the body. I think it looks fine the way it is.

No there is no visible carbon fiber on my Wagon, and my parents didn't pay for s**t but I least I use the money I have to make it better. Not ruining your car so you can some 60's chop to you car because you saw it on American hot rod. You going to stick a big blower out of the hood too? You want to get tough with me and no one else for saying no fine. I wasn't trying to be a jerk and you can talk all the **** you want but if you looking for the masses to support you for thinking about destroying your car you won't get it. At least I was trying to help rather then just being a dick.

Why don't you do somthing usefull and post your thread in the photoshop thread and have sombody do it to a pic of your car to see. Then post it back up here and see if people change there mind. You going for an "all show and no go" type of car because you could make your car pretty fast with money your going to waste.
iheartmysuby 10-05-2006 01:09 PM

That's hilarious considering I just finished my right hand drive conversion with a full JDM drivetrain swap. My 2500 lb. car and its closed deck EJ20G plant has more than enough go to blow the doors off of your mom's hand-me-down station wagon.

HTH.
sixtsix 10-05-2006 04:28 PM

For what it's worth, it looks like a sore neck waiting to happen.

Then do it, who give a flying f**k what you do with your car. Just don't get all butt hurt when you post it on an open forum and put a question mark on it like you want our opinion because you obviously don't. You think I care that your on the other side of the car with an ej20 swap. Youre getting all pissed off like I am attacking your car and all I said was don't chop it. Then you attack my car like we are going to through down. My little "station wagon" is not slow or any type of hand me down so f**k yourself and I hope you flip that thing and pinch your neck between your shoulders and the roof. You want to attack my car I could really care less but don't just spit **** out there like a little high school b**ch with your balls in your hands looking to pick a fight. Grow up and learn to be a little more understanding of other people opinions if youre going to ask for them.

Better yet why don't you post your "fly ride" on here so we can see how big your balls really are if you think your so much better then me. I am sure my hand-me-down station wagon is a lot more car then you think and whether it has more power dosen't matter. A**holes with faster cars are just bigger A**holes.
blind26 10-05-2006 05:10 PM

Get ready to drop some big bucks...

To do a front rake/chop on a Fiero costs almost 5k, and that's from a guy that's been doing it for years w/ all the plexiglass windows already made up...
(this just involves cutting a section of the a-pillar out, stretching the roof down, then slanting the windshield and replacing the windows w/ custom plexi windows and misc interior bits to fit)

doing a 4 door is going to be alot of work...
GC_Anthony 10-05-2006 05:29 PM

Bad wagon and old hat should fight. Oh wait e thugs right.

FWIW: swapping a JDM drivetrain and doing a RHD conversion on a GC is NOT original. Freaking awesome, but not original.

Look for the thread that shows the A pillars construction. The thread is on why the jaws of life will not cut a Subaru a pillar.Im not saying it caint be done im saying good luck.Brad

I thought it was the B pillar.
elsanto 10-06-2006 09:43 AM
I thought it was the B pillar.
and I thought that was only on the GD+ body styles.. HENCE why its heavier, and why it is more rigid...

personally i love this idea. try to sell it to a few local body shops tell they you'll take a RHD Gc8 Swapped CHOPPED subaru to every local car show, and someone may even do it for cost.

don't let the herd pursuade you, follow your heart and don't doubt yourself if you have the money you can make it happen.

oh and be sure to slap a 22b kit on it before repainting!
