Where's my license?

SCCA has not sent me my ProSolo license yet. I have called and faxed for the past 5 weeks. I leave messages and nada. I paid for it at the Oscoda Prosolo on the last weekend in June. Between this and moving the RS to STX in 04, I wonder what's happening to me. It's like the Force is not with me. So, don't pick me to win anything. My string of bad luck goes as followed:

I had a wheel bearing failure at a local event and haven't solo'd with the car running right since the Topeka divisional, 8/4.

After the Oscoda PS, someone backs into the front bumper of my car, no insurance and driver's license. This was in South Bend, IN on my way to the Peru NT from Oscoda PS. I eventually collected on this.

At the Peru NT, a canopy rolls across the hood and fender while I am working the course. It even hits my g/f in the head. I collected on this also, she's okay, I think. I will get the damage repaired after Nats.

At the Wendover Prosolo, on Sunday, noone that works heat 2 would relieve the heat 1 workers so I get out 10 min late and hurry to check out of my hotel and get a bite. Well, I show up to pregrid about 5 min late and lose a set of runs, slipping from 3rd to 7th, worst finish of the year.

Why am I going to Nationals? I will be there for the nationals because its a great event and I get to meet a lot of great people, see neat cars, and its only 2 hours from where I live.

My prediction is a bunch of Subies having a good time for the first year of STX! KC, Kiko, and Daivd Smith should lead the Subaru field against the Type R's lead by Tood Meade and Sean Louisin and the M3's of Marc Dana and Robert Puertas.

My goal is to not be DFL.;)

Good luck to everyone!

See you in Topeka.:)

Edit: I'm #5 STX...

Likewise going with the goal of NDFL. Figure even with that, I'm gonna have a tough battle on my hands....
But I am gonna have fun, and enjoy meeting some folk, and no doubt learn some things!

Wanted to support STX as a national class; its such a natural fit for the Rex. Hey, maybe it'll rain.... (I'd only say that among Suby folk)

Looking forward to meeting you all

I'll be up on Friday evening. I am running the warmups on Saturday.
It might be KC who wins, but there are some other that I think could give him a run. We shall see.

Good luck to all! Stop by the photo booth next to GRM...

and say hi. I'll give you an i-club discount. I'll be in the Wednesday and Friday banquets as well doing winner shots for SportsCar. If you want to get a closer look at the course I will be looking for spotters all week long.

In addition to Chris, GRM will have several staff members there. Per will be running our '02 Civic Si in STS, and the car is as ready as it's going to get. Fresh BFG tires just arrived, and the car is nearly packed for the trip west. Our publisher, Tim Suddard, will also be at Nationals, running our MINI Cooper in H Stock. Longtime GRM regular Jim Pettengill will be co-driving a rotary-powered E Mod Fiat X1/9, while our photographer, Rupert Berrington (WRX wagon driver) will be shooting the event for us.

We'll have a booth set up on vendor row, so feel free to stop by for a sticker, peek at the cars or whatever.

For you STX folks, I'm interested to see how you fare against one of the CenDiv guys I've run against. His name is Todd Meade and he drives an ITR (BOO, HISS). I've had a hard time beating him this year but hey, I'm running STX in a mostly stock car. Good luck to all you guys and I hope to see a WRX in first place. I had to cancel my registration due to some work conflicts but I WILL be there next year.

Have fun and go fast!:)

You and I can team up next season when I move back up there. I've been informed that we need to lay down the smack on this guy! j/k
I've emailed Todd about the OVR region. I'm looking forward to meeting him at Nats.

BTW - I'm originally from the Toledo area and my wife just took a job in Columbus so expect to see me at MANY events in 2003. My parents are in Toledo and my mother in law is in Troy, MI so I plan to put plenty of miles on the car going to events!

Subies doing good

I was working during the STS and STX cars, so I don't have exact info, but...

Subies are at the top of both classes. Richard West is doing excellent in STS, as is Hiro, Erik K. and Eric C. The course is very Subie friendly. It is short and slow, so our short second gears are an advantage.

I'm not sure how DS is doing. I was busy getting my tires switched across the rims when they were running. I do know that one of the WRXs, Tom Hoppe's I believe, was being protested. Not sure why, and I wasn't around to find out the conclusion.

I lead GS after Heat 1, but that's because Priebe and Carpenter had cones. Priebe is in the lead now, with Russell Blume, then me, then Carpenter. I'm happy to be right in the mix. GS on the west coast hasn't been super fast, so I wasn't sure what to expect going against the big guns. I'll have my work cut out for me catching Brian, but I plan on trying!

The forcast is calling for possible showers on tuesday and wednesday. I'm kinda hoping they come true :)

Really nice to get some almost real-time feedback on whas-happnun.
Heading out at 4:30 tomorrow morning.

Orion; watching the weather channel this morning reminded me of the years I lived in S.E. Texas. You, and the other Texas folk stay dry, ya'll. And drive carefully

What you really need to do is have is slowly follow you north; like outrun it by a couole of days.

Now, if I can just get to sleep

[/B][/QUOTE]Which course are you working? :) Did you see my nice slide in the morning on the right side? (Red light)

I need to cut some vinyl so I'll keep this short.

Tom ran very well today. Tom was protested for mods that would increase boost by Larry Fine. They put a boost gauge up to both Larrys and Tom's cars to avoid a complete turbo teardown. Tom was running 13.5 lbs. Protest settled.

I had a bad morning and decent afternoon. Kiko's running very strongly. It was about 98 degress today and a slight afternoon 'breeze' if you could call it that. (The temp/compass in my wife's truck was reading 114 on the glass).

It was hot and I didn't stick around that much since I didn't have to work until tomorrow. (3rd heat and challenge)

See y'all when ya get here. :)

Oh yeah, next year... if you can; Candlewood Suites has in every room a Gigabit Ethernet connection, being the geeks we are... it may be a factor. :D

trhoppe 09-07-2002 10:16 PM

Im doing well in DS. Have an almost 4 tenths lead on class and the car is handling great.

Like KC said, Larry Fine protested me for having my boost too high. Long story short, after putting boost gauges on both cars, Larry ran 15psi in 2nd gear, while I had 13.5psi. Nothing to see here!
This is great, 1st year autoxing and I've gotten officially protested twice now and beat the protests out both times....woohoo!

Priebe and Blume cleaned up in GS, but Chris is still in great shape and just needs a little oomph tommorow and he will be in good shape.

Richard West is taking care of STS right now, but I have a feeling the two Erics will be turning it up a notch tommorow.

Any word on how Neal Tovsen (SUV-ETR) and Katie Lacey (RS Chic) are doing in GS?

CONGRATULATIONS Tom!!! Great driving! I'm not at Nats unfortunately but I did win an Auto-X today. 2nd FTD to a Zo6 that is race prepped. I was on corded Kumhos:lol: Very tight, very small course. Hope to be out there with you all next year.

Dave

Now go win Solo II DS and kick some ITR butt.

I went to watch today and took some pics. I'm uploading them right now on my ImageStation account. I'll post a link when I get everything set up. The only bad thing about Imagestation now is they will require a person to register to view pics. What can I say it's free.

It was cool to see so many Subarus out there this year :)

Speaking of getting spanked.
I had a HORRIBLE day today. Drove like crap and I am in what seems like 10000th (14th) place, about 0.8 seconds back. I will be able to get most of that back tommorow as long as I drive normal, but I pretty much killed my chances of a National Championship. I guess as long as I can crack the top 10 tommorow, I will be happy.

On a happy note. A WRX driven by andrew hahn and ramsey foster is sitting pretty in 6th and 7th place respectively. Good driving today by them.

Nice to see they got the conebasher car back together, I guess they were frantically working on it to get it fixed in time. Sitting in 14th though, those cars at the top of SM are untouchable it seems.

Congrats Tom on moving into trophy position. I race with Ramsey, so I'm sad to see that he drop a few places, but the times were SUPER tight. A little over half a second between 7th and 14th... after two days.
At least it's not all Typre R's all at the top anymore.
TheWRX 09-12-2002 03:52 PM

Three Civics leading STS after the first day, the best 2.5 RS is on 5th place. Maybe they should move the Civic to STX because it's too fast for STS? ;)
Corey 09-12-2002 09:27 PM

I saw that... Since when did Chris Shennefeld start driving a civic... I thought he drove a Bimmer. Looks like he got a ride for some reason.

Corey #89 SM
Opie 09-12-2002 09:36 PM

Well I can officially say I got "OWNED" today!! :D STS ran the North course today, the course was really, really fast! I currently sit in 33rd  place out of 50 drivers! (What were you saying about feeling like 10000th place Tom! :) ). my best time was a 54.174, I know I left a whole bunch of time out there...I even know where I left it...just couldn't put it together. Tommorrows course looks a little more freindly...hopefully I can pick up a few seconds (like 4 ;) ). Lots of Scoobies are placed throughout STS, but damn those Civics are fast!! Overdogs I think...LOL

Damn, how come I can make it from Tampa to Topeka (1409 miles) in such good time (19 hours, 74.1mph average speed), but I can't travel less than a mile in 50 seconds! go figure!

Good luck to all the Scoobies tomorrow...need to see some Scooby domination again. We've had some small showers this evening....might have Scooby weather tomorrow! regardless, we all need to pick it up a few notches.
Peaty 09-12-2002 09:46 PM

50% chance of rain tomorrow, one can only hope. Maybe I should wash my car and up the chances.

I wanted to get out there again but the wife went out of town and no one to watch the little ones :(

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow, wish I could be there to shoot more pics.

Chris purchased Jason Tipple's Civic from last year. And Jason rebuilt another 89 Civic. They both weigh about 2100lbs.

Heh maybe they should talk about moving 89 Civic Sis out of the class, it looks like those two guys crushed everyone else. 1.8s between 2nd and 3rd. Good job to the 4th and 5th place Subies.
