Didn't the US get tight-wadded by only donating 15mil at first?"
Hell, he beats Sandra Bullock who only donated 1mil. Go Schumy!

Cool. I was just going to post this after reading it in the German paper "Bild". Very classy guy. I think its the largest personal donation so far.

it's always good to see the people that actually ahve money using for things like this.
now tiger woods (whow made .3 million more) who is the most payed sports athlete needs to step up and give some flow to his half homeland.

Very cool!
Lot's of Euro's died in this disaster. I think I heard that this was the most Swedes to dies in one event in something like 400 years! They loved the beaches of Thailand while their country froze ...

Very cool move for Schumacher, who also bought an Italian villa this week for a cool $33M USD. He beat out many a Hollywood type for the pad...

Yeah, read that too. Funny. The thing is you've got the Oprah's, the tom cruise's, etc. that have much more coin. No word from those folks yet. I was doing some rouch calculations though, and Schumy's donation is only providing about $2 for each of those 5 million people that are left homeless. He needs to step it up some more! ;) :p
| DoctorNick | 01-05-2005 03:00 AM |
Wow, well I hope this kicks other peoples asses into gear. Would be a nice way to start the global social revolution that needs to start (waits for the men in black to descend on his house)...
| 1SIKWRX4U2NV | 01-05-2005 04:47 AM |
...wow; just think of the tax break he'd get here in the states with a donation like that! lol
| artkevin | 01-05-2005 09:30 AM |
They talked about this on howard stren this moring and I got so excited that F1 got talked about in America. I was then let down because they thought Schumacher "lived down south" and "drives around in a cricle". I do give Howard credit though becuase he gave him full props for giving to the cause.
| Scoobie Doogie | 01-05-2005 09:35 AM |
Tightwadding? Why would people expect that donations would be significant right off the bat? Isn't it prudent to get an assesment of damage and get an idea of the needs of the people before you increase donations? That said; I am proud that our country and citizens are being so giving. If every one of us gives a little it will be quite significant to the people of South East Asia and it will go a long way towards mending Western and Muslim relations. (I hope)

Man, that makes me feel good. What a cool guy. I just watched the 2004 F1 wrap up on SPEED last night and was already feeling pretty good about him.

| Kcwiro | 01-05-2005 10:33 AM |
I have to agree with evaluating the total damage to find out 'the big picture' first. I do recall us sending aid food and other supplies over there somewhat hrm... immediately didn't we not... just because we didn't pony up the $$$ or the most doesn't mean much if you ask me ... I mean look at the other things they have going on that is sucking up the mils...no bils atm
Cudos for the man that probably just put some of the richer hollywood stars to shame though :D Though I'd hate that kind of thing to become a hollywood pissing contest

I heard it on Howard also...the fact that they thought he was one of the highest paid athletes in the world to drive in a circle bugged me but whatever..they did give him a lot of credit for stepping up. Very gererous. He may not show much emotion in the victory circle but he shows the type of person he really is... Very nice...

I think it SHOULD become a hollywood pissing contest to be honest... Lets face it... many of these actors and hollywood types are grossly overpaid for what they do, and such a pissing contest can only benefit the people affected by this tragedy..

Wealthy people put their money into things they really care about. Actions speak for themselves. Plenty of really wealthy people are contributing. The ones that go unnoticed and unseen are "classy" also. In some ways, even more classy. Being stupid rich is not an enviable position, especially as it relates to all world problems, disasters, bad luck, hardluck, etc, etc. These folks get hit up non-stop from various needy groups and people all day long. Its the classic "lottery winner syndrome".
Schumacher REALLY is a class act.
Bullock is a class act...she threw down for 9/11 in the 7 digit range also.
I guess what gets me is: When the various media takes any charitable contribution news from a "star" and waxes on about and blah,blahs...it really takes away from the real focus, the disaster.

I agree but not the kind of contest that they usually put up ... I mean it almost like that silly Magic Cabin thing that was turned off so fast once I realized it was on...
that sillyness aside it'd be nice to see the hollywood folks to put out the cash but I'm just waiting for all that gossip crap to show up with all the stars goin 'oh its so tragic....' when I find it hard that they might even actually care instead of just trying to improve their Public relations...or maybe I should point more at the media itself since things get scewed by them at times

Kcwiro, Worth shows how much you made and your "franchise" is worth. Technically some banks with levy X amount of dollars on your worth.
... Technically some banks with levy X amount of dollars on your worth.
 Care to clarify?
Kcwiro, of course you can collect on your net worth, any time you want, its real value...most always, the propogation, is a criterion for mantaining wealth and continued growth, that's why noone with wealth ever goes into full divestiture and liquidation. BUt yeah, you could sell off, cash in, etc etc, just about everything (including many forms of life insurance) that contribute to your net worth, and walk around with it in your pocket.

13.6 mil is alot for anyone, even if they are worth over half a billion dollars. Michael gets a tip of the hat.
if organized properly we could get every child 17 and under to donate 50 cents that could help...

Jackie Chan is a cheapo. He donated a few million HONG KONG dollars. it works out to be about 50 thousand US. He sure does talk a lot about charities and saving the children. It's a bunch of garbage. He has a lot of illegitimate children that he doesn't give money to.

He is estimated to make about 80 million a year, including endorsements. He lives in Switzerland and has an understanding with the government about his tax situation. He makes some decent coin.

Yeah when people whine about Schumacher being "the highest paid athlete" but they never consider that he's much more involved than your average NBA player. He doesn't just play the sport he also plays the business.
He's the major reason Ferrari could get backed by megacorps like Marlboro and Vodafone. And he's also one of the major reasons that F1 has become a "throw cash at it to win" race. (Which I don't agree with, even though I agree Schumy is a good driver.)
I read that Schumacher takes home a total of about $106 million a year through all of his business endeavors. (Merchandise, contracts, endorsements, racing, sponsorship.)

ROFL ROFL, I know! I found out about this too a couple years ago! I was like WWWTTFFFF? Jackie is a playboy who has a bunch of illegitimate children?
It's sad but for the most part true, the only thing that can't be decided on is how many children and with how many women.
Damn, disappointing to be reminded of that, I guess Jackie Chan is more like Charlie Chaplin than even he thought. (Cept Charlie Chaplin recognized all of his children.)

He also forces his gf's to have abortions too. Recently, one of his GF's who was an actress refused and kept the baby girl. Jackie never mentions her or gives them money. I find it interesting how he can have such a puritan image in America, of all places.
