Kimi
DC
JPM
Rubens
Ralf
Villeneuve
Da Matta
I still think Barrichello is being a wuss about the HANS device, hence my low placement of him. The McLarens are on pace, and I look for Kimi to do better than DC this time. The rest of the picks are a crap shoot.

Sepang Shoot-Out!

Hey good picks so far! I will always admire Fred's devotion to JPM, even though I'm not brave enough to pick him to win yet... (As a matter of fact, I usually wear my Montoya shirt sometime during a F1 weekend, 'cause I'm a big fan of his.)
Sepang will be a crapshoot due to the tropical heat and rain, so I'll just go w/my usual conservative picks...

Michael
Rubens
Kimi
David
Juan Pablo
Ralfie
Jarno
Fernando
And don't forget the F1P6 "impreza.net" group! For those who have not yet signed up, it is easy and free. We currently have eight of us in the group!

No lie... this is the shirt I purchased last year at the Long Beach GP, and which I traditionally wear at some point during a F1 weekend...

I would love to see Villeneuve in the points. It must be so frustrating for him to have been at the top and then fall so low. Ironic that a company known for the reliability of it's engines can't get it together for F1...
I'm still hoping to see MS win the drivers championship this year. It would be great to see a new record being set.

For the amount he's getting paid JV needs to shut up and drive, he's just making a fool of himself.
There's more to BAR than the engine. Remember, BAR is really Tyrrell with a new name, they haven't exactly been front-runners in a long time, regardless of the powerplant in the back of the car.

Yes, he's coming off as pretty desperate, isn't he? He's certainly not winning himself any supporters with his quotes in the last couple of days.
I know that he has been frustrated for the last few years and has been struggling with pretty lackluster cars, but he has been making a smurfload of money and has not shown himself to be consistently superior to his teammates. So far, Button is putting a good pasting on him - he should take it as motivation and get on with it, or he will find his stock next year in the dumps. Motivated or not, when you make that kind of money, you HAVE to perform.
My SWAG's, belatedly and notwithstanding the Renault front row -

I agree about VIlleneuve, the only thing he has shown this year is that he is threatened by Button.
As for BAR, they actually built their own facility so there is nothing left of the old Tyrrell operation.
However, Honda's name on the livery gets bigger and bigger each year. I wouldn't be surprized to see them by out the team eventually. Especially since Toyota is a self contained operation.
Their results have been weak so far but I think they made a stratgeic error in trying to supply two teamsby speading themselves too thin. Now that they are able to focus their efforts, I think you'll see them start to improve.

Nonetheless, BAR was a brand new team, who did not use anyone from Tyrrell, as far as I recall... not even the receptionist.

Fearless Fast Freddy!!! :D
impreza.net results for Malaysia GP
Fred Z grabs 47 big points, thanks to smart picks which grabbed big points on five out of the eight positions... He picked Rubens dead nuts on for a max 10 pts, then missed the following by only one position, thereby gaining eight points per... Ralfie, Trulli, Heidfeld, Button.
Good job also goes to Lord Bass, who was our only other player to gain 40 points or more. It should be noted that Fred and LB were both the most aggressive in their picks, whereas if you look at the rest of us, we are fairly to very conservative... For instance, I myself am a very conservative putz in my strategy, in that I pick based on the teams performance of the last two races or so, hence the order my order is Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, Renault.

Re: BAR is really Tyrrell?

I dunno, I think I harbor ill-will towards JV because I really WANTED to like him. I mean, he's from NA (Canada if I remember correctly), so there's a plus. He came from CART (argument against the euro-elitist anti-cart attitude), which I liked. Basically, for a while it looked like he was the closest thing to an American driver we would have, and it looked like he was going to be a top contender after winning the title. But since then it's not been a good show; I guess I'd be frustrated too if I came from Williams to BAR. But I'm sorry, a world-class driver does not spout off about how his team-mate is a third-rate driver and than proceed to get BEATEN by that driver on a fairly regular basis. At least if he was killing Button you could say he was genuinely frustrated, even if he was acting like a jerk; but now he just looks like a jerk and a fool, which doesn't seem to be a good recipie for a Formula 1 driver (Insert Eddie Irvine joke here {but seriously, I'd rather see Irve the Swerve in the BAR than JV right now}).

I'll weigh in on Jackie Newtown:
First, I think that there are few on the grid who give you a more exciting ride than Jacques. Makes a lot of mistakes, some of them pure bonehead (Indy 2000), but is always hustling the car.
Next, I actually like the fact that he talks smack to other drivers. The rest of them are too corporate-sanitized imho. You might not like it, but Jacques usually tells you what he's thinking. I can't remember, but I think it was at Canada last year when he physically went after JPM who was talking some smack back to him. Reminded me of when Senna went after Irvine at Suzuka.
Ultimately, however, I think that Jacques has wasted the best years of his career as a highly paid whor* driver with BAR's crappy cars. While the team would be much better if they could spend some of his $14 million salary on technical bits, in his shoes, I'm not giving that $$ up.

To a point I agree with you. Having some character is a good thing. But if you talk smack and can't back it up, you just wind up looking like an idiot. JPM is a good example of someone who has a "colorful" personality, and (for the most part) backs it up with solid driving.

The best reason to like JV is because his old man is a legend. I agree its good to see someone who speaks their mind, but unfortunately it's sound rather petty of late.

Only two people picked Kimi to win, and quite a few people had Trulli in the top eight. Max and Dr. WOT showed prescience with their Jenson Button picks, which would have been right on had he not suffered final-lap misfortune.
I think we all took a bloodbath on this one. Alonso in third? Who knew?

Jacques can talk smack in my book because he is a world champion. He does look a little dumb since he hasn't won anything since he went to BAR. But, I guess I just choose to overlook that cause he's an exciting guy to watch most of the time.
JPM backs his talk with outstanding driving, I agree.

Considering how Da Matta's doing, and how well Andretti did... I'd say JPM's doing pretty damn well.

Apples and oranges buddy. F1 does not equal CART, therefore the equation is not the same. JV is a has been in a series where he was the champion.

I'm semi-suspect of JV's talent. Why? He won his world championship when Williams was THE dominant force. (rothsman days). Heck.. even Damon Hill won one. :D What differentiates him and a truly superb driver is the ability to pull quick times and be reasonably competitive in a non-competitive car. Example: Well.. the greatest of the great.. Mikhail Shoemaker. When Ferrari was reasonably far from being the big *****.. he was keepin it up there and keepin the vastly technically superior Williams teams honest. Same when Mika was the flavor of the year. McLaren for the most part had a vastly better car. Micheal was still right up there with him. At the end of the day, given everybody the same chassis/motor/tire combo, I have no doubt that M. Schu would come out on top. I'd also venture to say, that stick him in a Williams, Mclaren, MAYBE Renault and a reliable Honda, and he'd be in the running for world champ. Well.. it also helps that the performance deficit between the Maranello cars and the rest of the pack is quickly diminishing.

Apples and oranges buddy...
I know... You're right. I'm just teasing ya! LOL!
Because JV is so frank when speaking w/the press, it seems folks either hate him or love him...
You were an easy target.
Plus, many of us are not considering that much of a driver's chances to win races or a championship depends heavily upon the performance of his team. So while JV may or may not be a top notch driver, his talents have been masked for a few seasons while he wrestles the BAR around in mid-pack positions or worse.
It should be noted that when he ends near the faster end of the field in a race, he still drives very well to my eyes... but we don't see that much, do we?
