Solo II - Ft. Myers Tour. Sign in Here! part 1

Corey 01-15-2003 01:03 PM

Solo II - Ft. Myers Tour. Sign in Here!
I signed up earlier this week. #27 CS

I'll be co-driving with SpyderVenom (Rob) in his MR2 Spyder. We have about a 19-20 hour drive.

I see that only 1 WRX owner has signed up so far. I believe it's Dussander. I'll be looking for you guys at the tour.

Are you talking about SCCA or another sanctioning body? I know that the Gulf Coast Autocrossers are non-affiliated but host several events at Ft. Myers, including the SCCA National Tour.
Corey 01-15-2003 01:42 PM

I am talking about the SCCA Solo II National Tour in Ft. Myers on Feb 22-23.

Corey #89 STS
#27 CS at the Tour.
Dussander 01-15-2003 02:14 PM

Yes, I re-signed up today. I FAXed in my entry form on the 6th and they only seem to have received my Pro Solo form. The FAXed entries do not seem to be on the entry list.

I have a 2 bed hotel in Ft. Myers if someone wants to share it. Tom was going to share it be he opted out at the moment because of his thumb.
zoomfactor 01-15-2003 03:55 PM

Do you know when the cut-off date is?

I drove so poorly at the first local event that I may just spectate unless I exhibit significant improvement at the February 16 event one week before the Nat'ls.
Dussander 01-15-2003 04:04 PM

I don't think they have a cut off date, but they have a limit of people who can attend.
trhoppe 01-15-2003 04:21 PM
I don't think they have a cut off date, but they have a limit of people who can attend.
Tuesday before the event, the entry fee also doubles.

Im out myself. It will take 6 weeks for my thumb to heal, so my season has to start a little later. Oh well.

So who's headed to Ft. Myers in a few weeks to open the SCCA season?
I'm pretty sure I'll be making my 3rd appearance there...in STX this time though...

anyone else? Has anyone heard if Eric K. & Eric C. are running anything this year?

Seems like we've had this thread already.
I'll be there in STX.

The plan is to run my underpowered 2.5RS in STX :D Although I might do E-Mod just for fun! Some new toys on the car bump me clean out of STS...but not STX!

I don't think Eric K. is going to autocross much until his STi shows up. Eric C. is going to co-drive an FSP Scirocco.

Do these events normally fill up, or is safe to sign up shortly before the deadline? How is the general hotel situation down there, is there a good chance to find something reasonable without booking too much in advance?

I'm considering making the long drive for my first National Tour event. I got additional vacation days, and I have to use them! :D My new suspension is in the mail (literally), things will get close with getting it installed, settled and aligned in time. Nothing better than a national event to figure out a new setup, I guess?

If I go, I'll do both the Tour and ProSolo, and play tourist for the week in between.

Visit the SCCA site at http://www.scca.org and head to the National Tour or ProSolo links.

Some locations have entry caps listed.

You want to get your forms in as early as possible.

Also, if you wait until one or two weeks before the event, you'll have to pay an additional late fee.

Are any Subaru's going to be competing in Stock class? I haven't raced in almost 5 months and am thinking of going to this event. Need to look into hotels though.

3) SCCA ProSolo Homepage: http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/prosolo/index.html

From these pages are links to:

Just some more information to those not faimial how national events work. Great Reading. :)

For example: Who's registered: http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/scca-tour/frmEntryList.Show?psevent_id=438

So far, only One WRX in DS is. :)

I'll be at the Pro in my DS WRX. Student budget and work scheduling prevents me from racing 2 weekends in a row. What part of Coral Gables are you from? I go to UM...

I know what you mean Chris with work and budget. There is a event in Key west the week before the pro solo that I can't make either. As for the Gables I like right in the middle in between the youth center and the Biltmore. Know the area? What are you going to do for hotel arrangements that weekend?

I am co-driving a Scirocco in FSP this season however, we will not be running the FL events. Eric K might run a limited National event schedule, but if he does, he will be running DSP. That is until his STi arrives, he has been told in June. We are done with STS.

Good luck in STX Will. Hope to see you in Petersburg again this season.

I'm in!
I'm officially in! :D Booked the hotel (Admiral Lehigh) and signed up for both the National Tour and ProSolo. 10 days of Florida!

So if you see somebody with a blue WRX that looks slow on course and generally confused off course, be nice! ;) I'm sure that I will learn a lot. I look forward to meeting some of you guys from other parts of the country, these are my first events outside of MiDiv.

If somebody is looking for a car to co-drive, mine is available. It won't be the best prepared in the class, but it should give a skilled driver a shot at a good result. I could certainly profit a lot from an experienced co-driver who could give me some setup hints (new suspension...) and maybe driving tips.

Well, we're leaving for Florida today. We've got about 2 feet of snow on the ground here so I'm looking forward to some warmer weather.

See you guys there.

i was at the test and tune held at the same course last weekend (i live in ft. myers). there were about 7 wrx's there. i imagine there will be a ton of subies. i just added a bunch o' goodies to my car, getting ready for the one lap of america. the mods will put me in street modified, which is somewhere i don't think i want to be. i may come and hang out though.
trhoppe 02-19-2003 09:34 AM
i just added a bunch o' goodies to my car, getting ready for the one lap of america
Ahh more subies in one lap :)
Im running onelap as well , but with a "STX prepped" car. A little down on power, but up on handling!

-Tom
lukerussell 02-19-2003 10:30 AM

i'm up on power, down on handling, so it should be interesting. especially since i've never been to any of the tracks we're going to. hopefully i'll get it dialed in before the start.
TheWRX 02-19-2003 11:47 AM

The car is mostly packed, I'll be taking off tonight to get a head start, drive most of the way tomorrow, and will hopefully arrive at the event site for the test runs before noon on Friday. I'll see everybody there!

I even got my car aligned yesterday. I have more camber than expected in the left rear, not sure why I get more in the left than in the right. So I hope that the courses will be mostly left turns! ;) And I need to write my letter to the SEB saying that we need camber bolts allowed.
Dussander 02-19-2003 12:15 PM

I goofed with my camber last night. I got a SmartCamber tool in so I had to check all my camber and I found some of it to be pretty screwed up.
I thought I had -1.5 all around. This is what I found:
lf: -.9, rf: -1.8
lr: -1.3, rr: -1.6
I changed it to:
lf: -1.7, rf: -1.7 (and left the rear)
I also found out where exactly -2.5 was for both the front camber plates instead of my swag. This may explain some of my strange pyrometer readings at the last couple of events. :)
TheWRX 02-19-2003 01:52 PM

Dussander, are you going to bring the SmartCamber along? If you do, I would be interested in seeing how it works. And since I just got "official" measurements, that would be a good reference.

I got -1.7 in the right rear, which is about as I expected with a little lowering and no adjustment options. But the left rear is at -2.3. :(
10th Warrior 02-19-2003 02:00 PM

hey hey, way to go Reto! have fun, even if you are going to miss the rally :p good luck! :D
Dussander 02-19-2003 02:41 PM

Yeah, I'll bring it, but I'd like a second opinion on my camber as well. ;)
MattDell 02-19-2003 06:38 PM

Corey, what car are you running in CS? I'm assuming CS means C-Stock.
