Speedware Motorsports harness bar for GC8 part 1

Tangmere 04-26-2002 07:45 PM

Speedware Motorsports harness bar for GC8

I know there is no choice for us autoxers or road racers for a harness bar for our 1st gens, so I thought I'd make a few phone calls.

I talked to Dan at Speedware Motorsports, where they make some quality kit. The harness bar (see the other thread in this forum) they have currently for a WRX is 49" wide. GC8s require around 46" so it won't fit. However, Dan said he will make them for the GC8 but he needs access to one to get the measurements (he's in WA) There is also potential for a group buy, but price is yet to be determined.

So, if you're interested in letting Dan use your car for measurements contact me via email and we'll get the ball rolling. And if you'd like to buy one, let me know here so I can get a head count.

Thanks, Mark

So far the interested parties are:

1. Me
2. Ryan24
3. Subie Gal
4. A4Killer
5. James
6. Sean
7. Bogusbob
8. Hacman
9. Dan Hackett
10. Chin (maybe)

Update!
Prices will be 20% off if we get 10 or more (~$295.29/$319.20 + shipping. Regular price $369/$399). This discount applies to either bar (with or without the fire extinguisher mount).

PLEASE GO !!! Someone.....

I want a GC8 bar.
Tangmere 04-27-2002 10:20 AM

Okay, moving right along. Ryan24 has agreed to be the "guinea pig" for the harness bar over at Speedware. Once Dan figures out what building it entails, the cost and turn around (probably the same as the WRX one). Then it needs to be determined how many need to be sold to get a group buy price (then I'll have this thread moved to the group buy forum).

Thanks, Mark

What about one for a 4-door?
Tangmere 04-27-2002 02:04 PM

James,
(it is James, correct?) The harness bar will work on a four door GC8 too. Look at the other thread in this forum to see how much it'll potentially be in the back seat. Let me know it you want in.

Im up for a good harness bar. The harnessbars.com ones scared me since they had nothing to prevent rotation, but the speedware one looks good. I like the porche roll bar they have pics of even better!
Thug 04-27-2002 05:59 PM

As long as they make a 4 door specific bar I will definitely buy one.

Yeah, close enough...I'll check out the other thread and let you know.

Give me a price and I'll beg the wife for one. ;) MY98 Impreza 2.2 wagon...should have the same measurements as the 2.5 RS sedan.

Somebody set up us the WRX. All your rice are belong to us!
GoodFinder 04-28-2002 02:40 AM

Just got the harness bar setup from Speedware Motorsports (for my WRX) at the house today. Looking forward to giving it a good workout at an upcoming track session! Many thanks to Dan and team for shipping it out right on time as committed.

Just a thought, but I need it for a coupe if the fitment is different for the sedan.
WRSport 04-29-2002 08:24 PM

Coupe here.
Tangmere 04-29-2002 08:26 PM

Gentlemen,
Coupe or sedan, should be the same bar (dimensions). If I hear different, I'll pass it on.

Mark
Impreza Rider 04-29-2002 10:47 PM

Something that might make it different is that the sedan has sliding seatbelt mounts up top, while the coupe doesn't.

I'm interested, but not for a few months.
bogusbob 04-30-2002 12:45 AM

I am interested in one too. I have been searching the web for harness setups too and have only accomplished confusing myself even more. Maybe with a bar setup, the harness choices will be a bit simpler.

Ken (bogusbob)
hacman 04-30-2002 07:07 AM

definitley interested!
Chin 04-30-2002 01:14 PM

Consider me interested. Depending on timing and price, I may want in on the potential group buy.

Any updates?
Tangmere 05-07-2002 11:08 AM

Subie Gal has graciously offered her car as the mule for the bars. I believe the car is there now and hopefully I'll know something progress-wise in the next day or two.

Mark
Thug 05-07-2002 11:26 AM

Thanx. Im anxiously awaiting this as I dont really want to run any more hillclimbs w/o a harness.
Tangmere 05-09-2002 06:48 PM

Update. See 1st post...

Talked to Dan. He's still awaiting Jamie to drop her car off. And since none of you know me, Dan himself will be taking your money. Prices will be for 10 bars or more 20% off, the bars will be (by my math) 295.20/$319.20 + shipping. Regular price is $369/$399). He'll require a 50% deposit and will call each of you when he's ready. So, if you're still interested, please give me your phone numbers and your zip codes so shipping can be figured also.

Thanks, Mark
Thug 05-09-2002 10:36 PM

Count me in.

PM'd you my info.
Thug 05-14-2002 02:56 PM

Any news?
Tangmere 05-14-2002 05:15 PM

I'm trying to get the buy going in the Private sales section with the intent of having "them" move it to the group buy forum. All thye did was lock the thread and told me it was implicitly aginst the rules to do that. I've got an email into Nick to get it rolling in the group buy section. Its been a while and I haven't heard back from him either.

I'm going to get in touch with Dan and see how far we are along with getting them made. As of our last conversation, Subie Gal hadn't dropped her car off at Speedware yet.

Mark
Thug 05-15-2002 10:46 AM

Thanx. I'll see what I can do about getting it into GB classifieds.
Tangmere 05-17-2002 09:29 PM

Ysk,
Any luck on getting the thread moved? Nick still has not seen fit to answer my email.

I haven't gotten back to Speedware this week. My apologies.

Mark
Thug 05-23-2002 10:06 AM

Any luck?
Tangmere 05-23-2002 11:31 AM

Hell, no...

No, no luck yet. I sent Nick yet another email, he still hasn't replied. As soon (if) it gets moved I'll get an update from Speedware. This is no way to run a railroad.....

TimHa 06-05-2002 11:29 AM

I've got one of these already, they built it for me a few years back so it could easily be used for measurements to do a group build. The thing is pretty easy to get in the car, easier to get out. I basically have left mine in during the auto-x season and then take it out in the winter.

Also, I'm seriously thinking of selling mine. I have basically had it with the crowds at auto-cross events and just can't see dealing with hours of driving, usual delays, and hours of sitting all for 3 minutes of drive-time. If interested and you are in the Seattle area let me know.

Tim
Thug 06-05-2002 01:52 PM

Id probably be interested, but I found a full roll cage for about the same price as their harness bar. And since Im going that way eventually, I might as well just get the cage.
Tangmere 06-06-2002 10:54 AM

Still no word...

Tim,
Check your PMs.

Everyone else. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I can't do a group buy until I hear back from the I-club. The people that allegedly run this show have not gotten back to me in over a month and I'm not the only person they've ignored. If and when I ever hear anything from these people, I'll get the group buy going again.

Thanks for your patience, Mark
Thug 06-06-2002 12:26 PM

I'll talk to a mod I know and see if he can help you out.
Corey 09-06-2002 08:26 AM

Did this ever get made for the GC8?

Still interested...

Tangmere 09-06-2002 08:03 PM

Nope, not a damned thing. Hell of a way to run a railroad.

Mark
Ryan24 09-06-2002 09:08 PM

Mark,
Are you still waiting to hear from the i-club?
Has Speedware even gotten a hold of a car to take some measurements for it?
