Still no WRC (overhanging) spoiler for WRX?

Anyone know of a true WRC-style rear spoiler (the overhanging, box-shaped one) that is available or in development? Closest thing so far is the Prodrive style wing on the STi, but ti differs from the WRC piece.

nope there isnt
Conduit 12-23-2001 12:44 PM

Check www.subaru-giken.com and see if that's closer than the Prodrive.
Shik 12-23-2001 04:38 PM

No, it's not :( Even Launsport(WRC replica specialists) doesn't offer one yet.

This truely amazes me that a replica of that spoiler has not been made yet. I just don't know why. It only looks a million times better on the new age WRX then the 22B type spoilers. Just my opinion but the 22B spoilers look so out of place on the new WRX it aint funny.

FWIW, Paul at Primitive mentioned he would have loved to do a replica of the WRC spoiler, but had trouble getting his hands on an original I believe. Wonder what Prodrive charges for one(assuming they would sell one to you)?

Oh well, maybe some day :(

WRC Wing

Actually someone has made one, look through this web page.

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=59129

Vivid Racing is in contact.
WRX Potential 12-23-2001 10:54 PM

all i know is that the wing scooby sport offers is by far the best looking wing i've ever seen for our car... check it out
Shik 12-26-2001 10:03 AM

Thanks Subaruracerx! Hopefully Vivid can find the source and get them.

By far the best looking spoiler out there( IMHO ;) )

Are you saying that _isn't_ a 22B style wing half mounted and half hanging? I dunno, they all look the same to me :p
vividracing 12-26-2001 05:47 PM

Actually it is a styro foam cut out that is painted with crayons.:o

Got the hook up, email us at [email protected]

Sent you an e-mail Dan.

elgorey 12-27-2001 10:04 AM

wait....you think _that_ ^ one doesnt look out of place???
It looks like a duct-taped on racerboy wing that wasnt even made for the car!

(IMO of course)
fastline 12-27-2001 10:19 AM

tell the WRC team that and see what they say
that is most likely the only wing for that car that really works correctly.

they didn't put it there so spectators say wow what a cool looking wing..they put it there because it works and works well as you can see from results

racers don't try to make the car look good the want it to go good.

that's what i'm talking about

Hey if that's the case I'll give you $30 for one :) That's a very generous offer!
bemani 12-27-2001 11:09 AM

I'd love to get it, but someone would probably think this is too offensive for the eye and try to rip it off
elgorey 12-27-2001 11:13 AM

I agree, the SWRT wing is meant to perform, and I am sure that it does, and they dont care (much) how the car looks.

for the extreme levels of competition and driving skill of WRC, that tiny bit of extra downforce may help, but even for the most skilled driving i-clubbers, putting the wing 4" back will make absolutely no difference. Even having a wing at all will not help most people. A wing is 95% cosmetic.

my comment was just that I dont think the SWRT wing fits the wrx any better than the 22b wings.

you got a point

I'm sure the WRC wing provides good downforce, but it obviously isn't the only wing that provides downforce. Have you seen the Cusco or Jun wings, for example? Tell me those don't provide downforce! My favorite is still the STI carbon fiber piece. The one that was on the black scooby of the week wrx forever and a day.
Goombah 12-27-2001 10:03 PM

I agree with most of the guys in that a wing doesn't do much for most of us. Having been a WRC fan though, if and when I get a WRX sedan, it would most surely have the real WRC type wing, for the simple reason that the current WRC Impreza uses it and , probably because of that, I like that one alot better then the others I've seen on the new age WRXs. Hell, I'd even get the hood, again, not because it does much of anything(espesially if you don't have a FMIC) but because it looks cool as hell simply because the most popular bad ass Impreza in the world uses it ;)

Whether or not to use it simply depends on if you like the looks or not. Some do, some don't. I just hope to hell that it's available if and when I get a WRX!!!

Lightning Jack 12-28-2001 01:10 AM

maybe somebody can make a replica with a reasonable pricetag;)
vividracing 12-28-2001 12:48 PM

We have availability now! Email to secure yours. We a minimum of 10 orders. The wings will come from the UK and be priced in the $700 range shipped.
phantasm 12-28-2001 12:53 PM

Will this be a RHD only model?

I guess the sarcasm was missed... :D :p  :alien:
vividracing 12-28-2001 12:55 PM

HUH?

It is a wing, there is no difference!
In2Deep 12-28-2001 04:17 PM

Hu? I just read a thread of someone gauging interest for one of these. I'll post it once I find it again...
SCOTT 12-29-2001 12:52 PM

Hi everyone, i have one of these spoilers but mine is a real one sourced from the rally team. It is full carbon fibre and was quite expensive £1200 considering its secondhand :D

vividracing 12-29-2001 03:40 PM

They will be replicas of course. Every person has a different taste!
mturmel 12-29-2001 04:54 PM

Awesome pics!!

WOW,
thanks for the pics Scott! This is what I'm looking for, did you notice any effects due to more downforce? front wheel feeling "loose" at all at high speed? I noticed you had a front lip, that must help! I'm just worrying about downforce imbalance between front and rear...

Dan, ETA on that wing replica??

Thanks,

Matt
SCOTT 12-29-2001 08:00 PM

lol Avi  you still going on:)

mturmel

i can't say that i've noticed any on-road difference with the spoiler on but there must be more downforce just by the size and angle of it

It feels quite stable at 130mph :D though
mturmel 12-29-2001 08:08 PM

Sounds good...

Ok then,
thanks Scott, that's the kind of testimony I was looking for... Should be good at 240 kph then... ;)

Matt
mturmel 01-02-2002 02:53 PM

Any update?

Bump...

Any word of that WRC replica? Vivid?

Thanks,

Matt
Shik 01-03-2002 06:51 AM

Dan, my friend Adam will be giving you a call concerning the spoiler in the next day or two, hopefully they are obtainable soon.

BTW Scott, awesome car. If it had the roof scoop, lowered a bit, and some big STi mud flaps on it, I think I would have fainted ;) Almost perfect!
mturmel 01-06-2002 12:37 PM

Bump...

Any more info??

Matt
Shik 01-11-2002 03:59 AM

Not sure if anyone was following the Scoobynet thread the picture of the dark blue car was from, but it looks like that also was a true WRC spoiler from Prodrive like Scott's, and according to Prodrive, they will not be for general sale(cost about $2000 anyhow).

Oh well, the search continues :(
vividracing 01-17-2002 09:47 PM

OK, for all that is interested, see the thread in this forum for the info then contact us if interested.

Excellent news. Sucks big time that you need 20 people to go ahead with it though.
vividracing 01-18-2002 12:21 PM

We already have 4 people.
