Studs on Ice 04 - NY

Event - Studs on Ice
Location - Adirondack Mountains
What can I say, my tires (link ) worked great this past weekend. There was almost no sliding, which may not have looked cool, but was pretty damn fast - 4 gear rev limiter on the straights and not too much slowing down in the corners :D. I got the second place in the Menard class, which consisted of AMEC clubs regulars with their prepared racecars and their spec ice racing tires. Only guy that beat me in my class was this guy.

Yeah, I am not really ashamed.
The other guy who beat me, actually he smoked everyone, was driving Audi 90 pro rally car with bolted rally tires, dont have pictures of him, but he is the red car in that video.
Overall I think I have surprised some of the AMEC regulars.
Here are the videos

thats awesome.. i wish i lived near some snow... nah nevermind i like southern cali ...

Out of curiosity, why did they put you in the Spec Menard class if you weren't running Menards?
Good job. Wow, that course is wide. Even when we don't have snowbanks out here, our gates aren't that wide. I'm going to have to make it out to run SL with AMEC sometime.

I said that they are not extreme enough for Bolt-Experemental class, and were closer to menard tires, so they let me run in that class

ooo. A lake, right? That looks extremely fun. Left-foot braking, pendulums, powersliding, having fun just braking. :O

Curious as to where this is. Friend of mine is semi-familiar with the area as he grew up in Clifton Park.
Thanks,

It's 30-45 mins north of Amsterdam, about an hour and a half west and north of Clifton Park, which is where I drove from :)
| Fitz | 02-04-2004 01:22 PM |
Indian lake region? Speculator? Northville? Is there a web address that shows a schedule or cost etc??
Thanks,
Fitz
Thanks,

Just north of Speculator, it's Wells. Actually the lake we raced on feeds Speculator.
It's http://www.icerace.com. They only do the "Studs" event once a year, but they have wheel-to-wheel racing just about every weekend.

You ran great Alex, and it was a pleasure having you run with us. :)

Yes, the year prior, we [A.M.E.C.] learned that we needed to plow the track really wide so we aren't pulling people out of the snowbanks all day.
It was our biggest track of the year at 1.6 miles a lap! Can't wait until next year.

Glad you did, I'll make sure to hit up next year. I passed this year as 2003 was such as mess. Hardly the organizer's fault, a particular Audi TT comes to mind...

Incidently, the very first AWD wins in the wheel to wheel Street Legal [SL] class occurred this past season. It was the red 4WD '89 Nissan Sentra wagon seen above and an ordinary, but well driven white Impreza sedan that got it done. But the SE-R's and NX2000's still rule the roost at this point. Anybody with a WRX care to give it a try next season?

Are you thinking about one of the Street Legal [SL] classes where you don't need a roll bar or anything? We use winter street tires like Blizzaks and all you'd need is a number on the door and a fire extinguisher! You can't race any cheaper or easier than that. ;) Check it out HERE

-mik
That's even better! Any and all safety equiptment is welcomed as long as you didn't strip out the interior and that the engine and driveline are stock. To make sure no one misunderstands, the Street Legal classes are wheel to wheel road race classes on ice for stock street cars. Not to be confused with our "Studs on Ice" solo event described from the beginning of this thread.
However, you can run a car in any state of tune and with any brand of winter tires in our annual "Studs on Ice" solo event coming up early in February. When we finalize the date, I will make a post here announcing it. :)
Cheers,
Mike
