Styling : Japan vs. Euro
Hey guys-
I was just wondering what type of styling do you find most appealing? The main types that I have have noticed are Japan-based (ie. JDM products), European (ie. Prodrive, rally-style), and full-blown customized (ie. show cars). I personally like JDM styled cars because they tend to look more exotic. Euro cars tend to be a little plain for my tastes, but nice nonetheless. Impreza showcars are rare and catch my attention. What do you guys think?
Examples (sorry about the pic stealing):
Euro-based

JDM-based

I totally dislike all European styles.

Coming from euorope I kinda have the Euro style bread into me, you know shave everything, dished rims, twin headlight conversions etc. On the other hand I have a fetish for JDM pieces so I gues I'm a little of both. Uber flashey show cars are not my thing though.
| Hittokiri Battousai | 12-12-2001 12:07 PM |
I'd want to take what I like from either style and make my own style.
| Shoelace | 12-12-2001 12:18 PM |
My own personal tastes lean towards the japanese look. I love how raw and rugged the cars end up looking.
| Siper2 | 12-12-2001 12:24 PM |
I like the blue WRX on top, with the gold wheels (hands-down the best WRX sedan I've seen yet, and I've said that before :D ), and I also like the BRP 2.5RS with the black hood and black clearcoated OEM wheels.
The others are ugly. Sorry.
For me it depends on the car. Euro looks better on some, JDM looks better on others. Either within the same brand, or between brands... it's all in how it's done.

I just want to laugh when I see if this changes anyones opinions.
The silver car is Imprezer's.
Trust me, I saw this car at SEMA. It's his. The Wing, the Carbon Fiber Pieces, the Zero Sports Body Kit, The Roll Cage, the Seats, the Wheels....can't see the Brembo's from here though.

I thought Imprezer had Morrettes......?
| adamsrs | 12-12-2001 01:20 PM |
HEy that's my car! The blue one! Cool I am glad that I epitomize JDM! That is my goal! Anyways yes that is Imprezer's silver WRX and he does not have Morrette's he had JDM HIDs. I like JDM styling because of the raw sharp edges that breath power and look like they are going to kill you even before you touch the throttle! Don't get me wrong I love a nice smooth VW or Audi S4 but Euro styling on a Japanese car just doesnt mesh, the smooth lines do the car no justice! JDM ALL THE WAY BABY!

I think I tend to like the Euro styling mods more. Being a fan of Porsche, BMW and Audi helps, but I think the main reason is that I've seen WAY TOO MANY Civics with body pieces with names like "Shark" or "Terminator". Just too jagged and busy for me.
Give me smooth sporty lines and I'm set. (See Prova/Eifel)
Although all of the images above are wicked!
Peace,
oqui

adamsrs,
So that's your blue Rex, eh? Veeeeery nice. :D :D Absolutely clean, my friend. Well done. :)
As for Imprezer's car, okay JDM HIDs, I knew it was one of the two. His car just looks different from the last pic I saw, so...
I don't know what you'd qualify what I want to do to my car, as.
I want the V5 under-lip spoiler, and the rear bumper spats, both in unpainted black, at least to start. Dunno if I'll paint or not. I'll probably keep the '00 sedan wing, I'm undecided. For wheels I'm either going to try and find an older set of Raceline RL-7 wheels in 16" or go with the Euro. WRX 17" ones. Subaru 4-pot brakes with MRT rotors. I think that's it, for appearance. :)

| dwx | 12-12-2001 03:50 PM |
The first blue wrx hands down looks better than the rest. It's just very very clean looking. I still don't really like morette lights on them but it just kind of flows on that one to make the whole package look good. I always hated the big wings like that until I saw the one on that car, maybe it's the angle or something :D.
| Siper2 | 12-12-2001 04:38 PM |
Oop, sorry adamsrs, I misunderstood I guess. So yours is the other one I like, right? The black hood (with pins) and clearcoated wheels?
As for that first WRX, I'm not sure if those headlights are painted Morettes, or if they're Subaru JDM HIDs.

Definitely morettes painted. The JDM projectors have a cover and the grill portion gives them away as morettes.
| quentinberg007 | 12-12-2001 07:22 PM |
euro definately... no offense, but that silver rex is over the top... i really dislike it when the carbon fibre isnt' painted.... it just looks trashy... and i really really really hate GT wings on cars other than total race version touring cars....

P.S. i would still take all those cars over mine:D

Its nice to see people voice their opinions (even if it is the club president's car). I, on the other hand, love both Imprezer's and Adamsrs' rides.

euro. That silver bumper is hideous. It looks like a riced out honda. The licence plate is stuck to some chicken wire while you can still see where its suposed to mount to on the bumper! geeeeze. The rest of the car (stock parts + wheels + carbon fiber) look so good. Those bumpers suck. Front and back.

Love that first blue WRX, all it need's is Imprezer's interior, down to the roll cage, and that would be the sweetest WRX of all. Euro + JDM = The Best of Both Worlds. JMHO :D

Without all the graphics. This is the best. :) Perfect size rims. Dope intercooler. Tasteful bumpers. It could use the carbon fiber stuff but the back needs to keep the stock lettering. JDM - EURO it's all good.
I like aspects of both styles. I like the naked CF look on hoods.
I don't care for body kits, GT wings (unless it's on real touring cars like quentinberg007) and unnecessarily LARGE rims.
Look @ the Spoon Sports Civics/Integras and the Tein WRX wagon. Those are nice cars. Clean styling, performance oriented upgrades, not flashy and rycey.

Yes...I would consider the US style a combination of customizing and the vast use of decals on the car. Taking pieces from the Euro and JDM styles to make their own (ala the Sparco WRX). Thanks for bringing that into the discussion.

Imprezer's car minus that HUGE GT wing get's my vote. Take the wing off of the blue WRX, paint it silver and put it on Alex's car. I'm not a fan of Morette's or any dual headlight conversion. I love the Starform R2s on Alex's car, even though they are just loaners. I can't say that I am a fan of Japanese styling, though. Most of the Japanese bodykits are way too crazy for me (C-WEST, Veilside, et al.). Add STi HIDs to the blue WRX instead of those Morettes and it is in a dead heat with Imprezer's, IMO.

So if I did the JDM STi lights, would my car be a EURO-JDM style?
Anybody can photoshop that for me please?

I love the smooth Euro look....but I was amazed when I saw the Mazda 6. It has those smooth European lines, and yet the raw, jagged lines of a japanese car. Just my little bit of proof that a car can be Japanese and European at the same time...

u put bodykits on Jap cars it look good
Euro comes with phat body, no need to change it already look good.
Jap cars comes with skinny body and need some dressed up hehe
seems like everybody are going with clear tail lights
i think it's lame now becuz clear tail lights won't be a cool thing no more.. lol even 60yrd lady like it ughh LOL
all of those money ford spent on mazda racing still they barely win any titles
they do make a better looking cars now but still it's a mazda=ford=mazda=ford
