Um...why the copy/paste there Jamie?
Anyway, i was wondering, how could your friends in the UK tape it and send it to you?
UK uses PAL TV format, and the US uses NTSC. Two COMPLETELY different signal formats, and you cant play a VHS of one on the other.
Anyway, just curious.

Ok, I won't rag on you about how easy Burns cries. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img] But I think even if the snowbank did hold, his car would of been toast since he went almost straight into it. It looks like a Mitsu season so far... 4 points for us... c'mon, gogogo!!!
Note for Solburg: Stop totallying the blue car! [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
BTW: The show on Speedvision right before the WRC show looked good! Some sort of reader submitted video footage put together into a show. Someone please post when it'll be re-aired if they know!

You mean Richard Burns, the "Jeff Gordon" of rallying? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
If I was a spectator I'd make him get out and push while my buds and I took turns rocking the car back and forth! LOL C

Nothing on this earth compares with WRC!! It is the greatest. The Sweedish rally is my fav, as is the season it is held in, winter also my fav time of year.
I like the shot of Colin M when his car was not shifting out of sixth. I think he said "fun" [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] or something like that[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img]

That coverage was staggering...awe inspiring.
They've really been using the hour-long coverage well. It's about the same time to set things up as was taken during the half-hour shows. All the rest is racing. Best of all, it's a lot of racing. I tape the shows w/o commercials, and it's about 45 minutes of action.
The overhead shots of the cars drifing are great, and how about McRae's face as he was setting fast time after fast time? Unreal. I lost a bit of respect for Burns, I must admit. My wife, who doesn't even know rallying, wondered why he didn't get out and help.
Sainz's speed on the snow surprised me, too. Great, great stuff. I intend to email Speedvision about how awesome it is, and you should tell everyone else you know to send them a note, too.
Tell ya what, though. I'd hate to be Duke Video, trying to sell a 90-minute season recap. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Sorry Subie Gal, but I maintain my stance that Burns is an A-hole. And he proved it again last night. If I was a spectator I would have told him to screw off and make him push how own sorry ass out. But I know you have a crush on him. So I wont bad mouth him too much. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]

This may be a little off topic, but are the Peugeots automatic? I never saw the driver move his hand to shift. Unless it's a small paddle on the left of the steering wheel...
Also, how many WR Championships have the Mitsus won? Is it more than Subaru?

I feel dorry for McRae, he is having no luck with the Ford. His face looked like it was set in concrete.

Think they can get Colin back to Subaru so that we can actually have something to cheer about while watching these re-caps? He doesn't seem to be too pleased at Ford, even if the car is fast (when it's working)...

Amazing how Colin had to drive without the semi-auto tranny when it died out.
A question: are sponsors really allowed to support more than one team? I watched yesterday as they were saying that Pirelli is now supporting the Ford team, and Colin was with glea driving on their tires in the snow.

hey bryce are you not aware that they make vcr's that do conversions?? hmmm... look who knows so much [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img]
anyway... Solberg did NOT look comfy as he was trying to go slow... he's pretty much under orders to quit wrecking cars or he'll lose seat time... so he's trying to take it down a notch... thing is... it almost caused him to wreck out!
colin... never ever gets out of the car... that's the first time i've ever seen him get out... usually the driver stays in to control the angle of the wheel when backing back onto the road...
still... good stuff! great footage!!!
happy for Rovanpera... he's been deserving of a win for a long, long time!!!!

I don't know why everyone's on Burns' case, it seemed like he was trying to keep the wheels spinning to help the people trying to get him out. They also didn't show the whole twelve minutes that he was stuck, I'm sure he was out there doing all he could. He did keep setting fastest times throughout the event, and I think it'll work out in the end. Have Faith.

I liked the end interview with solberg where he was like "Well I was just trying to keep it on the road, if I wreck again then I'm off Subaru"
OR something similar. Was kinda funny.
And those were great shots of McRae POUNDING on the shifter trying to get it unstuck.
And burns needs to work on anger-management and being nice when the camera is on him.
Sucked for Tommy, you could see he was really sad.
I think even with the language barriers the drivers manage to communicate extremely well.

Keep in mind you are talking to a profesional audio video technician that has access to equipment you could only dream of.
I know there are VCR's that play both formats. But there are only a few models i can think of that have signal converters built in that will convert one format to the other...and lets just say you could buy many a vinyl decal for your car with them. How does the tone of $9,000 sound? Yes, 9g's for a PAL/NTSC VCR with a signal converter. And thats the cheap model from Samsung, that has poor conversion quality. Anyway...sorry Jamie, I just find it kind of...er...interesting, if you got one..cool beans...i have some dubbing to do . [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
The Pugeots have an ingenious shifter system. there are two wheels on teh steering wheel. One in front, one in rear. the rear ring is shift-up, the smaller front rign is shift-down. And because they are circular shift padles, reguardless of te angle of the wheel, you can shift. Preaty 31337, eh?
I think Burns, MIGHT have gotten out of the car, as he was putting his harness back on as he drove off. But i didnt see any snow on his driving suit or helmet that would indicate that he was out there getting into the pushing. Either way he does need some anger management.
Hehe, fortunatly for McRae he has anger management in the form of a Ford Focus. If you listen closly somtimes McRae calls it the "Ford Fucus", and somtimes i wonder if its not his accent saying that. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img]

just for everyone's reference, PAL to NTSC conversions cost about $15-$25 per tape (quality varies, but for rallying, who cares)...you don't need the special VCR unless you want to start a business or something.
here's an example:
http://www.conversionvideo.com/orderprice.htm
I felt sorry for Makinnen. I don't think I've ever seen him PO'd. Colin McRae is good at being the comic relief for the whole event.

Excellent rally. I have to admit, that after seeing the in-car of Richard, and after reading an article in the latest edition of Rallycourse, he is kinda falling out of favor with me.
I feel bad for Colin, my original favorite when I started watching several years ago. I would be willing to bet he would have another WRC title or 2 under his belt had he not joined the Ford squad. Oh well, what are you gonna do?
Solberg always seems so happy-go-lucky. Remember last year at one of the rallies when he threw away the Focus and it did a triple-lutz into a stand of trees? He just got out and smiled, and said these things happen.
What I can't understand is why hasn't Thomas Radstrom scored a full ride yet? He has the talent! Why would you not think about hiring him full time. I guarantee he would perform better than Freddy Loix, or Marko Martin.
Anyway, it was a grweat rally. I actually felt sorry for Tommi M. even thought I used to think of him as the anti-christ.

Radstrom can only win in the snow it seems. Take a look at his career. You'll notice lots of teams bring him in as their #2 driver for Sweden. Somewhat of the equivalent of Delecour on tarmac.
| Buck-O | 04-24-2001 03:41 PM |
Mike, i defenitly agree with you about Thomas.
He is a VERY talented driver. And he always does well itn eh rallies he enters. It kind of baffles me how a car beater like MArko Martin can get a full ride, yet Thomas always gets the privatier helping hand rides, and never a works drive.
If nothing else a ride with Skoda, or Hyundai.ora full time ride with a team like Griffone (sp?) or another big "private" team like that.
And it would really suck if a bunch of these kids out in the new super 1600 cars got a chance at full on works drives, and he still has to struggle, looking high and low for someone to ahnd him some keys.
