| THEW0RX | 03-06-2006 12:42 AM |
That is down right SICK! How many greenbacks did that cost you?
| killa996 | 03-06-2006 12:44 AM |
800 without the computer so ill say about $1000 with everything but its worth every penny
| THEW0RX | 03-06-2006 12:57 AM |
and you did all of this yourself?
| killa996 | 03-06-2006 01:02 AM |
yea i installed it myself. still still trying to figure where i should put the motherboard and power supply

I just got mine installed the other day, i have been running Road Runner for a front end and its a great app. I posted this same reply on mp3car.com The whole carputer thing is easier then some think, its just a matter of getting the right equipment (ie:low wattage setup, good smart psu) and your good to go, i got my setup going for around $600 granted i got some great deals buying used equip but non the less.
Amd mobile xp +35w
Biostar mobo with onboard video
180 gig hard drive
512 mb ddr ram
Slim dvd rom
IGuidance with Rikaline GPS mouse
M2 ATX
7" Lill screen
What kind of case are you using for your setup? I used a nice slim case i gor for a good price if you are interested i can post a link. I was able to take apart the case that the power supply came with and put my M2 in there it looks like it came that way from the factory i can post pics if you want.

Nice another Suby carpc install and a fellow NYer. You should really look into frodoplayer or Roadrunner as a front end application. So much easier for everyday use.

yo aspit post a pic of your case plz
| aspitfire | 03-06-2006 01:13 AM |
take it out of your cig lighter, cut the power cable and run it from your DSX psu you should have enough power left. or if you dont want to do that Use your liliput Egg or power filter and run that to a 12 line in your car that should clear it up.. also check your refresh rate on your screen what resoultion are you running?
| killa996 | 03-06-2006 01:15 AM |
im running 800x600.
i have the egg connected its spliced into the back of my cig lighter. can i connect it to my 12 on my radio or it wouldnt make a diff? what kind of filter would i need?

That could possibly be your problem connecting it to the cigarette lighter isnt the cleanest/stablest power source. You should hook it up to your pc's power supply. Also is there any other electronic devices near the screen ie cell phones, ipods, etc. Sometimes if the LCD is too close to another powered device you can get video noise. But I'd try testing it on the PC's power supply first. Hopefully your intelligent power supply is a regulated unit.

when i revv my car i notice the interference more then when my car is at idle. i think its my cig 12 output im going to try to wire it from the power supply tomorrow . hopefully that will solve the problem.

I've got my lilliput hooked up to the cig lighter too and I get those lines. I've been meaning to splice it into a better power source, but I've been lazy. :p But I'm not really spending my time stareing at the screen, so it hasnt' been a priority.

Have you guys tried messing with the OpenECU project? It seems you could get data logging and ECU tuning to work with your carputer if you got a spare usb port back there.
I was going to try it out with my empeg, but I don't think it's ARM processor can handle it.

Here is a couple low res shots of my M2 PSU in the PSU box that came with my case, this thing works perfect, when put back in the case its an ideal fit.

I would think most slim style psu would fit in this case, again all i did was drill a hole, put a stand off in it and mounted it. the bottom of the box is alreadly lined with no conductive plastic.

Nice :)
I have for a long time considered making a carputer, mostly because of aftermarket ECU control. I'm just a little consirned about heat as I plan to use a mini itx board and put it behind the screen. I am also consirned about harddrive issues when driving hard on poor tarmac. On bumpy dirt roards or when out playing petter solberg I can always turn the carputer off..

Use a notebook hard drive as they are more suited for bumps and jarring. The VoomPC cases come with small rubber spacers to mount the hard drive. You can use that idea to mount your drive and provide some vibration dampening.

I've been using a notebook harddrive and I've hit some pretty hard bumps, but everything is intact and havn't had any problems so far. I also have Tein SS, so the ride is more stiff and bumpy than stock. No problems
