The end of the Blue and yellow livery??
Subaru may be making a deal with Marlboro. Check it out here: http://www.worldrallynews.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1004447388,99548,

Well, even if they do it wont last long. Doesnt all tobacco sponsorship in the FIA end in 2004 or so?
| Skeandhu | 10-30-2001 09:04 AM |
The end of an era? :(
Can't imagine Subaru without the Blue and Yellow... It's tradition!!
Can anyone honestly picture a SWRT car in Mitsubishi (Malboro) red??? Gross.

Actually I can picture it in Red... there is a special edition STi on GT3 that you win which comes in red (brillian MY98 red). Looks nice, but put those EVO black/silver stripes on it and it is just ugly and wrong...
I find it hard to even picture a SWRT Impreza with out blue and yellow. White car with red accents I can see or vice versa... but no strips..
Hmmm.

Too many changes...
I just found out myself and it sure would be strange. Tradition of the blue and yellow is known around the world... WRC Blue... Jamie's got it right though... collectors items heaven!
Kinda depressing though. First we lost Richard Burns (actually liked the guy. Don't get me wrong though... stoked to have Tommi) and then losing Markko Martin to Ford (with a possible Freddi Loix?)... and now a collor change??? What's this world coming to?
Omahasubaru: which race did you have to complete to get that subaru?
World Rally Blue Berns...

Yes, British American Tobacco Co.

I just hate the fact that my favorite team is sponsored by a rotten, evil tobacco company.

NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO
This is definately not cool.... what about Foster's beer???? that blue is PERFECT for the car!!! if they change it... how will i get my neat drivers jacket??????
| wistful | 10-30-2001 12:23 PM |
i dunno.. i'm not very well "learned" but I remember reading somewhere that the rally team has turned down very lucrative sponsorhips before, because they didn't want to change the blue/yellow livery. True, it WAS associated with 555, but now its just the Subaru color. The American rally team is blue and yellow. Subaru and blue/yellow are now synonymous. I think a color change would be devastating. just like using non-gold rims. Although I wouldn't mind a PINK rally car. that would be sooo phat.. pink/white.

Pou, nice job. I personally don't think it looks all that bad. Would be a shame to see the end of Rally Blue though.

very nice job, but i'm hoping it doesn't happen.
I fear change!

I think it did, also I know that McRae's Helmet in 1995 said "Smoking Kills" right on the visor
The British Health Ministry doesn't mess around with their Warning Labels on Tobacco advertising.

what are you talking about. its not a civic si  that would be rally blue :)
i'd miss the blue and yellow, but if taking on a big money sponser will help put subaru back on top, then they can paint the car magenta with periwinkle pokadots and orange race strips for all i care.

I think that car in any color would look bad ass, but yes, blue is fabled
| wrx182 | 10-30-2001 06:26 PM |
Just wouldn't seem like Subaru without the blue and yellow:rolleyes: .....And they'll have to come up with a new name for that blue if they decide to offer it for production
| Shik | 10-30-2001 07:24 PM |
Well, maybe Marlboro will change it's color to blue and gold  (I know, I'm really reaching here).
But if it is true , well so be it. Subaru, probably one of the smallest automotive companies in the world, have been footing the WRC bill pretty much themselves for the last three years. That is an absolutely astronomical amount of money folks, and I'm surprised they did it on their own this long. Markko Martin's campaign was cut short due to not having enough money to run his car on all the events. Having a major sponsor has got to be a very big weight off of Subaru's shoulders, and any chance of making the team better, is a chance worth taking, even if the famous blue and gold is gone.
Tommi is here, Petter is here, some new management is here, the New Age WRC car is here, and now Marlboro may be here.........maybe it's time for Subaru to start a Chapter 2 in their WRC history book.
Show me where to by a Marlboro SWRT jacket. I'd be proud to wear it!!!

Marlboro linked with Subaru for 2002
October 30, 2001
Senior management in Japan is rumoured to have cleared the way to a deal between Marlboro and Subaru by dropping its insistence on Subaru's customary blue and yellow colour scheme.
Subaru's World Rally Championship team hasn't had a sponsor since British American Tobacco turned its attentions to Formula 1 and company insistence on specific colours deterred most alternative backers. If there has been a change of heart, it could signal a realisation within Subaru that it will have to increase budgets if it is to keep pace with rivals such as Ford and Peugeot.
Mitsubishi is still hoping to keep Marlboro backing for a fourth consecutive season, but Ford is also reckoned to be a possible alternative for the US tobacco brand. If Marlboro does strike a deal with Subaru, it is possible that Belgian driver Freddy Loix could drive an Impreza. He does not form part of Mitsubishi's 2002 plans.

The blue is great, but I'll accept red and white any day if it means Subaru gets the budget they need to compete. Besides, the photoshopped image actually looks quite good.

They should court soveriegn sponsorship from Sweden, then the blue/yellow would fit right in. And i think we all know those scandinavians probably do more snow rallying themselves than they actually spend watching it... Petition anyone?
| 10th Warrior | 11-01-2001 01:58 PM |
but then we'd have to get Juha back :) although i suppose Makinen counts ;)
| wrx182 | 11-01-2001 02:53 PM |
maybe the marlboro should use the marlboro milds instead of reds.....then it would be blue / white
| nqwan | 11-01-2001 04:45 PM |
well if subaru can win 3 consecutive championships again with the red scheme, i'm all for it :D

Juha and Tommi are Finns, not Swedes. Finland's national colors are blue and white. Petter Solberg is Norwegian; Norway's national colors are red and blue - hmm, maybe a compromise?

i knew tommi was, but i thought juha was a swede. oh, it doesn't matter, one scandinavians the same as the next. btw, i like gross over-generalizations.
