Tire Shaving request part 1

KC 09-02-2003 12:09 PM

Tire Shaving request
Anyone know of anyplace that will take a new street tire and shave them if I have them shipped, and then ship them to Topeka.

1) 17" tires
2) The places I called I need to buy from them in order to have them shaved.
3) I will have them shipped to to this place sans rim (tire only)
4) They will then need to have them shipped by Tues 9th to Topeka since I leave tomorrow.

Any help from teh masses?

The price I got on them cannot be matched by anyone. So any help would be greatly appreciated. A phone number would suffice. One of the places is Radial Tire in Md... they gave me a run around when I talked to them, so they're not an option. They asked 'why this tire instead of another tire'. Because I said so... and they started going into "But this", and "but that". Sorry, I don't want to be sold tires. I just want them shaved. Thanks anyhoo.

Please do not share any info that I provide (details) with Tom Hoppe. :p

p.s. You staying with Falkens, or are you gonna try to shoehorn something bigger under the fenders?
trhoppe 09-02-2003 01:29 PM

You suck with your illegal tires
I know luke at tire rack will hook you up though, call him.

I got my used BFGs down to 4/32 here in town. They are prime and ready to go

KC is a bastard

1) Everyone will see at nationals. They are fully legal tires, in production, available and sold here in the US before April 2003 in more than 6 sizes. Size is 17" (that's all you're getting).

2) I talked to Luke. They did it ONCE, and it didn't work out that well, so they'll never do it again. The system they have isn't set up to handle it.

3) I'm a bastard. Yup.

Thanks for the help. Making calls now.

Midatlantic: Nope. No idea who would. Calling #2.

I would be really surprised if you found some other tire that was made in > 6 sizes, no one had, and that works better then the MX, Azenis, or KD.

-Tom <- notes he isn't sharing any more secrets with KC
Patrick L 09-02-2003 01:39 PM

KC, you might talk to the Eric Linhoff (Knuckledragger). He had some done in Kansas City. You can probably get with him on the ST list. I'll PM you his e-mail address.

Bastard! Just for that, I'm sharing my ultra-secret (and legal) power adding mod with Tom!
KC 09-02-2003 01:55 PM

Ohh boy I'm having fun!!! :D

Could I be bluffing?? Could all this be a ruse for me to make you guys think there might be a better tire?

We'll know in just over a week. Muuuahahahaha
Patrick L 09-02-2003 02:14 PM

I got a light weight RS. ;)
solo-x 09-02-2003 02:38 PM

1) mount tires on wheels and put on your car
2) put my car on your trailer
3) using random amounts of toe-out on your car i drive it (in air-conditioned, cushy, quiet comfort) to topeka. drifting on off/on ramps is optional.

You sneaky bastard. What are you up to?

Actually you just reminded me that I need to put on a fresh coat of Formula V. Gotta love the street tire wars

Joel

P.S. I expect a full review of Laguna Seca next week.
KC 09-02-2003 02:44 PM

Well it doesn't look like it's going to happen in time. Cannot locate anywhere to get them shaved before Topeka.

So that gives me the winter. (Or locally in October anyways).

I'll fill those of you in next week on these findings at nationals. (Those of you in the 'inner' circle. Tom... I still have not received your dues)

My guess is the Goodyear Eagle in 245/35/17. You are crazy if you try that though...
Corey 09-02-2003 02:55 PM

Goodyear GS-D3. Bingo! Gotta be it.

I am going to spill the beans...

Keith is using 16" RE92s stretched over 17x8 wheels, and treated with cat pee to make them sticky.

[Cartman]You bastard![/Cartman]
AWMIII 09-02-2003 03:06 PM

Actually he found out that thos Pepboys $18.95/corner tires treated with pinetar stick better than hoosiers. The only problem is that you have to use hubcaps and curb feelers to get the full effect.
AWMIII 09-02-2003 03:07 PM

PS good thing I am not going to Topeka. I roasted my clutch at our 2 day event last weekend.
trhoppe 09-02-2003 03:20 PM

I think kc is bluffing and he's just trying to get his new azenis shaved

Sorry that you couldn't find anyone to shave them, I'm still surprised that Luke didn't hook you up. Hell he found a place for me to change a damn tranny on the spot, getting a set of tires shaved doesn't seem any more of a favor then that :)

I don't know, Luke seems a bit touchy about the topic of Azenis. He still hasn't convinced most of us that we should be driving MX's instead of Azenis.;)
(and of course, MOST of us are too cheap to poney up for BFG's! :p )
Corey 09-02-2003 03:35 PM

I'll be taking MX's and Azenis out to the practice on Saturday and Sunday. I'll be switching them between runs to get a back-back comparo on concrete.

AWMIII 09-02-2003 04:07 PM

Corey be sure to get some cat pee. I am sure that Jeremy can help you out with that.
zosima 09-02-2003 08:19 PM

The shaving is a ruse... KC has some slicks he wants someone to cut a DOT-depth groove into... he has already chalked "treadware 140" on the side
Storm 09-02-2003 11:53 PM

I'd get on the horn with the guys out at Heartland park. I'm certain that they groove tires, I wonder if they can just shave them too? They're like the next drive down too. If there isn't anyone ONSITE who can do it, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm...just a guess here.....but MAYBE...A008's..from yesteryear...and no they not R compounds....back in the late 90's and early 2000-1...these were the tires...to have....shave them down to Battle depth and they were GLUE...

or maybe you got a "HANKOOK " sponsor... :alien:

KC,

Met some guy in a dark alley (think he said his name was Tom...), who tipped me off to the best street-legal autox tires this side of race slicks. They're so sticky, that no shaving (or cat pee) is required or recommended.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Integrity

They're available in 235-17 (perfect for your wagon!)

Also note the outstanding 29" diameter, which will give you plenty of extra speed in 2nd gear (required, due to the stupendous traction of these babies!)

This fellow said he REALLY admired your driving, and wanted to give you a leg up on the competition, so don't tell anyone else! ;)

Glad I could help!

And to think I will have some nice warn in BFGs on SSRs just sitting idealy in my garage during Nationals.
AUTOwrXER 09-03-2003 02:17 PM

Will "Hoosier Tom" of Mid-Atlantic not hook you up? I talked to him in Toledo, and he said he wasn't going to get into the street tire market, but I would still think he could shave/mount tires for you.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how to fit those 245 BFG's under the fenders of a Wagon & still remain STX-legal. Ahh, a project for this Winter....

Another possibility from the Evolution list...

You might give John Schultz a call:

Topeka, KS

Tell him Jeffrey Jenkins and a guy he doesn't know (yet) sent you.... :-)

P.S. Is anyone planning on doing the Evolution course analysis seminar?

Cool. I'll see you there. We can also sign up for the Evo contingency while we are there. Jean just announced it, and the details are still sketchy. I think it's $20 to enter and then there are payouts based on PAX results for those participating. We'll find out more there.
