Want your STI seats clean?

In a quest to see what works best on the STI seats I have tried Blue Coral and Tuff Stuff. Both work great but it still don't bring up the mashed in dirt that's in the perforation of the Suede or whatever the blue material is. So today I see DuPont Teflon Carpet/Upholstery cleaner, it's almost $5 a spray bottle and well it's made by DuPont so you cant go wrong! I came home vacuumed the seats and went at it. The directions say to soak liberally and by god I did, and since this is a pump spray with liquid instead of a spray foam the soapy liquid gets down into the perforation holes instead of the other cleaners that are a spray foam that just sits on top of the fabric and over sprays everywhere when you spray it. I let the cleaner sit for about 10 mins, more than the 2-3 that's recommended. Next I took a white microfiber towel (so I can see the dirt on the towel) and rubbed from front to back going only in one direction. The more I wiped the blacker the white towel got! After the initial wiping I took a second clean microfiber towel and blotted up anything soap that's left. Looking at the seats now I cannot believe how clean they are, they look brand new! The cleaner lifted the dirt that was embedded into the perforations and well I am just amazed. Also with the Teflon it is supposed to prevent stains and keep cleaning easier. I would recommend this to anyone with STI seats that need some TLC (tender loving cleaning). Oh and it smells good too!
pics of before and after?
I never even thought about this... Just imagine before the bottom of the drivers seat being a dingy brownish blue color. Now imagine new STI seats... there yah go :D
Did you take the seat covers off?
No that's not necessary at all... I doubt anyone would want to take the covers off of the seats just to clean them. Plus it would be easier anyway to leave them on the seat.
I need to go outside and vacuum them since they are dry too!

This stuff looks amazing, I just can't find it around here. Everybody seems to sell the other Du Pont cleaning products, but not this one. :( Thanks for the thread anyways. :)
| mikecoscia | 07-25-2006 11:05 PM |
I just use those sticky rollers you use to get lint off your clothes. Works great unless your seats are really bad.
| STi-JDM | 07-26-2006 12:10 AM |
w00t... going to try this soon :D thanks dude..

When I first saw the title, I thought you made your seats light blue with bleach... LoL. Awesome job :)
| AWD>FWD | 07-26-2006 02:41 AM |
Hmm...I saw this stuff at the store and was skeptical, but now I will have to try it to get out a pesky stain in the backseat of the WRX...damn rude passengers and their food that I tell them not to eat...

I don't know how well the cleaner works, but the Teflon bit is just a marketing gimmick.

| epaplia | 08-09-2006 07:04 PM |

awesome. i have tried their tire shine and it works great, the water beads up on the tires like they have rain-x on em and it lasts forever. if their fabric cleaner stuff is anything like the tire stuff, im sold.

I finally found this stuff at Meijer, after looking at Walmart, Advance Auto, Ace Hardware, and Target. Only $3.99/bottle. I'm going to try it out tonight or tomorrow... After 2+ years, my seats could use a good cleaning.
| WR^2X | 08-12-2006 06:46 PM |
Holy crap!!
The brownish-white "WRX" and cherry blossom brown "STi" on my floormats are white and cherry blossom red again! I guess my seats really weren't that dirty though. They look better, but not a huge improvement.

I use a pressure washer and skip any solvents on my floor mats and they look like the day I bought them. You would be SHOCKED at how much dirt is down in the pile of your floormats.
As for the STI seats (I have a set in my 03 wagon) I use Tuff stuff for light cleaning...but I do it so often that it never gets bad.
