Watch your lip

I've got a stock lip but i'm dropped. I've got some lovely scratches on the corners left and right esp after some of the snow falls we had.
I've already touched it up... i'll just coat it for now than in the spring go to my friends shop and fix it up... however in spring i'm looking for a new lip anyway.
just wondering how many have their fair share of scratches and what do you all do
Its just under the lip cant see it unless underneath.
I noticed this after i put the skidplate on, than my rally armor mudflaps, CF sidemarkers, and exhaust guard (she looks niiiiiiceeee)

It's normal to get the scratches. I stopped touching up the bottom after getting tired of doing it so often.

scratches are expected.. if it's underneath, just leave it since u can't see it..
i will repaint mine in a year or 2 if it gets really bad.. (had it for 3 years now)..

Scratches? I've got gouges! I also stopped touching mine up. I think I'm going to mask off the lower portion and try some color matched spray in a can. I don't care if it doesn't look perfect.. the lip is so trashed to begin with NOTHING could make it look worse.
Ps. I'm on MRT lowering springs which aren't too low.. it seems driveway aprons in the northeast are suck ass steep!

Yeah, I'm on Prodrive springs and have the Prodrive Lip; both considered to be less aggressive mods.

Paintscratch.com's WRB (02C) matches well :)
I'll be getting my lip on in the spring, can't wait to smash it up on my driveway :(

That is why my winter tires are 215/60/16 the added 3/4 of an inch makes a huge difference on winter damage.
| wrxzboost | 01-01-2006 02:15 PM |
main reason why i'm avoiding any lip period...not worth it in my opinion. i just added some sti splitters to make the front end stand out a little better.
| Ghost Rider | 01-01-2006 03:24 PM |
my v.2 lip has taken some damage on the bottom, and i am at stock height. I can't lower the car till i get a new place because my driveway is so steep and you can't park on the road here overnight from dec 1 to april 1

Meh, WRX's are rally based cars. So scratches on them are cool. The same way scars are cool. The trick is just to have something fun to remember about them.
example:"Oh what happen there? well my friend bet me I couldn't jump the car off the ground so....."

i'm scared to inspect my front bumper and look closely at it!
| digitalmethods | 01-03-2006 02:33 PM |
I paint mine every spring. I now have a Kaminari front urethane lip on it. I can drive the crap out of my car without worrying. I smashed my poor Greddy lip badly beyond repair last winter when I was plowing snow with it. My new one is painted carbon black but I think I might do flat black. That way if it gets scratched then I'll just mist some more paint on there. Heheh. I'd post up a pic for you but I have no clue how to. BTW the rest of my cars paint is flawless so if I say it looks good it looks great. I used to detail cars for a living. Otherwise make a small aluminum skid plate for the front lip that is painted black or something. That way the bumper will slide over the ground and just need to be touched up.

after scraping mine constanly and touching it up i bought skateboard griptape (like sandpaper but adhesive on one side) and put it on the bottom section where you cant see it. Works like a charm, and keeps the scrapes from causing the paint to chip :)

interesting... and you can sand things at the same time!
lol could use blue tape like suggested above...
how does it hold in winter?

Lol.. You should see my front end.. Don't have any lip, but have ofcourse scratched much of the lower parts + smashed the under engine plastic stuff..
This must be expected when you rally X your car ;)
Now I'm trying to get a carbon/kevlar underbody protection (full set) so I don't have to be carefull with sideskirts and body when I cut corners a little to much..
But scratches are not nice.. The first once are worst, after that it's just authentic rally styling ;)

I'll be getting a V6 lip and grill this year, as well as hopefully a total repaint on my car, including the lip. And the brand new V6 rear spats and genuine STi aero guards I have in my garage.
$2K or so later (not including the grill/lip) I'll probably be a happy guy, but yeah I'm expecting the scratches. Fortunately, the V6 lip is very pliable, so even if the paint scratches off a bit, the lip itself is very resilient to damage. To a point, of course!.

I didn't install one but I'm sure that I could fab one up. Go to your local Home Dumpo or Lowe's and look around. Find a good aluminum trim and cut it. get one that bends up on the end similar to a door threshold. mounting should be easy if your at a Home center. There's tons of ideas just laying around. I personally just would get a eurethane front lip and drive the car carefully. My front lip is about 4 inches from the ground and I live in MA and I can manage just fine. If I was to do one I would mount it directly to the lip with no gap. That's why I would paint it black to look like a small C/F lip under the lip. Similar shaped like this from the side view ______/ except with maybe a rounded edge vs the straight 45.

I just put on a skidplate, Damn! LOL just the only issue is that covers the center of the lip... ive found my my scratches on the side... seems lower and takes more abuse there :+(

Guys, it bolts on to where the stock undertray bolts to.... No drilling, no modding, just bolting... :)

well there u go.. mine is UNDER the bumper cant see it unless u lay on your back but it annoys me... its my car i know all the details
| digitalmethods | 01-05-2006 06:32 AM |
I didn't know you were talking about scratches that weren't even visible. I don't even care about those. Like I said I get my car painted every year or two up front. My boy works at a body shop so all I need to do is the labor. He shoots it and boom bam all done. If you are really worried about just scratches why not try that 3m clear bra going under the front lip. As long as you drive it carefully those minor scratches you have shouldn't even go through the material. Just hit the driveways at more of an angle. Bren and me drive around the same city and we both seem to manage pretty well. Where I live is not easy on a car either.
| TheLegacy | 01-06-2006 02:50 AM |
i know the area you guys live.. every little detail of my car, i know. If i've got a small chip, im pissed... I mean ya its a daily car but you know how it is.. its our baby!!! We love our cars
| digitalmethods | 01-06-2006 06:20 AM |
True and I feel ya on that. It does suck but I've had very minimal problems with the current setup I have now. I just have chips that I want to get rid of. I'm painting the whole front end then putting on the 3m clear bra.
| TheLegacy | 01-06-2006 01:45 PM |
thats what I will most likely do. I haven't done much body work. I'm the 3rd owner, both didn't have the car that long but there is stuff that needs work. Paint was flaking in the front anyway.
Now I'm looking for lips for my car, something that works well and isnt to low since I'm dropped
