Retrofit Completed : Aspen White 05 STi

Just completed a retrofit for one of my local customers and wanted to show you guys the beautiful light output.
The projector is a color modded TSX projector with BMW shrouds and modified d2r bulbs to fit in the TSX projectors. Overall I think this came out EXCELLENT.
The stock light output is below....
Far:

The labor cost alone for this is 275.
This does NOT include painting, shipping, paypal fees, projector/shroud costs.

Off topic but can i get a pair of those clear parking light bulbs? I saw that they are $10 on your website.

can you PM me a total cost for the retrofit on a pair of 1004 WRX headlights, zip code 22304?
do I need to ship you a set of headlights or can you do a core charge and let me send you my (already cleared) headlights after I receive the retros?

Sure, or you can order them from autolumination as I do. They are $7 plus shipping. I do not make money off the bulbs, I just supply them. I just charge for my labor ;)

Well actually, thats how I do it on iwsti.com, I offer the core swaps. However you do not have the stock HID units so your costs will go up by a large amount, however if you want to source out the HID kit yourself, I can get everything else for you. What I can do it complete the Retrofit, and send you the setup without the ballasts, ignitors, or bulbs.
There is a waiting list, however I only have one customer, and I am starting on his retro this weekend. If you want I can put you on the list..
The labor is $275. I source out the TSX projectors at 175-200 shipped depending on demand. You can choose the shroud you want. However they can get expensive as well. Anywhere from 60-120 shipped.
Shipping, Painting, Paypal fees arent included....
If you get the HID kit yourself (OEM ballast, bulbs, ignitors) youd be good to go once you receive the Retrofit.
You can ship me your headlamps, and you would have too unless of course they are in perfect shape. Otherwise doing a core swap doesnt work for me because your current lamps become the new project lamps. I hope you understand that. It takes a minimum of 15-20 hours for a retrofit, I can do this in about 4-8 days depending on how busy I am.

ah, so this retro fit is for the STi only. we're talking about acquiring a set of STi HIDs + shipping + $595? they look great but that's too rich for my budget right now. :( maybe next year...
| LightWerkz | 10-06-2006 02:11 PM |
The customer that this was for paid 525 plus his OEM STI HID's.
Part cost alot, but this is the way to do it right. He paid 175 for the projectors, and 75 for the BMW shrouds.
This isnt for the STi owners only, its just most cost effective for them.
If you can source out the parts cheaper, then just figure the price for the labor is $275.

not trying to barter you down on the price or anything. I would be more than happy to send off my headlights and a check for $525, I just didn't realize that I needed the STi headlights as a starting point. your work looks great. keep it up and you're sure to have a line of customers waiting.

Thats fine, I just wanted to explain where the figures were coming from.
Yes the lamps, are a starting point...you can always send your lamps back to me, however would need to find an HID kit.
Thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunetly I can only handle one customer at a time.

I'm interested in getting this done with my 05 WRX. This is how i understand this to work:
-We send you our headlights, shroud, and projectors. (I like the above combination of the TSX projectors and the bmw shroud)
- We pay you $275 for the retrofit
- We supply our own ballasts, bulbs, etc
- Wire in the ballasts, pop in the retros, life is good.
Correct?

I can source out the projectors, but I 99% of the time these will come from Ebay. Pricing varies, my vendors dont always have TSX projectors, and if they do, its all about the demand. The price can vary from 160-200 shipped, just gotta catch them on a good day. I do NOT intend on making money of this community on overcharging on the projectors/shrouds, so therefore you do pay actualy costs if you have me source them out.
You can however get it ALL on your own, and send it over for me to do the retrofit.
If you have a good condition STI HID headlamp set, I can do the work if you put down a deposit, send you over the retrofitted pair of lamps, and the customer sends the original headlamps back to me.
I have a spare set of headlamps, and what I do is order the materials needed, and just do a retrofit over the course of a week or so. I plan to keep doing this on a weekly basis, so most likely I have parts waiting for the next customer.
Again, you can supply all your own materials, and then pay me the 275 plus shipping and plus any other fees for things like painting or paypal fees.
Yes life is good ;)

THats MY CAR!!!!!!
Well, all I have to say is WOWOWOWOWOWOW....Gotta love the projectors...the vision you get from them is second to none...a 1000% difference in the amount of the road you see and the amount of more USEFUL visible light. The colorshift of the cutoff is amazing...I don't have enough words to describe it...You must see it to believe it...When you see me at meets, I will be the guy who wont stop talking about how much better these are then stock...All I have to say is GET THEM DONE...its worth the time put in by Caesar because as you can see, its all worth it in the end.

thats nice. pretty clean. i wished i was able to source some shoruds when i retrofited my GC headlights.
how many washers did you use on the color mod? i got a little more blue/purple in mine. i used 2 on each of the bottom nipples and it gave me nice color.
wow 15-20 hours? but i think thats about right. i think i spent about 9 hours doing TSX in GC headlights the first time and 6 hours the second time but GC headlights are that much easier to do.
ive done a total of 3, my first one was a nightmare. i used a e55 projector(bi-xenon) and the soleniod was huge. so there was lots of cutting. i liked retaining the high beam function but the e55 just doesnt provide as much light as the TSX projector. but TSX projectors and S2K projectors have the best output ive seen.
ive been rocking TSX projectors for almost 4 months and i cant imagine having anything less.
Nice Work!

Yes very clean. I plan to do some different styles. Yes its a TON of work. That also included painting, aiming, sealing, extending, everything...
Solid few days of work on my spare time.
I used two washers on the bottom like you said. Im pretty happy with how the color came out. When I was in front on this car all I saw was purple purple purple....rediculous... :)
Thanks I plan to use some TSX projectors in mine as well.
Do you have any pics of your work?

he took out reflector HIDs and pt in Projector HIDS. projector provides a cleaner and more focused light. with TSX you also get a much wider beam of light. Comparing the TSX to my Hella Fogs, my TSX had a wider angle.

my work doesnt look the cleanest because of the lack of shrouds. i wished i could dish out the 80-100 for shrouds.
basically you see the projector. but with 1 hour of tiem i could bake the lights, slap on a shroud and hopefully look clean.

^^ Nice work. I agree, a shroud will look much much cleaner. And your right it would only take you about an hour or so to pop the lamps open and JB weld a shroud on. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Wow $275, Are you on hidplanet? I did a TL projector to mine with 2 washers and the shield mod. But as far as a good combination LS430 projector and a 300zx lense works the best. Light werkz is mainly doing the retrofit and labor to my understanding and isnt sourcing most of the parts but its up to you if you wanted to do that.
Nice work do you do custom fiberglassed shrouds?? Subarus are great for retro's cuz of the room cept for gc's, i highly recommend bixenon its better than a single beam output especially if you have a bugeye with no high beam.

Retrofit company is risky. You need to already have built up some credability. Unfortunetly for me I just do not have the time to do retros all day, this is only a side job for me.
Yes im on Hidplanet...youll find my thread over there.
Bixenon looks tough because of its size. Where can I source out the shrouds you have on the bugeye? They look amazing.

theres tons of room in the bugeye for bixenon, i just cut a square out the bottom of the reflector that sits below the lense and let the actuator sit there, plus the TL is a huge projector 3" and add on the solenoid
lamp shades from ikea :D i just cut the top off and cut a 3 in hole using the bezels from the stock TL. I am re doin them soon, I've used doggy dishes before which are good if you want something reflective. Theres the ultimate shroud/bezel thread over on HID planet, I go to Ikea, furniture stores, lighting stores to see anything they got, you can find any type of finish, size etc
