We need more STX entries for the Oscoda Pro!

Come on STX people! We need a few more entries for the June 28,29 Oscoda, Michigan ProSolo. Right now there are 4 people signed up, with 1 dropping out to STS. This means we need at least 2 more people to sign up and make a class of 5. If you haven't tried a ProSolo before, come on out, its AWESOME!

Tom,
I'd like to try a ProSolo this year, but will be in FL visiting the family during the Oscoda event. I might make it to Peru & let all you hotshoes whip on me good.:p

Sweeet. That will be 4 then. We only need 1 more for a class. If all else fails, I might consider letting grady wood codrive my car to get a class of 5.

MNbiker: I'll be in Peru, so if you can't keep up with the big dogs, we can have a Battle Of The Slowpokes! ;)
Oscoda is kind of far for me, but for anybody who lives closer, and never ran a ProSolo yet: Sign up! It really is a lot of fun, and you don't need to be a "pro" to run there. I have run in two ProSolos (was DFL only once :) ), and it was probably the most fun I've had at an auto-x event. Since you're getting a lot of runs on a relatively short course, it can be more rewarding than for example a Tour event. You get an opportunity to optimize your runs and find your limit, instead of just starting to figure out the course when your three runs are over. And the drag race start adds even more excitement.

yeah, Pro's rock! though i am kind of peeved about the sudden change in the Finale entry requirements, esp since i already payed my money and signed up  oh well, i'll be at Peru, though in real class :p

For next year, yes. But IMHO it's anything but fair to change the rules in the middle of the game (5 out of 10 events were already run at the time of the announcement, and many people were signed up for other events, including the finale). I posted my viewpoint here: http://www.sccaforums.com/ubb/Forum45/HTML/000149.html.
But we digress... the ProSolo format is cool!

exactly. changing the rules in the middle of the season is very frustrating. i'm already signed up and paid for the finale but now i have to ask off work and get a hotel room and i won't even know if i'm allowed to go until 2 fricking weeks before the event. its silliness. the ProSolo format does rock and that's why i want to do more. getting jerked around does not rock though :( i emailed the solo/road rally department to let them know my displeasure.

Question for you guys though. If you aren't in the top 50% in points, why are you guys going to the season finale?? I always thought that was for the people that could win the championship.

seat time is seat time. not to mention, not having the money or time to travel all over the country, it would be nice to compete and meet more people from the coasts. there is no point requirement for Nationals. like i said, i'm not specifically opposed to the change of format. its changing the format in the middle of the season, after you already have 227 people signed up for the event, that is bogus. how can i make plans when i won't know whether i'll be bestowed the privilage of competing until a couple weeks before the event?
| KC | 05-28-2003 11:20 AM |
I don't look at it as trying to win the entire class. I look at it as a chance to trophy. If I can trophy, I might be good enough to win it all.
Many people are looking at those who should enter the pro as only those that could WIN the class. What about those that can't but have a chance at 2nd place? 3rd place? Trophy?
Where's the line get drawn as to who enters. With the new rule, I many not ever get to realize my potential against other drivers becasue they were in a tight class in their region, whereas some people could have had an easier win in other less contested regions.
You got the 1st one Tom, I'll get the next three. :D Hehehe.

A chance to trophy is if youre in the top 50%
If youre in the bottom 50%, you have no chance of a trophy anyways. If you are trying to get seat time, you are much better off going to the nationals practice course that weekend, where you will get a lot MORE seat time then you will at the pro finale.

I kind of agree with you Tom however, for those of us that live in areas where the events that are convenient/reasonable to attend don't happen until the mid to latter part of the season don't really know if we are in a position to trophy until it is pretty late in the Pro season. We haven't had a Pro or National yet and while I hope I can do well, I won't get a good indication until Toledo in a couple weeks. Sure, that is well indvance of the Finale but I also need to plan my PTO for work WELL in advance. Beyond that, regardless of my own results at Toledo, one event is still not a very strong indicator of how you might do at other events due to the number and type of people that show up.
I registered for the Pro finale because I *think* I have a decent chance of trophying and because if I'm going to drive all the way to Topeka I might as well compete in both events. My plan was to register, then see how I do at the 2 Pros I will attend and then decide whether or not to hit the Pro. My strategy hasn't really changed as a result of this new rule. In fact, I think it reflects my own expectations to attend if my results warrant it.

If they want to change it that way (for next year), that's fine with me. But when I started making plans at the beginning of the season, it was open to anybody who ran at least two events.
I want to go because I enjoy ProSolo. I like running against the best, it allows me to learn a lot, and see where I stand (even if the result isn't always pretty). I live relatively close to Topeka, and I'm going to Nationals anyway. I really saw it in the same spirit as Nationals. Some people go with the goal of winning, and that's great. Others know that they won't have a chance to win a jacket, or even a trophy, and they still compete to meet their own personal goals, and to have fun.
And I wouldn't want to miss the chance to take revenge on Karen! ;)

Yeah, I know. I'll do so later this week. Not real motivated to shell out the entry fee after being DECIMATED by KC, Orion, and the rest of the free world this weekend in Toledo. Hopefully I can put together at least ONE decent (& clean) run up in Oscoda!
| trhoppe | 06-09-2003 02:45 PM |
:) Not to discourage you further, but you need to put together TWO good runs, one per side.
Pro Solo is a whole different ballgame. Try it for the fun of it! I will have a codriver as well, so if you sign up, we definetly have a class.

I know I need TWO good runs for a good result. However, after this weekend, ONE would make me happy regardless of results!:)
I really enjoyed the ProSOLO in Oscoda last year. Of course, all you guys WIMPED OUT on driving up here so I got bumped to Kick-Bob's-Butt-SP and got beat by 2.7 DAYS. What I haven't mentioned yet is the fact that my co-driver and I will be at the same lot only one week earlier for the CenDiv event. We will be fully optimized for the surface and therefore will lose by less than a dozen seconds.;)

give me a .4 second 60-ft handicap and i'll play in stx. :D no wait, make that .8 unless i learn how to trip a good light.
as for the qualifications for the finale, i like the new rule. and i think they should adopt a similar thing for the national championship. why should someone who runs an event every weekend for the entire season in preperation for nats. loose a spot at nats. for some local yokel that goes to 2 events a year? and why are people using the pro-solo finale for seat time? that's what your local events are for anyhow. and don't give me any crap about no local tours or pro's either. welcome to new england were the closest pro or tour this year is in DC, a comfortable 8 hr drive made 12hr's because of the stupid traffic. if it's important to you, you'll find a way. as far as scheduling for the finale and such, why don't you just plan on going, then if you don't i'm sure your boss will be more then pleased to let you work instead of go on vacation.

Steve- it looks like Phil and I may be driving our respective cars, so I may drive mine rather than yours. I think yours maybe is better set up, but I'm used to mine. I do appreciate the offer though of codriving, i'll let you know in the next day or two.
Question for everyone...
I've been running my sway bar in the middle (22mm), and get decent rotation at Miller Park and other asphault surfaces. Steve told me that oscoda is cement, will I want to bump it up to 24 to get rotation there where grip is better?
