Soooo after looking at that list it would appear to me that the first thing to get rid of is the transmission.

I didn't note the rear seat I'm using is from a STI V7 so it has no passthru. Probably why it weighs a little less.

Wouldn't have any of the following by chance:
front oem (WRX) calipers w/ pads
front oem (WRX) rotors- 290X24
rear oem (WRX) calipers w/pads
rear oem (WRX) rotors- 266X10

I'm going to have to buy a scale- I really like to know the weights of various parts- as does dwx obviously:D

I have some laying around, I'll weigh them tonight. :)
I don't have any old stock rotors laying around. I have some calipers though.

2.47 ounces- oem, bosch tip the scale at 2.68 ounces- don't run these if you are concerned w/ weight
oh yeah before anybody else can think of some really "good" ones- go on a diet, fill your tires w/ helium, run w/o your tranny and many other side splitters- instead try posting them here http://www.lameassweight"jokes"

I've acquired an APS 3.5" turboback exhaust and will be weighing the pieces of that tonight. I'm going to guess the whole thing is probably around 40 lbs. The lightest turbo-back exhaust I can think of is the Buschur racing one. It weighs about 24 lbs for the whole thing. A godspeed JDM downpipe is about 10 lbs and you can get about a 9lb titanium catback, that would be the lightest overall exhaust, but rather $$$. The Buschur racing exhaust doesn't sound all that great, but it's only about $800.
I also acquired an Urban Import header, which is the same one as the GPMoto and others. It weighs about 24 lbs, which is double that of the Borla header.

| DrBiggly | 11-17-2004 01:52 PM |
Or if one were competing in oh say STX you could have a downpipe, 1 high-flow cat, and a piece of pipe the rest of the way back. I have no idea what that weighs but it doesn't seem to be terribly heavy. :)
| dwx | 11-17-2004 01:59 PM |
Yeah I was going to quantify the statement with "with a muffler" and "exits under the bumper". I may just run a downpipe next year with a sidepipe or a downturn.
| DrBiggly | 11-17-2004 02:08 PM |
Well if you count the turbo and the cat, I have two "mufflers" :p
Mine does exit under the bumper, but as far as quiet...that's not really part of the equation. :)

| afpdl | 11-17-2004 02:18 PM |
For Sm run a stromung or a turboxs dp(just the dp) and get a foot long pipe exiting behind the front passenger tire. 4 inches all the way out and garunteed the lightest

afpdl,
In case you haven't noticed my sidebar I run STX. (Or did you mean that for in general and not towards me?) :)

The weight of the exhaust manifold would be nice too.
edit: Actually the Oakos Automotive site has most of the exhaust components. Here are the numbers they list:
Stock Rear Muffler Section - 20.40 lbs.
Resonator Pipe - 10.70 lbs.
Rear Catalytic Converter - 10.0 lbs.
Down Pipe - 12.35 lbs.

Hard to believe I missed that @ Oakos- the eyes are the first thing to go:)- thanks for posting it.
oem exhaust manifold is 16.3 lbs- both manifolds and cross-pipe- that's w/o heat shields- guessing 2ish lbs for shields, thus ~ 18.5 lbs
Looks like I've shaved ~ 2 lbs on the uppipe, ~4 lbs on the downpipe and ~ 10 lbs on the muffler - not too shabby

Yeah I think the exhaust is the single biggest place to save weight. That and the battery. You can save about 50 lbs from those two items alone.

passenger side 8.5 lbs, driver side 4.8 lbs, cross-pipe 3 lbs - that's sans heat shields- probably should add ~ 2 lbs- makes it ~ 18.3 lbs
wrapped headers (previous page) were ~ 11.5 lbs- almost 7 lbs there

Ill try and weight my borlas before I put em on. One of the main reasons I got them was weight savings but I was hoping to at least save 10lbs from out in front of the wheels.

So, some of the headers out there weigh more than the stock manifold? Yuck. Or does the Urban Import header contain an up-pipe too? If so, its a slight weight savings, but not as much as I would have expected.

It includes an uppipe, it's a 4-2-1 header, same as the GPMoto one. It's also a true equal length header so there is quite a bit more piping.
