Where to buy magnetic numbers?

I am getting a bit tired of using the ol' blue painters tape for my numbers at the different track events. I went to my local hardware store to see if they had some magnetic numbers, but they didnt. Does anyone know an online site that sells them?

magnetking.com I believe thats the web site.. they sell sheets of magnets and what you do is go to mircosoft word print out some numberse and letters in the front you like and cut them out then trace them on the magnet and cut them out and u have your numbers.

www.solotime.com also has a great selection.
I've made auto-x letters out of magnetic air conditioning vent louver covers. You can find the sheets of material at most hardware stores, just look in the section where they have all the ducts and stuff for heating/air con systems. The sheets are something like 8x15", and a few sheets cost me about $15 as I recall. It's pretty easy to work with, but the sheets are thinner than the stuff that Solotime uses, so the magnets aren't as strong. OK for an auto-x, but at a track event they'd blow off.

Or you can buy rolls of magnetic materials at craft stores. I picked up some pretty heavy duty stuff to make mine out of. Forgot to take them off after one event and they easily survived interstate speeds on the way home.

Great, thanks everyone. I think I might order 10" numbers from Solotime. I like the number "box" at rally decals, but numbers have to be at least 10" tall if I remember correctly.

FYI, Solo Perfromance Specialties bought solotime. They're excellent to deal with and very professional. I have bought lots of stuff from them, including magnets :)

I am completely satisfied with the number set I got from rallydecals. Plus, they showed up less than a week after I ordered them. I have done 2 events with them thus far with no "fly offs".
One thing to remember with mag numbers is that they should be wiped down (on the side that touches the car) before you put them on. No need to risk having a small piece of dirt leaving a mark on the car finish.

As far as being legal, SCCA requires 8" with 1.25" Stroke for numbers and 4" with .75" Stroke. The numbers I sell are legal.
You will see I don't offer cut out magnet numbers. They tear easily if not kept well, and don't have the same pulling force as a square back. (Cutting out my own many years ago using gutter guard is what made me buy my 1st cutter years ago.... I used to lose or tear a number every other event.)
And thanks for the kind words guys. :)
(And they stay on at track speeds...)

I'd like to see individually cut numbers do that. ;)

Aright, NASA says 10" numbers but knowing NASA I doubt they would care. I'll order up two different sets in a little while. :)

I've had my individually cut Solotime numbers up to around 110 or so without losing them. Now, whether they'd stay on at STi speeds I dunno. :)
I've also never had any problems with my Solotime numbers tearing. I've had them for about 6 years now, with countless events, and I've never given them any special care. I pull them off the car, stack them in a pile, and throw them (literally) in the car.
You know I love you, KC, just keepin' it real.... :)

For the Rallydecals box, is the box itself always white, with black numbers? So if I got Silver numbers, would the box still be white?

1. Go to hobby store and buy 12"x24" white sheet magnet
2. Measure per SCCA/NASA guidelines
3. Trace impression
4. Cut
5. Apply to car
6. OMGhitoUmagnetics!
^^^^ Works great for autoX, I don't know about track days.

I'll throw in my +1 for SoloPeformance.com as well. Since they aquired Solotime I got a set of the Solotime decals and they are the best I've ever had. Amazing!

Rallydecals.com is great! (where else can you get obnoxious messages like "you just got beat by a girl :p" or "will the real CamaroFS34 please stand up"? ;) )
Another good place is ssc-tint.com (Susquehanna Solar Control), owned by autocrosser "Little" Mike Snyder.
There are a variety of places to get magnetics if you don't want to make them yourself (or can't).

i also got mine through pro tape, at the recommendation of SubieGal, iirc. my specs were number/letter style #5, rounded-corner rectangular panel, with the Hardy-Ramanujan number, of course. :D
