Sounds like a fun event with the right promotion and all. Right now the National SCCA race at Road Atlanta is on my schedule, but, I will consider this for sure if its June. (Count me as one of the "One Lap" guys)

It is happening June 3rd Saturday!
| smokedmustang | 12-29-2005 09:21 PM |
I originally had it set for mothers day weekend, but Brody(quicksilver) mentioned in order to allow the one-lappers in, we should consider moving the date, so we did this for YOU I guess!
| smokedmustang | 12-29-2005 09:28 PM |
The events are 10 imports vs 10 Domestics (of like "classes") do 1 event, move on to the next, and at the end of the day, the team (IMPORT of DOMESTIC) with the lowest combined times, all events, all cars, is declared the Winged Warrior Champion of 2006! the trophy will be either to the imports or the domestics. then the top 5 in each class do 1 special event to determine the overall champion!
The competition will be fierce, with NOS vipers,Ligenfelter vettes,cobras,etc.... We have to whoop up on them. Entry is by donation only $5.00 or whatever, and the money goes to Riley Hospital for Children. so in effect, they win. I expect 7500-10K in attendence, with lots of prizes, trophies, cash giveaways, and TV/Magazine coverage. It will be a great FAMILY time. THe SCCA/MVSCC will be helping out, and we will have professional timing devices etc... lots of vendors are welcome on VENDOR row also. will keep you posted. Registration is by website (up by the 6th of Jan).

Does that mean only 10 Entrants of each total.. so 20 total competitors? Or will there be teams of 10, and many of them?
How will teams be picked if so, randomly assigned when you enter? Team up with friends? Etc..

It is in Indiana. 10 miles or so East on INDY, off I70. there are 140 cars total, 70 on each side. but there are 7 events. so in order to do all events, with all cars, we will be having a shotgun start. There will be 20 cars at each "station" 10 import/10 domestics. that is your "GROUP" you finish one event, and as a group, you move on to the next event, repeat until all are done. Cars will be classed as a close match, if HP, mods etc...
The registration is not open yet, as we are finalizing the website. Should be up soon, and don't worry, I will post that address here.
There will be cars ranging from stock to OMFG!

That will suck that it will be against the Pro Solo.. But magazine coverage may be worth more to me than what the Pro Solo will get.
Will there be an overall winner or just teams? Group winners?
The format sounds confusing now, but I am sure will make more sense when it happens.

I'd like to do both, but the ProSolo is part of a series and I need the event or I'll have to tow to Utah...

Joel, maybe i can start a bad direction of thought... but the way a Pro Solo works, do you HAVE to be there the first day? or could you come in and run day two.. you just lose a "fair" amount of chances right?

Each of the 7 events will have 1 IMPORT winner(lowest time), and 1 DOMESTIC winner (lowest time in said event)with all getting trophies (14 total for the class winners) Then the combined TOTAL lowest times, for ALL cars, in ALL events is declared the Winged Warrior Speed Challenge Champion. (1 Huge trophy goes to either TEAM USA or TEAM IMPORT!) Then the top 5 imports (lowest times in all 7 events) Will square off against the top 5 Domestic cars, and do an event(we will keep what it is secret until race day) The winner of that gets a huge trophy and lots of cash, and is crowned WINGED WARRIOR GRAND CHAMPION 2006! That person must return the next year with the trophy to defend it!
Is that confusing? It will make more sence later I guess. sound like fun?

Another thing for you autoxers, you MUST do ALL Events, to help our team. remember, you will shine in one area, and maybe not shine so well in the others, look above at the 7 disiplines. We have some 1000HP cars to help us in the drags, and maybe not so helpful in the "tasks" which require turning.
| racerjon1 | 12-30-2005 03:17 PM |
So combined time from all cars entered in all events, 70cars x 7 events so 490 times vs 490 times? (or points of some type since braking will be measured in feet and not seconds)
I know I am being a pain, but I am more curious now than anything. I can see how it will work with the groups of 10, not so confused there anymore.
I wouldn't worry about the Autocrossers not doing the other events, even if they know it wont be their strong points, they will probably want to know how their cars stack up. We did a similar thing with the Car & Driver PRO series, where they had autocross course, skidpad and 100 yard drag strip, it was fun testing the limits at each.
For your info btw, Joel has an autocross car thats probably going to be deep into the 11s at that point, and The car I bring out will be a mid 10 second roadrace/autocross car. The "issue" with it being against the SCCA pro Solo is the fast straight line and cornering autocross cars will mostly be there.

Wouldn't really be worth the entry fee if you got 2 chances per side versus your competitor's 6 tries per side. That doesn't even consider the fact that it may be dry Saturday and rain Sunday. Furthermore, I'm not sure it's allowed...

Yea the entry fee for just those runs is tough, also why i mentioned "fairness" even if its self inflicted disadvantage. Mainly jsut thinking out loud.
As far as it being allowed, at the Atlanta Pro Solo last year I remember when they were going over worker assignments there were a couple of people that knew they were not going to be there on sunday, (were at my station) and told the worker steward about it, and there didn't seem to be an issue.

It is by a point system. quickest times equals the most points, the braking in the shortest distance, most points.
I think I lost you, don't know what you are saying.
lets just pretend it is ONLY YOU out there:
autoX: 3 runs on the track, lowest time is a keeper
Dragrace: 3 runs down the track, lowest time is the keeper
slalom: 3 runs down the track, lowest time is the keeper
100-0MPH, 3 runs down the track. (shortest distance is the keeper)
Skidpad. 3 attempts (highest Gforce is the keeper)
0-60 MPH: quickest time is the keeper!
NOW, do this for everyone, and 140 cars get to do ALL the above! Is it still unclear? Maybe I am explaining it wrong, I dont know.
racer car show: who cares, the judges will pick the best looking car. This DOESN'T count towards the final points. a non-point event. This is the time, when you get to this "station", you get a break. to walk around/eat/rest...
There is also a HUGE car show on the grounds, so you can go see that also.

Smoked, when AUTOwrXER said "not worth it" he was talking about running the import vs domestic event on saturday, and running the SCCA Pro Solo on Sunday only (normally a 2 day event) so that wasn't a strike against your event.

I guess Danny Popp and his Vette want to run. Anyone heard of him? All as I know, is he is a many time trophy winner, and his ZO6 has traction control, and is one NASTY ride!
| racerjon1 | 01-14-2006 11:15 AM |
Danny is fast as hell, and will be on top, or within one spot on the autocross course. Also, I have seen that car run a 11.85 or so in the quarter, so its not exactly a slouch there.
Danny is also a big SCCA Autocrosser, and I would think he would be in Peru for the Pro Solo.
