WRX Hood On a 2.5RS (02-03)

As the title, do you guys think it will be a good idea. Is there anyone have a 2.5 RS with that deep weight OEM Hood?
WRX Hood seems look lighter than our 2.5 RS hood.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7907262199&category=33646
what about this? do you guys think a 3M tape can stick hardly on my 2.5RS Hood? Any one had install one??

ok if you put that scoop on i will personally come over to your house and slap you then beat you silly with the fake scoop
the wrx hood is considerably lighter than the rs hood and if you get a top mount intake it will make the scoop functional. also if you replace the scoop with a reverse one it sucks out hot air which is good.
i know a lot of rs's that drive around with wrx hoods on its just nicer in my opinion if you like them then do it dont listen to people with wrxs who will hate

to say that a hole in your hood without a top mount intercooler is useless is wrong. according to the laws of nature, heat rises. since your hood is at the top of your engine compartment, any hole in it will alow the power robbing, engine killing heat to escape. However, a 2.5rs hood already has this idea nailed much better than a wrx, because the 2.5rs has vents which force air outwards, whereas the wrx forces air inwards. for a cheap price on ebay, a lightweight carbon fiber hood can be acquired.

dont do it, we dont need someone w/a nonfunctional hoodscoop when thats the only way we can tell the retards that think our cars are wrxs theyre wrong

ok so everyone with a gc8 take their hoodscoops off!
i also want to get a wrx hood, because they are lighter and get a reverse scoop to expel heat.

I disagree. Get over your WRX ego man.
The WRX hood is a good upgrade for the 2.5RS as it is much lighter. The GDA 2.5RS is well under 3,000 lbs to begin with, lighter than your overweight WRX. The hood will bring it down even further and help with handling and 0-60 a tad bit.
Also the scoop can be made functional by incorporating an intake behind it.

you guys must have not clicked the link its a not a real hood scoop its held on by 3m tape if yall dont think thats rice then you dont have the right to call a honda that does that rice. Now if he gets the wrx hood thats a different story although it still isnt really functional since our hood was designed to direct air to the intercooler(why not just get a carbon fiber hood it would be lighter than both)
Cliff Notes: I said NON functional hood scoop, and if you think that hood scoop thats on ebay is functional you should be shot

a CF hood is not much lighter than the stock wrx hood..if anything they weigh almost the same
| Subie Gal | 06-25-2004 12:24 PM |
CF hoods = dangerous.
sorry but they have no crumple zones and yes.. i know "it's not going to happen to you" but if you DO get in an accident... CF will rip right through any and everything... including your face and neck...... sorry but that's my $.02.... i wont touch the stuff.
excellend mod for the RS' is to get the lightweight Alum WRX hood. nothing wrong with that at all!
but the fake - tape it on - hood scoop? wow. that's a bit much ... even for a "ricer" like me :D

An RS with a WRX hood is not rice. Not IMO. It's still clean and stylish. It's not over the top. It's a weight saving technique seeing as how myhood is made of steel. And the hood scoop may just look nicer to some people. Me? I like my scoopless RS hood, but I wish I could find a lighter alternative.
As for that 3m Tape deal. :/

OK I NEVER said I liked that phony stick-on ebay scoop!! I was talkin about stock WRX hood with the real scoop.
Even without an intercooler I think it would do a good job at keeping underhood temps down.
And YES, a CF hood WILL decapitate you in an accident!

Do whatever you want. If you like the looks then go for it. Im sure the majority of people who are not car buffs on the road think our WRX's and STi's are rice mobiles with the big scoops, wings, wheels etc. And if one of those people ask you what its for, (had a 70yr old grandma do this to me before...it runs the spectrum in age but just so you know), you explain the functionality of the part and they still look at you like the part is worthless anyways. The only thing I question about the scoop is the 3m tape. Id watch that if I where you. I know that in FLA with the humidity, heat from the sun, and heat generated from the engine, that sucker could probably fly off at 80mph.
| Samirr76 | 06-25-2004 06:16 PM |
pre-2001 JDM wrxs had a problem with REAL hoodscoops flying off that were bolted down!
Let alone double sided tape wont hold!!

well since everyone is talking about non funtional scoops i have a RS and i was wondering if i were to take the vent covers on...would the honeycomb cover leave too big of gaps (so too much water gets in ie. rain or when i wash the car)
| piker28 | 06-25-2004 09:48 PM |
well whats it really onna get on? the battery and the top of the intake? i think it would be fine but i would not leave them uncovered for big rainfals or anythign
also think about it why do it? heat will not escape from there with the stock vents get 22b vents if you want to remove the covers

| Bigdrw | 06-25-2004 10:07 PM |
true do you have a link to those vents.....also what do you think about getting a turbo down the road with a center mounted intercooler to make the scoop have a function?

i have a 03 RS with a wrx hood, i love it. I also get a lot of people coming up to me and asking me if its an STi or a wrx.. i tell them its only a 2.5 and they walk away. its embarassing sometimes.
But i keep my 2.5 badging on there people can think what they want. im sure a lot of people on the road think im a faker. it hurts, but i wasnt able to afford a wrx so thats all i can do :)

i like the look of RS front much more than a WRX. I have a friend who swapped his WRX hood for an RS hood and went with a front mount intercooler. I've had people ask me if my "WRX" has a custom hood (I debadged the 2.5RS part). Nothin wrong with reppin the RS hood.
| ejicon | 06-25-2004 11:48 PM |
I have a 02 RS.. Blue Ridge Pearl. I bought a stock Aspen White WRX hood + scoop from a fellow on this board. Got a great deal! My only downfall is getting this thing painted :( Very pricey considering that WRX hoods don't come in BRP. All in all, I can't wait to get my hood. A expensice dress up mod, but I'm going to try and incorporate my intake with the hood scoop. Good luck.

I have a aluminum WRX hood Sti hood scoop on my TS (RS). If you just mount it on the stock RS hood it will most likely crack and cause drag. I you do plan on getting a scoop I say get the proper hood as well. It's alot lighter too.
Well I know my hood is mainly for looks but hell why do people put on body kits? And Plus I love looking over the famous Subaru power bluge when driving.:D

I agree with that. Before the RS I had a WRX and an STI. I rather like not having to look over the scoop. In fact it makes the entire front disappear a few feet from the edge of the windshield. Rather interesting view after driving those two cars.

yea, a wrx hood avec scoop is no more rice than body kits or any of the jillion other things we do to our cars. I wanted a scooped hood when I first got my rs, but now I actually prefer the non scooped look. One day if I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket I might get a wrx hood and paint it brp, but i doubt it.
And even if the scoop isn't functional the hood is still a heck of a lot lighter as people have mentioned.

legacyandy, check out the rules. No all caps posting is allowed.
A wrx hood is a fine mod on an RS. It cuts a lot of weight off the car, and I'm personally a fan of the hood scoop. Nothing says Subaru like a hood scoop, IMO.

I have a 02' RS BRP and i was planning on going all jdm, (hood scoop, foglight covers, jdm headlights, and sti grill). I dont think theres anything wrong with designing your car the way you want it to look. How much would it cost to paint it? Oh btw does anyone have a WRX hood for sale? :o

New RS Sport Package comes with the STi covers. Still rice?
I have STi covers on my RS, peeled off the large pink STi sticker and left the small grey Subaru Technica International on it. Looks cleaner on a PSM IMO.

I wanted to get a WRX hood, but the more I think about it; I don't want one. If I wanted a hood scoop, I should've just bought a WRX. The RS looks clean and sleek without the scoop.

kind of a late reply, but I ran into the same issue with my TS, i wanted to get rid of the heavy hood, and was deciding between the a stock wrx hood, a carbon fiber hood with scoop, or a carbon fiber one without.
I ended up getting the kaminari reverse cowl CF hood and it is sweet. Super light and I haven't personally seen it on another car.

(sorry about the image sizes . . . )
and the reverse cowl does a good job of cooling the radiator. you can see heat coming out of the vent once you stop the car.
i still hope to eventually get a turbo kit, but I figured if I got the hood with the scoop I would probably never get a turbo.
what I think is funnier is that most people come up to me and are like where did you hide your intercooler? I don't see a front mount?

but dont bother with a turbo kit youll end up putting more money into that then just doing a plain motor swap
