WRX seats vs STI seat

wat is the difference between the 04 wrx seats and the 04 sti seats other than the blue suade, are they stiffer or anything like that, i was just wondering thanks
| liigod | 08-13-2003 02:39 AM |
they definatly arent stiffer ill tell you that
| jacobsen1_ | 08-13-2003 08:47 AM |
The cloth is the only difference. I like the 04 wrx seat color as it is more stealth and less flash. I want the sleeper look. I don't like the fishnet fabric of the wrx though as crumbs love to live in the holes... Can't afford the STi anyway though!

Nope,
<-------
owned both, and now I can say the 04s are better than the 02/03s except for the crumbs in the cloth issue.... much more comfortable though...
Ben
Edit: both are mcuh more comfortable than the MINI sport seats that are in my wifes MINI though.... not that they are bad, but the lumbar doesn't fit me right...

Not up for argueing either, but how much time have you spent in the 04 seats? The Butt is tighter than the 02/03... The top part is pretty much similar....
I'm not fat (6'4" 200lbs) but no bean pole either, and the 04 seats are tighter on my Butt that the old ones.... I also store all my extra pounds in a nice shed over my tool.... if you know what I mean....

Well, you've only sat in them. I've owned both V7 and V8 STI seats, I can tell you the V8 is better simply because the side bolsters do not get into the way during hard driving.
The V7 wraps you snuggly when you're sitting but after couple of auto-x sessions, my top shoulder keeps getting rubbed by the top bolsters.
This is the reason why in V8, they opened up the top bolsters to allow your shoulders to move freely. It does bolsters my shoulder just fine and a bit more lumbar support and slightly wider than V7.
Try driving both V7 + V8, I traded in my V7 after driving a car with the V8 JDM seats.
Another thing, try drinking soda while driving in the V7, you can't the top side bolsters prevent shoulder movements.
I'm just stating my experiences.

you don't want your shoulders to move around... that's the point... that's what the bolsters are for...

I agree, I have the same seats (JDM V8's). The USDM STi got robbed as far as the seats go.
Did you ever get the height adjustment for your JDM V8 seats? I've been looking for the part for this.

Comparing the V7 to the V8 is like...
All the issues people have with the V7 have been fixed and the styling changed slightly on the V8, it is slightly wider than the V7 which is a good thing on my kidneys.
USDM STI seats is like a sofa chair, it's soft and comfy but not going to grip you.

Sounds like the swap to JDM seat will switch the sliding mechanism as well? You know with the stock seat, when you fold the back, the passenger side can slide freely while the driver side cannot?
I have heard that the JDM V8 seats are wider in the shoulder area which I would rather have because I don't race all that often. I'm concerned about the side bolstering - maybe I'm just too skinny for any seat to fit me snuggly?

unless you have really broad shoulders, the shoulders are fine in all the STi seats... if you are skinny, the shoulder support will help... plus the seats feel good and snug while still remaining comfy...

I'm pretty much torn as far as seat upgrades go...
I know anything should be better than the RS seats in the old body, I know that I wanted more lateral support, preferrably less attractive in terms of colors...
I haven't checked with the local shop to see if they have sold their 02 and 04 WRX seats (02 is $1000 CDN, 04 $1200 CDN), and then there are the JDM V3-6 seats (which I believe only the V3 is black while the others have various level of red and gray trim which I don't like), V7 and V8 seats are hard to come by at about 50% more cost (plus shipping) than the USDM seats.
Complicating the matter is the fact that I have only sat in the Euro spec V4 seats (non-STi) - I know I like those, V7 or V8 being sedan seats will not slide when the backs are folded, and all JDM seats are RHD.
I don't know if the 02 or 04 USDM seats is worth while to upgrade, or should I spend about 50% more in getting the V8 which I will need to hack the rails to make it slide. The last option would be V3 since they are black, not as pricey but still a significant upgrade over the stock seats.
In terms of looks, V8 wins hands down - but looks aren't the only thing when it comes to changing seat, and having been broken in before, I don't really need more unnecessary attraction.
Can you smell someone who can't make squat decision here?

You can get used WRX seats for very cheap... ie about $300 for both fronts and probally $450 for the whole set. Then get leather/custom seat covers for them. This puts you at about $1200 for a full interior.
