'02 WRX wagon mudflaps
Ok, I've searched the archives for any info on mudflaps and the only thing I've found is the Primm's link for DIY rally mudflaps. I might go that route but if there's something else we can do that looks a little nicer, I'd like to know about it.
thanks

Try searching for aero splash guards. I've got them on my wagon, I think they look nice, and should protect the body well enough. They're OEM parts, but for some reason are not available from domestic dealers. There is a Suby dealer in Vancouver BC that sells them.

Here's a few pics of my "aero" style splash guards, as Subaru calls them. Short of rally-car driving in gravel, they protect the paint quite well.

I saw a red WRX wagon in Colorado (with Montana plates) that seemed to have what looked like standard Impreza splash guards on it- all 4 corners, yet my dealer told me they don't fit, what's the story on those little things?

Looks good, DeanO. Where to buy?

T-REX,
Glenn Wallace arranged a group buy from Canada about 5 months ago. My receipt shows that I paid $166(CDN) plus shipping from Specialty Motors in Vancouver. Their phone # is 1-877-980-2464

If anyone comes up with some actual mudflaps, I would definitely like to buy a pair.

Jeeze. All I want is moulded MUDFLAPS that fit both the front and the back of a WRX WAGON.
That's to say:
1) NOT splashguards (aero or otherwise)
2) NOT square ones that are cut then slapped on the back
3) NOT ones with Yosemite Sam on it saying, "Back Off"
4) NOT the $400 Rally flaps
All I want is a set of black OEM moulded mudflps with "SUBARU" embossed on them. But it seems I have a better chance of finding hen's teeth. :monkey:

But seriously, I'm with topcover. I want the mudflaps for the wagon to keep the wet and slush off the fenders and side of car, not the splash guards. I put mudflaps from a TS Wagon on the rear and they fit fine. The ones for the front don't fit and though I cut them out to fit, they are not perfect therefore are not on my car. Anyone find the real thing let us know.

No Subaru mudflaps
I purchased the imprezza wagon mudflaps from subaruparts.com for about $80. The rears fit perfectly, but the front ones don't fit at all.
The problem with the front mudflaps involves the plastic, black, lower side skirt the WRX receives but the standard wagon does not. Someone once mentioned trimming the front flaps to fit, but that would be pretty difficult to do since there needs to be some major modification performed. (I tried to trim them but only ended up with a lot of plastic shavings and a crappy attitude)
You could remove the skirt and fit the front mudflaps, but I chose not to do so since the skirting protects the lower portion of the car.
For what it's worth, I looked at cheap mudflaps from different auto stores without any success. Every one I purchased looked "goofy" on the car or didn't fit well. I can't believe Subaru didn't plan on offering mudflaps for this car!
Good luck. HTH

Yeah, but I'd roll with some that had Scooby-Doo plastered on the back...
Seriously, SOA really dropped the ball by not offering mud flaps as an option. I'm debating on getting the splash guards but...if you're trolling the board, SOA, please give us some mud flaps for our WRX! Wuzzup? Maybe a stock turbo guage in future models as well?
Oh well...

Ditto!!! How can SOA be so blind?!?
| hdryv | 10-09-2001 12:24 PM |
I agree SOA should offer some mud flaps to fit both the sedan and wagon. I sent them an email asking for it and recieved a reply saying they would look into it if enough interest surfaced. So lets all start an email campaign to get this. Everyone, just go to subaru.com and send SOA an email asking for mud flaps.

:D First of all... is it just me or most of us on this thread own PSM Wagons?!?!
Okay this is just a question... does it look goofy just having the rear mudflaps on? Some protection is better than no protection unless it's at the cost of looking lame :p
For all you folks out there with OEM rear mudflaps, let's here from you.

I have only the rear mudflaps on the wagon and no, I don't think it looks goofy. Actually they kind of blend in with the black skirt and aren't particularly noticeable, IMO. I do like that they keep the rain off the back window and frankly, I hate trailing a car without mudflaps in the rain or slush because they throw all of that krap up on my car. Push SOA for WRX mudflaps.

Just another silver wagon waiting for SOA mudflaps. When and if they become available I'm in.

Here's another silver wagon owner, except I have myself a set of Krap Flaps. Here's a thread with pics if your interested:

I have just the rear flaps on my wagon. They look good, and give great protection. I came up with some creative modern art peices when I tried to fit the fronts on. I eventually decided that the front doesn't need flaps because of the black runner already kinda sticks out far enough to protect the paint from road up-chuck.
| zoomzoom | 10-10-2001 05:23 PM |
Ditto what emphorcerWRX and others said about only having rear mudflaps - they look fine. Rather pricey to pay so much just to cover the rear tires. They work very well, keeping mud, dirt, water off the back end.

The aero splashguards I think are kinda neat, though the front ones are a PITA to install-it really helps if you can get the car up on a rack. You might need to get a few new plastic grommets for the fenderwells if you are not careful removing the stock ones The splashguards were about $100 out of Canada(Specialty Motor Cars, North Vancouver, 1235 Marine Drive,North Van.BC,V7PIT3. This is what I decided to do about the flaps. I'm going to order the SOA Impreza Wagon mudflaps. We know for sure that the rears fit fine it's the fronts that are a question.
There are a number of posts out there that describe how to trace then trim/cut the OEM fronts to fit with the sideskirts installed. I figure if I screw up, I'm no worse off as the rears are in.
Purchased them from subaruparts.com for about $77 for all four.

Like hdryv says: go to the SOA web-site and let them know there is interest. I did that and got a great response back. The lady forwarded my feedback to R&D and I directed her to this web-site and this thread specifically. Feedback is tremendously important. Let them know.

Interested in Sedan mudflaps myself, I see this gravel road on my way home from work.. it just keeps calling my name, one day I will heed that call and more than likely end up in a ditch. How well to the flapes' protect your paint?
