pmartell12 10-28-2003 09:21 PM

04 sti scoop on my 02 wrx!!
What do you think? I had it airmailed from MRT in Australia. I thought it was huge at first, but I'm getting used to it.

pmartell12 10-28-2003 09:36 PM

they are on the mrt rally web page, I paid through the nose for airmail but the part is $263.00Australian and shipping was $145.00Australian.

and yes, it bolts up to the 02 USDM

MRT has retailers located in the USA i'm sure that you can find these popping up all over soon.
Uncle Ben 10-28-2003 09:38 PM

Do I even want to guess what $263 + 145 AUD = to $US/$CAD? Looks damn badass though.
cnk 10-28-2003 09:40 PM

$280 from this website:

skinart76 10-28-2003 11:57 PM

DAMN!!! That looks so sweet! I've been waiting for this since they took on the project about 3~4 months ago. Can't wait to call one of my local dealers to see when this will be available here. Thanks for the info.

I love it!! How is the fibreglass at highway speeds? The OEM STi scoop is said to shake and flap a bit.

I've never had the shaking problem. I've been up to 120 with the STI Scoop.

Props on the hood scoop!!! I was waiting for them to finish it and then I couldn't wait any longer:) Looks very nice thou!!!
dnichols 10-29-2003 08:11 AM

Sorry, I meant specifically the 04 style STi scoop. The 02-03 STi are solid.

The_Triton 10-29-2003 08:47 AM

Yea, I had heard that as well when MRT was developing them. I know that they put off selling them until they could redesign a more robust scoop. Everything else they do is great work.
KanosWRX 10-29-2003 09:12 AM

In my opinion the hood scoop on the 04 STI is the only thing that I don't really like, looks way to weird, should have kept the 02-03 style. but thats just me.
NickAUstud 10-29-2003 09:50 AM

Looks great! I would love to get one. It looks so mean!

Even my 04 WRX scoop rumbles a little bit at highway speeds, kinda worried me at first, but im used to it now.
STiWanabe 10-29-2003 12:40 PM

Definitely Looks hoTT...Maybe its just me but the scoop doesnt look as overbearingly big on the 02 as it does on the 04s.
WhiteWRX2002 10-29-2003 04:59 PM

Cool
Looks nice, but pretty darn expensive for my tastes.
4wheelflyer 10-29-2003 05:28 PM

ya that looks great, nice job , so it bolted right on, no mods just plug and play. I was thinking of putting one on my GC

@pmartell12

How does the original WRX scoop splitter fit with the scoop?

Daniel
AjIsDope 10-30-2003 03:30 AM

Looks sweet. :D A bit expensive though...
nekoball 10-30-2003 06:00 AM

have any more pictures? maybe a frontal shot? looks good.
pmartell12 10-30-2003 06:39 AM

Daniel... the factory splitter leaves a gap inside the scoop, i have to put a piece of plexiglass to get the full flow to the intercooler.

nekoball... here's some frontal shots for you.

Diversion 10-30-2003 08:20 AM

So you can remove the 04 STi scoop and it'll bolt right up to a 02-03 model without fuss? Or is this a replica 04 STi scoop that will bolt to a 02-03 ??

Jay
The_Triton 10-30-2003 08:59 AM

a replica 04 STi scoop that will bolt to a 02-03
WRX_AUSTRIA 10-30-2003 09:01 AM

You have the same problem with the gap, when you put a STI 02-03 scoop on the 02-03 WRX.
Can you post a pic how you fix this with the plexiglass, or maybe people with the STI scoop can post pics how they fixed the gap Problem.
My MRT Scoop is on the way too and I'm searching for a solution with the gap.

Daniel
Rentalpillow7 10-30-2003 08:41 PM

Sweet!!!
pmartell12 10-31-2003 05:11 PM

I might buy an sti splitter and see if it fits. it should solve the gap problem.
gerbs 11-01-2003 12:21 PM

that is SICK dude!! :) :) :)
wrx2sti 11-02-2003 09:42 AM

do they sell/have 04 STi Scoop in Carbonfibre, as my 02 engine hood & scoop is carbonfibre already?
lawn boy 11-02-2003 10:37 AM

i would love a CF 04 STi scoop
pmartell12 11-03-2003 05:58 PM

MRT does not make this scoop in carbon fibre. you could send them an e-mail and see if they are planning on making one though.
Double-R-WRX 11-03-2003 09:22 PM

Umm yeah would you be able to use a 02/03 STi Splitter or Replica w/ this?
pmartell12 11-04-2003 06:45 AM

I think the 02/03 STI splitter would work. although i'm no sure what the difference between the 02/03 STI and 04 STI height is.
Sith_Lord 11-04-2003 09:58 AM

Holy crap- I want one of these bad! I say we set up a group buy- painted!
pmartell12 11-05-2003 06:11 PM

i just did a quick fix plexi glass mod. i siliconed and screwed a piece of plexi to the factory air deflector. it will do until i get an STI splitter.
GeoffM 11-08-2003 12:40 AM

I'm in for a group buy if we can get one setup! Painted in PSM
SubaruRules 11-08-2003 01:51 AM

That looks really nice,

Good job man:banana:
pmartell12 11-10-2003 04:30 PM

GeoffM & Sith_Lord - I would get a local shop to paint it, you'll have less of a chance of damage during shipping.

SuBaRuRuLeS - Thanks
silver_rex_4eat 11-30-2003 10:57 AM

i amd own with a group buy also
Has any one checked into any of the US MRT vendors to see if they stock it or will get it? i Have been looking and waiting for someone to make this scoop for a while. How bad is teh gap? is it noticeable from outside? show pics of plexiglass mod please. I wana get one soon:banana:
twistedsymphony 12-02-2003 02:37 PM

er....

using that site I calculated

$408ASD = $298USD

without the airmail shipping

$280ASD = $204USD

still stupid expensive
but it seems more acurate if you look at the price difference in parts sold there and parts sold here. also once more of these are sold the price will go below the $200 price mark making it a more reasonably priced item.

ej20_scooby 12-02-2003 07:42 PM

love it!
0260B4U 12-02-2003 08:28 PM

Sith_Lord 12-03-2003 12:47 PM

BUMP, 'cuz I really want one of these.
Bundyboyz 12-15-2003 10:53 PM

bump just wondering the status any US vendors yet?

I'll blow some x-mas cash on this in WRB if a US vendor will do it.
