04 Tail lights on 02 WRX ??

Well , I've always like the 04/05 Tail lights over the 02/03...
So I bought a pair.... I just wanted to see what others think?
And oh yeah , any picture of this setup will be nice :)

booo noooooo it dont look good....~the different rear bumper style really makes it look off on the bugeyes~
| GuyLR | 01-06-2006 12:29 PM |
It'll work, you just need to notch the '02 bumper cover with a Dremel tool to fit the '04 tailight shape. The one I saw looked fine, sorry no pic.

the tails will fit, i don't think that u HAVE to cut your bumper to get them to work. the easiest thing to do is to go to a junkyard and find a wrecked 04 or 05 and get the taillights and bumper. the new bumper will fit back just like the old one.
| pdippel | 01-06-2006 02:31 PM |
The lights should fit fine without notching the bumper. Others have done this. I'm am just waiting for a good deal on 04 taillights.

I personally like the bugeye taillights as they are. I'm not a fan of the STi ones at all.
| subarulz! | 01-06-2006 04:01 PM |
There is some one here in portland oregon who has this done and I think it looks pretty good. There are some pictures of it in the 2.5L section. He has a shortblock and GT35R kit I think. Look around there where I believe He's thanking PDXtuning for their work.

I had the 04 taillights on my 02.Fit just fine, plus it contours w/the rear quarter panel flares.I was going for the 05 rear conversion but ran into tranny problems.I sold the lights since then and now i still have the rear 05 STi bumper.Ill probably buy some soon and finish my conversion...I say go for it :D

Well , I've seen this done is person.. and someone has taught me how to do it in minutes... without cutting the bumper or changing the bumper... Well , the guy who told me how to do this doesn't want this secret of " How to do under few minutes " to spread out..... so my mouth is shut... I want to put 04/05 taillights and put the smoked film for the upper section of this lights.. ( where the blinker stays ).. I've seen it and I think they look hot...

my friend Ky(Ikari_2000) has tailights that look just like the 04-05 tails but without the little circle thing. It is glossy and jeweled and looks REALLY sweet. He says that he got them off of ebay but cannot remember the link or the company.
| NoCalSubie | 01-06-2006 07:04 PM |
Are the 04 and 02 bumper cover interchangable (except the tail lamp problem)? What about the bumper beam, absorber and brackets, do you need to change them to fit?
| minx1225 | 01-06-2006 07:55 PM |
They are interchangeable... and for the EBAY ITEM... I'd rather stick with subaru aftermarket products or OEM products... .. So many parts you can get from subarus... either JDM or USDM...
| GoRacerXGo | 01-07-2006 02:59 AM |
I got this to work, only because I had to go custom:

This was because it was before I could find a wrecked 04 bumper and before chargespeed made a rear lip for the bugeyes to I molded everything together...

How much did you get the taillights for, minx1225?
| minx1225 | 01-07-2006 04:09 AM |
130 shipped to me.. mint condition.. well I havent received yet
| TrizzyDizzy | 01-07-2006 01:48 PM |
Actually. You can buy jsut the taillights and the bottom part will fit over the bumper. You can hardly tell its not flush. But thats the cheap route, eventually you'll want to use that dremel.

dont cut

Dont cut. Just slap on the 04's and see how you like it. Gives you the option to go back to 02 tailights. YOu can barely notice the gap. I did it on mine.

This looks great! I've been wanting to do this for about a year now with my 02 WRX but haven't had the guts to dremel the rear bumper and risk having it come out looking like dog squeeze. If its plug and play, I'm game. BTW, did you buy just the tail lamp assembly or do you need anything else?? Like an 04/05 wiring harness.

Nice whip.Looks bad azz.The tails are direct bolt on montana_slim.Wiring harness from the 04/05 STi taillights would work w/ur 02 taillight plugs.

130......

Told ya. I never liked those tails. I wouldn't even have then if I owned an STi. I would change the rear end to the bugeye style. IMHO they look the best. I'm not keen on that clear red vs refector red. The new 06' tails, forget about it. I won't even open up that book.

oHH Well. Live and learn my friend. Usually all you need to do is just modify what you already have. I was considering pulling apart my tails and painting the back part that is normally chrome black instead. It would look similar to smoking the tails. The only difference is there is no reflective material in back. I have an extra set I'm gonna play with. I wanted to be different but I don't necesarily like tinted tails. They usually are too dark for my taste as well. I had a set of OEM accord tails on my last car when euros were popular. I pulled those apart and modified them to be black on the inside. They were sick and I still have never seen a pair like them. I understand that you wanted a change but sometimes you already have the best looking part and just haven't figured out what to do with it.

on the blue car it looks like the lights were made for that bumper

i just think the 04-05 lgihts look bad ass... the only thing that im not too crazy about is how the little piece of metal on the sides gets covered up. other then that, i think its sweeeeeeeettt :D
| minx1225 | 01-10-2006 06:20 PM |
hmmm... I'm really rethinking about the whole tailights... so many people want them now...
| mannslayer | 06-20-2006 09:05 PM |
i just did the mod on my 02 bugeye, and i've noticed they seem to stick out a tad and arent flush with the trunk. i just made a small notch in the bumper (plastic or whatever) not the metal underneath. do i need to dremel that metal piece out too? looks good otherwise!
| WRXDriftR | 06-20-2006 09:48 PM |
i think the 04 lights look best

UPDATE: I got 04 STi rear bumper and tail lights on my bugeye and I love them!!
I won't go back to 02 lights....!!!
