I don't follow, I don't race (yet), I just turned the channel and saw it so I thought I'd let ya'll know. Don't chastise me if it's old news :)
somebody else 03-18-2006 12:08 PM

Yep! I'm fully tuned in on the big-screen with surround sound.

Love the Corvette/Aston battle. Love the new Porsche LMP2. Love the new Audi. Love the battle in GT2.

I've got a bottle of Aston Martin racing green paint waiting for my 1:24 resin kit of last year's Lw Mans car to arrive.
jpsimon 03-18-2006 12:39 PM

ah thank you! forgot this was gunna be on
ChrisL2 03-18-2006 01:01 PM

And now they take a break for NASCAR...
doghauler 03-18-2006 02:16 PM

I signed up for the $6 onboard pass from speed to keep up with the coverage while nascar whores it up. Woo-Hoo! It is pretty cool! The camera views don't always match what the box says, and it's streaming, so pic quality isn't 100%, but it is fun switching between the different cars/classes. The in car audio isn't running, but alms radio is good.
saloonracer 03-18-2006 02:57 PM

Audi TDi
DIESEL POWER!! haha you gotta hand to Audi being the only team out there doing something like this. I think theyr having some trouble with the #1 car but we donno since Audi dropped the tent shades and taped the onboard camera.

I hope they figure out what goes on with the #1 car. It would be great if the Diesels stay as campetive as they did with the regular race motors. Not like those motors in the R8's were "regular"...haha

cheers
John__Gotti 03-18-2006 03:25 PM

I don't see why the audi's won't be there. The only thing like all new cars is reliablity. If they can get by without too many issues they will take the checkered. This was the cars first race and they scored a poll and 2nd in qualifing so that is a good sign. That car is putting down so much torque it must be just a monster to handle once the tire grip starts to go.
Protege Menace 03-18-2006 08:25 PM

I was watching it during my break at work here.

Whats the deal with the blue lights on the cars? and why do the cameras need 4 point star filters on them

MattSTi 03-18-2006 08:33 PM

Wow, they removed, rebuilt, and installed the tranny on one of the c6-r's in 31 minutes.

Audi's TDI R10 looks great out there!

what.

I dont watch any form of racing besidesw rally, so i don't know why they have blue lights.

and the star filter was becoming annoying....

Oh, sorry

I guess I'm just used to the lighting (although annoying) from watching the Rolex series. I guess they have those filters because the lights are just THAT bright. I suppose the blue has superior seeing power at night.

 Heck, after thinking about it, I really don't know why they have those things either.
Protege Menace 03-18-2006 08:45 PM

the star filter isnt to cut down on brightness, all it does is create those crappy photoshop style flares ;)

and there are blue lights on the sides of cars or facing forwards on the sideview mirrors
TyrannoSullyRex 03-18-2006 09:22 PM

The lights on the sides of the cars denote class position, 1 light for first, etc.
saloonracer 03-18-2006 09:42 PM

little over an hour to go and the diesel car is looking good. I wonder what they were thinking when they send out a car with what, 800 something lbs/ft of torque on two wheels and no traction control. Now if that R10 was in a Quattro setup....would be interresting.

Other car I like is the new F430 Berlinetta(sp)??

cheers
spooln04 03-18-2006 10:28 PM

hope the r10 can hold on, looks like they will, 16 minutes to go. c6-r is looking strong also..
Achilles38WRX 03-18-2006 10:33 PM

i think Audi would still win if they entered a car powered by an old aircooled vw motor.
spooln04 03-18-2006 10:35 PM

I can't believe how quite the TDI is. That thing is nasty.
spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:39 PM

oh, go aston, go aston!!!!!!

beat that vette!!!

I think that Audi did a great job with the TDI, and I'm a little worried about the RS spyders and their reliability. I think porsche could have done better.
spooln04 03-18-2006 10:41 PM

go 007!!! go aston go aston...
spooln04 03-18-2006 10:42 PM

3 minutes...
spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:43 PM

this is an amazing fight!!!
spooln04 03-18-2006 10:44 PM

yea that v12 is pulling the vette in the straights..
spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:45 PM

yup, thank god, cuz the tires on the astons SUCK! see the vette pull all the way up to him on the last corner!
spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:45 PM

1 lap!
spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:46 PM

wow, i didnt think it would turn out like this!! i wonder how the ferrari is doing
spooln04 03-18-2006 10:47 PM

Congrats to the Audi TDI
spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:49 PM

WOW what a finish!!
LMP1: Audi TDI
LMP2: lola something
GT1: Aston Martin, followed by a vette (really good fight)
GT2: PANOZ!!!

spooln04 03-18-2006 10:52 PM

spazegun2213 03-18-2006 10:55 PM
Aston Martin didn't win. Corvette took GT1 class win, 3rd overall.
yea, the offical stats say the vette took 3rd over all and that the aston took 4th, but thats NOT how it happened.. i know.. i saw it happen!!!

EDIT
OOPS, that fight was for 6th, thats funny though, they said it was for 3rd!!!

stupid anouncers!!

Read my post again.
http://www.imsaracing.net/2003/lt/ltc.html

#4 Vette finished first in GT1 class, 3rd overall
#009 Aston was second in GT1 class, 4th overall
#007 Aston was third in GT1 class, 6th overall
#3 Vette was fourth in GT1 class, 7th overall

#2 Audi R10 took overall victory, P1 class--#37 Lola took took P2 class, 2nd overall.

They have overall rankings and class rankings in sports car racing. The battle between the #007 Aston and #3 Vette during the final laps was for the final spot on the GT1 podium.

Oh yeah, #50 Panoz took GT2. I'm really happy about that one. :)
John__Gotti 03-18-2006 10:58 PM

Audi does it again. They are just unstopable when it comes to prototype endurance racing. And this time with a TDI power machine. Also I thing Aston took second and third in GT1.
Chiketkd 03-18-2006 11:37 PM

Huge congrats to Audi's TDI prototype race car!!! Amazing victory!

That final fight for 3rd and 4th place in GT1 between the V12 Aston Martin and Max Papis in the Corvette was superb! I so wanted Max to pass that Aston...
CirrusWRX 03-19-2006 12:00 AM

I wanted the audi to do well to push diesel into the limelight. w00t!

I wanted the lola to win because it has a cool chick on the team, and more women in motorsports = good thing IMO. w00t!

I wanted the new ferrari to win cause it looked lonely out there, alas, 3rd in class (not bad; a podium for its first time out!) oh well, I was 2 for 3.

There were some FANTASTIC races out there today and some excellent driving. I love ALMS, I just usually end up missing it when it's on, but got to TiVo it all today.
flyboymike 03-19-2006 01:07 AM

Shame about the Penske Porsche's. I bet with some testing and a less jarring track, they'll do well at Le Mans. All those prototypes, though... so gorgeous.
CirrusWRX 03-19-2006 12:37 PM

FYI - I heard a Hyatt (the hotel people, note their name on the side of those Porsche's) make the following comment which made me giddy like a school girl. When asked by Speed, "Mr. SoAndSo of Hyatt marketing, why motorsports? Why endurance racing?"

His response:

"Oh that's easy, MOTORSPORTS is the new golf."

I knew you guys wouldn't let me down I only tivo'd the 1st 2.5 hrs. thanks for the results.

Hey guys. I know the Porsche Super Cup season started up not too long ago. Does anybody know where to find torrents because SpeedTV doesn't cover Porsche Super Cup until the season is over.
RaceComp Engineering 03-20-2006 08:17 AM

I was there and the I can tell you first hand that the AUDI's are not even as loud as the AUDI pace car when it goes by !!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY !! You hear the turbo's more than anything else and even that is very quiet.

Best sounding car was by far the Aston Martin's....it has a high pitched schrill type sound kinda like the old Ferrari 333SP' s had. The Porsche's also sounded very, very good as well.

The while in the pits we were behind the Binnie's LOLA and it was sooooo sweet to smell the race fuel and hear the rev limiter as they leave the pits.

Most some of us the ONLY time we are happy is when we are at the track or in the car.

Congrats to the Clint Field / Intersport Lola winning the P2. That's why I love endurance racing...sorry, Porsche...

Good for Audi R10...BUT, I just don't like 'em...never going to get me excited about diesel racing...EVER.

Good try from Kelleners and the F430 debut...Oh, how I wanted the win....

Myles, Aston's are sweet...the Maranello's WERE sweeter...

See you at Rd Atl I hope....

I heard that too! I almost fell out of my chair. Golf = mad boring(unless your playing it) I honestly wonder why people go watch golf. Anywho that was very funny.

flyboymike,

I guess we'll have to see how the Porsche's do on fuel consumption/economy at Le Mans...V8 + 9or10k rpm = lots of gas, lots of stops, lots of pit-time. (a blatant generalization here, granted)

Pescarolos were something like 6-8 seconds per lap faster than the "ole R8's" last year at LeSarthe and, well...economy ruled the 24 hour day in P1 in 2005.

I'll bet P2 pans out the same way in 2006...everything else being equal.

I, however, couldn't be more happy that Porsche has entered the fray with a P2. I hope that prototype racing remains healthy for a long time.

The Marketing Guru's were funny...but don't knock it of course. The more ad/marketing money that roles in, the more ALMS grows...that's the cash that gets the cars/teams we love to see, over here racing.

I hope they start believing motorsports is the new EVERYTHING. Pour it in Corporate America !!!!

TyrannoSullyRex 03-20-2006 12:48 PM

I wonder if ALMS or Automobile Club De Louest (for LeMans) will "equalize" the diesel cars by requiring a restrictor or something (or a smaller one if it already has one).
