Those are pretty sweet.
| Leonardo | 08-12-2006 10:30 AM |
I'm guessing that's an option over there PLUS we have the huge bumper beam for USDOT spec.
| ST0ICH | 08-12-2006 11:37 AM |
That's cool.
| homer227 | 08-12-2006 11:39 AM |
I'll take two. I believe it comes on the WRX's in South America.
| littledrummerboy | 08-12-2006 11:57 AM |
it's also on the Aussie spec wrx...
i wish i had that too; that would be very useful during winter

that doesnt look like it would do anything.

Yeah - shouldn't it have a wiper to sweep away the road dirt/grime to be more effective?

it will take the layer of grime right off the lens in the winter (would be much nicer than having to pull into a rest stop or the side of the road and use snow...) - personally, I wouldn't want a wiper since the crud which gets on the lens is usually full of dirt which would scratch the hell out of the lens

the euro standard is that all hid equipped vehicles MUST have washers. i have already begun my quest to get the whole system from the uk.

sweet, good luck with that, and be sure to get some vids and pix if you do get it.
i know a lot of euro cars have them even in the us.

I can't imagine that these would be THAT difficult to have fab'ed? I was thinking of this the other night after driving a Mercedes S500 and playing with the headlight washers for like 2 minutes straight.
| im imprezd | 08-12-2006 08:39 PM |
im sure its high pressured..same like the audi's...so no need for the wipers
| Dynobyte | 08-13-2006 12:21 AM |
that bumper in that video is shorter/snubbier than the USDM bumper, right?

Yeah, the S4 I just traded in had them and they had pressure to spare. They worked well with our winters having sand on the roads during snows. Just washed it right away. But....the pump needed to be replaced as it was leaking at the reservoir. How much you say? A mere one thousand, installed. My ass was sore for quite a while.

that snub nose looks so cool.
I bet it would cost a lot to get that bumper/bumper beam/etc. Sigh.
I mean, if you get into an accident then you need to fix the bumper anyway. 5mph bumper give me a break.

I'm thinking it is the same as a USDM Impreza. I could be wrong but the video looks like a 16:9 frame squeezed into a 4:3 frame. Under the skin the bumper beam may be different but it looks the same as a USDM Impreza... see attached (my car in California.)

Yes they look the same. I was thinking it was different a la the Legacy jdm front bumper yadda yadda.
| Wannascooby | 08-14-2006 03:55 AM |
Wow, that looks pretty weird to me. Looks useless unless that is hot water or there are wipers hidden somewhere.

I remember playing with that thing on a volvo S40 rental and it really does work, and is totally cool to look at! :)

You know, I should refocus my efforts from getting these parts from Peru...I think it would be cheaper and would be easier than trying to talk to them English people...I like sleeping...

so far, the estimate i have is about a grand... but i am trying to translate from spanish to see what the part actually is and if i need it or if it can be sourced locally. the squirters , pump and res. are pretty pricey.

when did the wrx become a luxury car?

Hmm.. i'm going to look as well. I'm thinking of tapping into the current reservoir would be enough, the squirters and pump's are a different story..
Try out http://babelfish.altavista.com/ for any translation purposes. All I do is copy paste into the box and it'll 'roughly' translate it.
Heck any AWD car to me is considered as luxury.. but subaru is the top! =)

Its not for the luxury factor. Its for the I'm such a lazy butt that I don't want to get out when it's snowing to clean my HID headlights and I want something to pop up and clean it for me. When I lived in Alaska, I would have to stop to clean my headlights in the middle of a snow storm or when there was a lot of powder flying around...how sucky...

Haha.. I wanted to get a SUV so I wouldnt' have to dig out of my parking spot after a snowstorm at 4am in the morning! lol.. but then said "bahh.. I'll just get a subaru with a carstarter".. only thing now is to install flame throwers so it'll melt the snow before I arrive @ my car =)

Your bumpers are the same as our USDM ones? Have foam reinforcement in those bumpers (or are they a thinner foam / aka japan spec?)
Think you can get the part numbers from subaru for us?? LOL!

thanks, very neat litltle mod for the future (good for our winters and slush!)
| elsanto | 08-30-2006 04:48 PM |
there are aftermarket companies that make heated washers for your regular sprayers, i can't imagine it'd be that tough to rig them to spray the headlights instead or as well.
| littlewhitewagon | 08-30-2006 04:55 PM |
you could...but a pop up squirter that looks like it is jizzing on your headlight is cooler.

Bringing this thread back, I am interested in setting something like this up on my 06, has any one figured out all the parts you need and cost, has any one actualy tried this yet? I am getting tired of pulling over to clean my headlights every time it warms up to 30* and the roads turn to slush.
| jezzy | 12-06-2006 02:27 PM |
It's available in Australia.
I know you'll need a new front bumper, and I'm wondering if a new front bumper reinforcement will also be required (any special clearances required for the popup nozzels..etc..)
This will be certainly a mod to do down the road.. I wish there was an add-on kit we can do ! Simply cut the hole, pop in the pop-ups',etc..

Man $1000 to wash your headlights...that money must really be burning a hole in your pockets.

bringing this thread back from the dead :)
has anyone tried to do this mod yet?
This guy's done something similar in his 98-01 impreza: http://www.scoobymods.com/mods/impreza/headlampwasher.php
I'm really interested in doing this with my wagon. I will be going to Peru in a month... maybe I could look into getting some nozzles? Does anyone have the part numbers?
