Where the hell is the Peru NT thread?
Guess what! This is it (I hope, otherwise I'll get 10 DIAF noobs  )

I'll be there thursday night, gotta get in some practice on the concrete and compare it to the normally slippery asphalt of my local SCCA club.

Hope to see some of you there!

Cancelled my entry on Monday. No car for Tour or Pro means that $$$ needed to buy a ride goes towards the Pro. <shrug>

Have fun. Let us know if the courses suck again this year, like they have every year I've been there (2000-2005).

I've been looking for this thread! Wow, it's boring.

See ya there. Yep grippy, bumpy, bumpy, Grissom. I'm bringing my weed wacker, and roundup. :D

I'll be there Fri. by 1:00.
SloRice 05-24-2006 09:01 AM

I liked last years course, Karen. I just had a tough time remembering all of it becuase it was almost 3 times longer than anything I've ever raced (~65-75 seconds).

I'm leaving my place at 7am, so I'm hoping to be pulling in around 1pm, throw the big tires on, get a few practice runs and then find out I have to roll the piss out of my front fenders.
crystalhelix 05-24-2006 09:20 AM

Baseball bat, I told you to bring one..

Maybe I was biased last year. After all, I worked seven heats a day and one of my cars almost lost a wheel when the three day old front hub broke so I had to spend an extra night in Kokomo.

But wasn't last year one of the "let's just change the entry to the slaloms and call it a different course" episodes?

Karen
SloRice 05-24-2006 11:25 AM

I'm pretty sure they ran the course backwards last year. They did change a lot of it though for Sunday to shorten it up. Saturday's course was just way to long. I remember being there till almost dark on Saturday because the racing went so long during the day, then they changed the course and I walked it a couple times.

WTLY noob :p ;)

Anyway, Peru sucks. Or, more accurately, I suck at Peru :) I still can't believe I got talked into the Pro. The entry list was just too hard to ignore :D Or at least it was, Joel :p At least there is the Hugger. Have fun at the Tour, all.

I think it was still one of my favorite set of courses and best National Event i've been to. I loved the course, the pavement, and dare I say loved driving a honda for the first time with Amy Wagner? Too bad I managed to start it all off on the wrong foot getting a speeding ticket less than a mile from the event site on the main drag on friday evening. I'll definately go back up there if I get the chance.

I just happened to buy tickets for Lime Rock ahead of time and forgot about this event being that weekend. So, i'll take a raincheck for this year but will hopefully be there next year.

*ahem* They were my courses last year. John Thomas get them this year (I get the Pro next week).

Wasn't a change the slaloms and call it good. We did run it backwards (and I designed them to be run both ways).
PhilC 05-24-2006 04:50 PM

I liked last year's courses for the Tour. Other than some issues with not thinking about my picked out "look at cones" having the view blocked by the weeds when my head is two feet lower than it is while walking I thought it was one of the best set of courses for me to find clear and simple things to look ahead for.

I think Peru has some sort of jinx for us. Sliced radiator hose, broken windshield, general suckage on my part, each at different events there last year. Hopefully we've gotten that out of our systems and will have good results this year.

We're skipping the tour, in fact we're skipping tours entirely this year, but we'll be there for the Pro next weekend.

Eff concrete, and eff spending $Texas when I can run Road Atlanta for $75 that same weekend
I think Peru has some sort of jinx for us.
Plus, the first time we ran at Peru, it was a Pro. I had someone cross over from their course over onto my course. Luckily, it was L2 and they were in a faster car (and I was sucking) and so they crossed over in front of me and not into me. Also, thankfully I noticed in time and got it stopped quick. Let's hope this Peru Pro goes better than the other Peru trips in the past.

I believe it was the same event where I took the start, looked away from the tree, to see a certain subaru careening back up the front slolam straight at me :)

Congrats to Billy Brooks for winning STX, Justin Rothermel for winning BSP and myself for winning SM.

Also, a BIG thanks to Justin for letting me drive his car is SM. Without him, I would have been sitting there all weekend doing absolutely nothing. I know I've probably said it enough times, but thank you!! I wish I could have driven my car to see how it would have done, but siht happens.....now I have to find out what the problem is. :furious:

I couldn't just let you sit on your ass after paying and driving all that way. ;) Karma comes around..

BSP action between the M3 driven by Beranek and myself was some of the best competition I've had as far as constantly switching around who was leading. In the end Beranek had me by raw on his last run but snagged a cone. Everyone was really friendly and it just really pushed me to the next level.

Fun times!
Congrats guys. Those are big wins against good competition.
Thanks.

I actually talked to Tak while I was there and I guess the EVO isn't ready yet so they raced in another class (CSP?). The other EVO had good drivers but one of them could only make it on Sunday. It looks like they could have given me a run for my money.

Overall I think I realize that on concrete or larger courses I could definatly use more tire. The problem is at local events on the typically slippery asphalt it takes me 3 runs just to get heat into 275's. I could have used 315's at Peru, no doubt, after 2nd runs I needed to spray the front tires down a bit to bring the temps down.

Looking forward (hopefully) to seeing more of the "top guns" at the DC pro to see how I stack up, lol. I just need my roomie (sloRice) to fix his car, again. Which I hope ends up being something he can repair easily.

AUTOwrXER 05-30-2006 01:47 PM

Tak and Lieber have been done with the IX for a while now, except that they are waiting on the Ohlins coilovers to arrive. Apparently there is a nationwide holdup on those, and they are in a holding pattern. The car is strong, however. They ran a 12.0 1/4 mile in testing. Because of the delays they plan to skip the ProSolo series, but they will be a top contender for the national championship.

Yeah, John and Andrew were running CSP, Andrew with Steve Mieritz and John with Raleigh Boreen. Evidently, John was having some problems adjusting to the Miata, as his Saturday runs were cone, cone and DNF. Guess it turns in a little faster than he was anticipating... :D

The "other Evo" is the former Lieber/Tak car, now owned by Frank and Aaron Miller. Aaron's job is stupid, and he never knows if he's going to have to work on Saturday until about 2 days before. It sucks, because he's a good driver, but he rarely gets to show it. That's the car I'll be driving next weekend at the Pro, so I am happy to hear that the car looks fast. ;)

If Aaron didn't tag some cones on Sunday he had some serious cruise missle times, the thing is uber fast. Pretty sure he would have contended for 1st if he made Saturday. I wondered about that. It looks a lot more plain without the graphics, lol.
