uhhh I live in NJ and have a tint, as do most of my friends. You can tint everything as dark as you want, as long as it's the rear windows

400? thats barely enough for booze and hookers...... id suggest you save it. yeah it would be nice to get little things 1 by 1, but that equals wasted wrench time, and its cold outside. i find it easier to do mods in stages, not even big stages but work on areas of the car and do as much as your budget will allow. sure 400 will get you some nifty things but performance wise ur limited to used parts. if you are doing the installs yourself id say go for it, but if not, i would wait to actually make paying for an install worth it. while sways and endlinks make a huge difference in handling, there goes your 400bucks. id go for some interior mods, and im not sure how good the new speakers are stock or if you're even into sound. guess its hard to tell you what to do since its your car and you know what you want out of it. wow, got longwinded. hope i made some since [/post]

If you don't have springs, GET THEM! The wheel gap looks terrible. You could do every other modification possible, but if there's still that wheel gap, it wont look good.

hrmm...i thought i read that springs w/o properly matched struts are iffy. but i'm so noob i could easily be wrong. that is beside the point. i'm in the same boat with you kxf. same sort of budget and the initial desire for more power and some spiffed up looks. so here is my plan:
1. take a week or two and peruse this site (as well as rs25.com). there is a ton of useful information, a lot of it stickied. unabombers comprehensive faq compilation should be bookmarked by everyone who is new to subarus or car modding in general. after doing a lot of reading and lurking i came to the conclusion that if i wanted more power, i.e. go faster, then the first thing i needed to do was to start addressing the suspension.
therefore:
2. get thee a rear sway bar. 2.5s come with 13mm stock (i think). make the jump up to 17mm at least. this is the first thing i did and the difference is astounding. it's funny how the car doesn't feel like it lacks "go-juice" now that the understeer is lessened. you can get a 17mm or 20mm for $40-$50 used off of the classified ads. you cannot go wrong with doing this first and it's cheap cheap cheap.
3. if you want to improve handling some more get a pair of front ($100) and rear ($100) endlinks (from perrin, kartboy, or whiteline) and your scooby will feel much more responsive and planted. the end result being increased confidence in attacking corners and bends at speed = faster car.
4. but if your butt dyno is aching for some 'oomph then perhaps a lighter pully (perrin, cobb) for around $130 + install is what you want. a cold air intake is a mod that even the most clueless can install themselves. ganzflow cai is around $120 and you can spend all the way up to $260 for a cobb or injen.
and there you go. i just spent all of your money plus some. now your scooby will handle better with less understeer and you've increased your hp to boot. if you hold off on the front endlinks and find a way to install everything yourself it comes out perfect. now you're all set up for the next stage (i.e stuff that costs from $600-$1200), coil-overs or new headers + full exhaust.
hope this helps and remember to pillage the forums here, it's always best to look before leaping.
ps - tinting my windows was the first thing i did when i got my 02 obs. had to do it ;)
oh and grillcraft has a grill kit that looks pretty sweet for around $170ish

wrx painted sides and tint. Or save some extra moneys and get a strut and spring package/ sways/strut bars, I'm very happy that I completely modded my suspension best mods I've made to date. They are noticeable!

dont waste ur money on a 2.5 non turbo car...seriously...just use it to get from point a to b, keep it well maintained and clean...save up for a real car to dump your money into...personally if i saw someone with a non turbo wrx hooking it up id think, "uhhh...whats the point, you can downshift it on the highway while im just going to floor it in 5th and pull from you in my 01 jdm swapped rs"...dont hook something up thats slow as balls...no offense but its a waste of money ;] 400 bux will get u no where as far as speed...and like i said before "dont hook up something with looks if its slow" then u will be labeled as a ricer...not trying to knock you here, just dont waste your money on useless stuff b/c u will regret it...maybe suspension might be a good thing b/c a good handling car is always a +...but if u insist on giving it looks, keep it subtle and sleek...if ur going to lower it, dont go too low...just an inch anda half or so...i always tell people that if ur going to hook up a slow car and rice it out, u might as well be mexican too...b/c thats what they do around here...they hook up REALLY SLOW cars and then it looks twice as slow plus makes a lot of really unnecessary noise
p.s. why dont you just sell ur newer model rs for an older model and do an engine swap...much faster...looks better imo, and well...u dont have to do much to it b/c factory it looks great, but then again you will probably end up spending the same amount on doing that as what you got that model for...if not more b/c mods are definitely fun when messing with turbo ;]
look at the bright side, a jdm swapped pre-01rs is faster than a stock wrx and definitely compares to an sti in speed...with every bolt on possible on a stock jdm swapped motor, ur beating sti's

Wow you guys are alot of help. The guy has a imprezza and this is an imprezza forum right ? There is alot of upgades for the 2.5i . I would rather have a new 2.5i to mod than an old 1999 shot out RS. At least the guy with the outback has some good input.

You can either get some suspension and a few bolt ons and enjoy what you have or be like this guy and run around being a douche. I've seen well setup rs's outhandling wrx's. Its your car and do whatever you like with it.
Some people aren't blessed with money like others so they make due with what they have. You can make your car handle like a dream and add a lil extra power to boot.:)

just for your information mr mexican...hispanics around here know nothing about hooking up cars and well, they also dont know english (if i need to...i will take pictures of how they ruin vehicles here so u can be ashamed of your own kind..otherwise keep your mouth shut) so for you to try and back a population of people u know nothing about in this region makes u just as ignorant...granted, there are some mexicans that have a refined taste and style, but those are the black sheep out of the rest of them(west coast hispanics do have good taste but them compared to NC mexicans is like going to beverly hills and seeing the rich ritzy folk - then drive past a trailer park) btw the black sheep are the few that have migrated from california...audio is always a plus in a car b/c its not about looks or speed, its about sound and no1 can put u down if YOU like the way your car sounds...i guess that goes for looks but not so much for speed b/c ppl are going to wax someone with only a 400$ upgrade...and ur not gonna get much but a decent head unit for 400 bux...looks on the other hand can be criticized very easily unless u keep it clean and simple so people have nothing bad to say...but with 400 bux yet again...you cant do much...except for bulbs and clear turn signals, corners, etc, maybe even some jdm tail lights...
u couldnt smoke crap...btw, ur 18 and u have had ur license for a maximum of 2 years...so dont tell me how u can smoke me b/c u probably dont even know how to powershift or double clutch...not to mention, im stereotyping a bit..but you probably didnt even pay for the car you own...even though you "say" you pay for everything

just for your information mr mexican...hispanics around here know nothing about hooking up cars and well, they also dont know english (if i need to...i will take pictures of how they ruin vehicles here so u can be ashamed of your own kind..otherwise keep your mouth shut) so for you to try and back a population of people u know nothing about in this region makes u just as ignorant...granted, there are some mexicans that have a refined taste and style, but those are the black sheep out of the rest of them(west coast hispanics do have good taste but them compared to NC mexicans is like going to beverly hills and seeing the rich ritzy folk - then drive past a trailer park) btw the black sheep are the few that have migrated from california...audio is always a plus in a car b/c its not about looks or speed, its about sound and no1 can put u down if YOU like the way your car sounds...i guess that goes for looks but not so much for speed b/c ppl are going to wax someone with only a 400$ upgrade...and ur not gonna get much but a decent head unit for 400 bux...looks on the other hand can be criticized very easily unless u keep it clean and simple so people have nothing bad to say...but with 400 bux yet again...you cant do much...except for bulbs and clear turn signals, corners, etc, maybe even some jdm tail lights...
u couldnt smoke crap...btw, ur 18 and u have had ur license for a maximum of 2 years...so dont tell me how u can smoke me b/c u probably dont even know how to powershift or double clutch...not to mention, im stereotyping a bit..but you probably didnt even pay for the car you own...even though you "say" you pay for everything
also i dont auto x my car b/c it does damage to it, i like to keep it clean and pristine...plus i could care less even if u could beat me b/c ive already lost to a supra by massive amounts of car lengths in just 2 gears, so you wouldnt be able to degrade me anymore than he did, trust me :lol:
p.s. the funny part is, it was my buddy in his supra and he still made me feel bad even though we both knew he would from the start, it was to see just how BAD he really would beat me...i hope you never come across one b/c he will make u want to throw ur car in the garbage...especially if u have spent thousands of dollars in it (which im sure u havent):lol: just to see something like that completely obliterate you
