No exhaust is the best. Just pull off everything after the turbo, trust me!

After much searching I had almost bought a Borla single tip and wa going to paint the muffler body black so it looked just like the stock exhaust but my main concern with this set up was the noise.
After much debate I came across the new RS-R ExMag system that looked like the perfect solution so what I was looking for. It will be here tomorrow so I will report back once it is installed but I think that it is the best of both worlds. Looks damn near stock, flows very well and is one of the quietest on the market.

basically all i wanna hear is a greddy on a wrx video or sound clip. also what do u think that topic is called?
| xdream | 10-02-2005 07:52 PM |
ok i narrowed down my choices to these
1 - invidia g200 it looks awesome but i dont really like the sound it makes. to domestic sounding.
2- hks hi-power looks not 2 good and kinda sounds like a fart can
3- greddy evo just know from experience on a rsx and civic but havent seen a video with it on wrx. i drove a wrx with a greddy once but dont really remember what it was like
which would u choose. and why!

hks carbon ti...hands down.
whoever says it sounds like a fart cannon = deaf
wrx's don't sound like fart cannons, you musta confused it with a rsx =D
...unless you remove the headers, i suppose, which you gotta be stupid to do for just a mere 4-5 horsepower =D

oh and...don't look at videos for how exhausts sound....trust me, i've seen all the videos and compared them to exhausts in person (at local meets), COMPLETELY different
videos give an IDEA, but not the complete picture

i agree i have the hks carbon ti on mine and i LOVE it. and putting a exhaust on a wrx CANT make it sound like a fart can. even if u weld on a muffler ( which ive seen) it still has the boxer rumble.

well thx for the advice.
i would really want to see the hks in person. or if u guys can just make some real good videos of the outside, and outside drive bys.
the one i liked the best was the helix.
im just thinking of getting the invidia g200 and get a helix up and down pipe. is that a good idea and whats a up and down pipe for?

The greddy evo2 is pretty much the quietest exhaust out there. If you go catless it will be louder than stock but nothing that will draw too much attention from the cops.
The domestic sound that you hear is actually the flat four sound which is caused by the unequal length headers. If you get equal length headers the boxer rumble will disappear. I've heard wrx's with equal length headers and personally I think it sounds more refined rather than "ricey".

how bout going with something sleak and clean like the stromung 3" dual-tip exhaust? it's sorta quiet with the stock cats but when you add a catless downpipe and uppipe it really shows it's colors.
i've had mine for about a month and i couldn't be happier, best exhaust for the wrx imo. :)

I was in the same issue with my 2005 WRX, and after reading how the catback version of the HKS Carbon TI was the best performance wise, it led me to it.
And by the way, another vote goes for the Carbon TI sound...... I think HANDS DOWN that it is the BEST WRX exhaust sound. It just brings out the natural grumble of the boxer engine.... you wont get this unique grumble on any other car without a boxer engine. HKS does modify it slightly for other cars, but it is generally the same exhaust..... except on the WRX is it unique.
Check it out at the HKS website.... they have a video/sound clip of the WRX on the "Hi-Power" exhaust....... the Carbon TI is almost identical to the Hi-Power, but is really sweet looking..... they sound almost identical. Hi-Power is painted steel(will rust), compared to the Carbon TI (Carbon fiber and Titianium, and is stainless steel).
And as far as looks goes, HKS Carbon Ti again to me is HANDS DOWN the best looking exhaust on the WRX. With carbon fiber wrapping(what other exhaust has that!?!?), and a blue tip, it is absolutely awesome looking.
I was in the same situation looking for a great sounding catback for my 2005 WRX, and I think the Carbon Ti is absolutely the best exhaust out there for the WRX. Even down to the angle it comes out of your car, it looks incredible.
Check it out.

I think the STi Genome is the nicest looking and sounding exhaust, but you definitely pay for it ($600 plus axleback!!)
| hlanderr | 10-03-2005 09:49 PM |
Also, as just a catback, the exhaust is NOT that loud at all. In fact, I think it is perfect. You definetly hear it, and with the windows down it sounds awesome. With the windows up it is a bit muffled, and with music on it can be hard to hear.
But having a loud exhaust is very obnoxious.
Put a downpipe and an uppipe with that combo, and I've heard stories how this exhaust will RUMBLE. It takes the hearty deep tone to the next level.
HKS also sells a silencer for this exhaust, which is huge. Driving in the city like I do often might get me into trouble once I get my downpipe/uppipe combo goin.
The exhaust is expensive for a catback (around 750), but is worth EVERY DOLLAR, really. AMAZING. I have NOT FOUND ONE owner that I can remember that I have read about that didn't like this exhaust. They all absolutely drooled when they got it. And don't think I didn't look through a lot of places to find this out.
