Anyone else love the new 307 ?

Don't flame on me but I love the look of the new peugot 307 WRC anyone else agree with me? CHRIS.......

I like the looks of the 307...it seems like they are having some growing pains with the car (power steering). They have a 4spd gearbox(odd selection) but watching the Rally Sweden they were faster on the long straights.
Mitsu on the other hand...

No. It looks like a Chevy Monte Carlo... blech

4spd ??? I bet that takes the drivers some getting used to. It looks bad, not as bad as the mitsu... its sad to say that the impreza is one of the better looking cars now.

Yep...4spd...the team principal said it was to make up time usually spent on gearchanges. Didn't look like it helped in Monte Carlo (top speed seemed hampered by the trans) but it looks like they sorted the problem out for Sweden.
I think this year is going to be very tightly contested...

It looks better in real life. Much better. I expect Marcus to take Finland, its a good loose surface car.

I love WRC (even for all its faults) due to the fact that they don't have to suck up to sponsors and the drivers just plain kick @$$. Team orders stink but what can you do? I question Ford for making Duvall pull over in Monte Carlo...then using another driver to score points in Sweden.
Sorry for the OT

They actually homologated two gear boxes for the 307. A 5spd sequential and a 4spd sequential. The 4spd is mainly for tarmac events, according to Peugeot, while the 5spd is to be used mainly for the gravel events.
They ran the 4spd in Monte Carlo, and I'm about 90% sure they used the 5spd in the Swedish.
EDIT: I just checked, and they opted for the 4spd again (which doesn't really make sense because the Swedish usually has really high top speeds).
I'm certian they will use the 5spd in Mexico though (unless they are just going to scrap the 5spd altogether)

I also think it is ugly and looks like a chevy Monte Carlo.

I like the 307...
Not at fist sight for sure but it slowly grew on me.
However this newly "re-designed" Lancer is for some reason very ugly IMHO.
I have really liked all the previous Lancers...but my gosh, this one is terrible. That wing throw off the looks, as well as the complete front end.

i think the 307 is ugly as sin, and i think they are having some issues getting it were they want it.
I was really surprised to hear that Loix is thinking about biting the bullet so soon, especially with the problems they have had running the car.....
oh well

My $.02.
Looks like they test drove it through the ugly forest and hit every tree along the way.

I don't think that its ugly, just kind of boring looking and not very aggresive. I liked the 206 a lot more.

neither love nor hate, just another race car, which having said that is always a good thing
| rexxer | 02-09-2004 01:03 PM |
I like it... my gf thought it was a Monte Carlo as well... it is WAY too long in my opinion for rally. In Monte Carlo (not the car... the rally) on those amazing roads on the sides of cliffs, the back end of the car looked like it was going to get wedged between the guard rail and the cliff when the front end started to go around a corner.

the old 206 was much better looking. while the old car looked like a sporty hatchback, this 307 looks like a big sedan or something.
| nKoan | 02-09-2004 03:20 PM |
The 307 is only about a foot longer. The 206 WRC is 4.005 meters long and the 307 WRC is 4.344 meters long (with the Impreza WRC being 4.34 meters long).
That said, I like the 307. It looks funky and different. The first true coupe to be homologated to WRC spec. The spoiler does look a little funky though, like its always about to fall off.

the 307 must be putting out sick amounts of torque to be able to still out accellerate most of the other cars with 2 less gears...
| Calamity Jesus | 02-09-2004 06:29 PM |
I'm really impressed with the styling of the 307.. it's very progressive.. much better than the other egg shapes everyone is starting to crank out for the NA market.
All the WRC motors are putting out sick amounts of torque.. that's how they can get by with those little 300hp restrictor plates... they're usually pulling in as much air as possible at very low rpm and hit their torque peak fairly low in the rev range because the restrictors start to choke the engines very quickly. Listen to the engines next time you're watching some vids.. their pitch changes the most at lower mid range and then trails off.

The 307 is growing on me. It reminds me of something else but I just haven't put my finger on it yet.
The 206s didn't look that much like the WRC car though did they?

Its ugly, but a rally car is supposed to have ugly rally car " attitude". The paint job of the 307 saves it from being Heeedoius, like Markko's Focus paint job.

I'd like it a lot better if it weren't such a strong competitor!
Seriously, I agree w/ both points of view- it looks kinda cool, but there ARE elements of Chevy's Monte Carlo in it...
I do prefer the 206.

I like the front end of the 307 but don't really care for the rest of the car. I would have liked to see a 4dr hatch personally.
I also think that Ford should have used the Fiesta as their rally platform because that one rally concept car they did looked awesome. The current '04 Focus WRC isn't a bad car either... :p

I've loved the 307 since the first time I saw it. It kinda looks like a fiero on steroids.

Have to agree with you there. The BP livery is not the nicest looking one. The Martini one was much better.
