Anyone own or have pictures of LED exterior bulbs? part 1

Stevins 05-25-2003 04:53 PM

Anyone own or have pictures of LED exterior bulbs?
Im looking to change all of my OEM bulbs with LED ones. I have all clear corners, including JDM tail lights. Is anyone happy with them?? Do you have any pictures?? If anyone can shed some light I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

right now i have LED's in the rear tails and blinkers....i like the "instant" on effect...now they match the spoiler LED :D....i also found a fix for the "hyper" blinker effect...the led's in the corners were unsatisfying to me they were to dim and directional.... but i do love the rears...

care to post pics? and maybe a how to :)?

I tried a set of White LED's for the corner markers in an attempt to match the color of my headlights....All I have to say is "Money stupidly wasted." The LED's are horribly dim, and thus show up as blue no matter how white the manufacturer states their whiteness.

My friend told me that the LED would have to be higher powered to be white white. The Focus-ness doesn't help the dimness out either. All the light goes straight out the enclosure instead of bouncing around and then reflecting out. (causing the entire enclosure to light up.)

Doesnt anyone have any pics??

BUMP!

I've got some for my bike. I don't use them because they do not put out enough light. If its nice out tomorrow I will pop them in and take some pics for you, so you have an idea of what they look like.
yo. 05-26-2003 11:55 PM

exactly wat obyone stated.

i, too, have led's in the corner markers in an attempt to match my headlights and it's just not white/bright at all. I'm gonna try using them in the rear as blinkers or as the reverse light and see if that works better. sorry no pics at the moment.

Im not really looking to do my front corners, Im more interested in doing the turn signals and tail lights. I dont think that the fronts would look right in LED.

i will try and shed some light
i have clear sidemarkers with amber LEDs in them. The bulbs are clear and glow amber. they are bright enough and solved the problem of having a clear lense with UGLY amber colored bulbs behind it. I WILL POST PICS... I promise. as soon as i get a chance. stay tuned.
Stevins 05-28-2003 12:41 PM

Thanks Hensly!

I did the same thing. Used Seltek 194 Amber LED's. Real bright, instant on and no ugly orange behind the clears. Bought them at Advance autoparts.

Ok, im probably going to step into the middle of something here and not be able to cope with the responce!!

Im an electronics design engineer and in the last year i have been assigned to create LED lighting for auto applications. Products ive worked on include emergency lighting for cop cars and ambulances etc. So i can create some pretty bright lights with LED's.
These LED's arent exactly the same as the ones you are used to and require different voltages to standard LED's. In fact, the best way to run them is to use a DC/DC convertor, which ive just happened to make a working protoype in my lab, for your guys specific application, before posting this thread.

I guess if people are interested i can make a kit that will be about 1/3 to 1/2 the brightness of the amber/blue/red flashing lights on emergency vehicles.
This is much much brighter than standard LED's.

The light emits forwards as well as from the side. This will help light up the lense remember though, LED's are desinged to be directional. Most viewing angles are a max of 120 degrees.
Colors available are Ultra Violet, royal blue, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange/amber, red, white.
The white are pure white. Ive used them in headlight projects for a very well known manufactures up and coming replica of an old classic Le Mans car.

Let me know what you guys think.

OK Not LED's but....
Ok here is my take on the whole running light thing... I upgraded the headlights and fog lamps on my '02 and then did the fog lamp mod... it looked sweet, but it made the running lights look like a dirty brown color in contrast. So I headed down to the local Pep Boys for some #194 Blade replacement LED's (I heard the LED's are MUCH better than conventional bulbs)... I wanted white ones... these "appeared" white... Got them home, took the damn car apart, only to find out they were amber. After going round and round trying to find white ones... I ended up getting some super white bulbs (gave up on the LED's..). Now when I put the white bulbs in and tested the one side, I realized, hell! I don't know which I like better... the white bulbs or the amber LED's (but DEFINITELY not the stock crap ones!) The ambers did look pretty nice next to the amber side marker lamps... Well when all was said and done, I decided on the super white bulbs (after driving around with one of each in for like a week and a half!! LOL)

Damn those are pretty bright.

UKScooby: I would be interested depending on price. I have an 04, so I am not sure if they changed the bulb sizes from the old style.

The same crap happened to me only on one side. I kept blowing bulbs and didn't know why. Then I finally looked at the harness and it was all melted to hell.

So I said screw it and just got a 7000K HID kit and havn't had an issue since. Also it is so much brighter than the aftermarket bulbs.
