Anyone used these ebay seats? part 1

TylerTR 03-15-2006 12:20 PM

Anyone used these ebay seats?
Well I am getting very tired of my stock TR seats. Cornering while holding on to the side of the seat with one hand isn't very fun. I don't want to spend a lot so I decided to browse some of the ebay "racing" seats. Alot of them look pretty good, but does anyone have any experience?

Also check these out! They look nice

your life is worth more than a $100 ebay seat.

Confortable seats that hold you in are not cheap period. It's on that list of things do never go cheap on. And yeah, you'll end up compromising your safety, as well as confort.

I thought the Seats in my TR stunk until I actually autoxed in them. They hold quite well especially since I've got the car to handle a lot better, eliminating a lot of the body roll.

If you must get new seats get some used ones from a STI or WRX. They'll fit, be confortable and most of all, safe. A place to start looking is jdmpartstx.com. They've allways got a set of STI seats in hand for cheap.
TylerTR 03-15-2006 01:04 PM

For the price of STI seats I could get a very nice pair of corbeau A4s or CR1s which would hold much better
TylerTR 03-15-2006 01:05 PM

There has to be a company that makes a reasonably priced seat that works well
anthony_delprete84 03-15-2006 01:05 PM

i say go for it! I bet you could sell them easily if u REALLy didnt like them

Yea I heard good things about Corbeau and I thought they were more affordable than sparco/recaro, atleast thats what I heard from a random autoxer. Oh and are wrx TR seats different from regular wrx seats? I have an 05 and the factory seats are comfortable while providing enough bolstering for me not to consider new ones whether I track or autox in the future. I wouldnt mind more bolstering but its not a big enough for me to worry about personally is what im saying.
TylerTR 03-15-2006 03:36 PM

Yes the TR seats and the WRX are different. The wrx have a lot more side support and look very sporty...
IIdiceII 03-15-2006 04:13 PM

Status seats are REALLY nice and cheap...look in the vendor for sale forum, youll see a thread with them. And I dont think usdm STi seats are anything special. My 02-03 wrx seats hold me better than those imo.
TylerTR 03-16-2006 05:42 AM

Ya when I sat in the STI seats they didn't feel like the offered much support over regular seats
TylerTR 03-16-2006 05:50 AM

Wow the status seats look good!
markadopolus 03-16-2006 06:09 AM

Don't waste your money on ebay seats. My brother gave me a brand new APC seat that he got for free (no, I didnt put it on my car) Its never been installed and the damn thing is already falling apart. Its better to buy a breand with a good reputation.
Lachlan 03-16-2006 12:37 PM

Don't they have to be DOT approved in order to be sold as car seats? If so, I don't think you'd be compromising safety. Just maybe comfort, and possibly holdinability
ommmjido 03-16-2006 01:46 PM
Yes the TR seats and the WRX are different. The wrx have a lot more side support and look very sporty...
the 06 WRX seats "look" sporty but the fact is that the TR seats(same as 02-03 wrx seats) give u more support. sit in one and u'll know.
kkam030 03-16-2006 06:27 PM

you dont want cheap seats. i've sat in some cheapos before. feels like a wood frame wrapped in vinyl and stuffed with cotton.
rst4me 03-16-2006 10:13 PM

I had a set of those with diffrent coverings in my firebird.
They felt firmer than standard but not too bad.
The wreck that killed the car was spinning rear quarter into a concreet highway center divider at about 70mph. The hinges on the seats buckeled which caused the seats to recline. In that accident neather of us were harmed and i dont see where it would have put us in danger, unless some one was in the back seat or the car was struck a second time.
thats about the worst accident I could have imagined short of head on, or rolling.
after the wreck i fixed one of the seats and turned it into an office chair and after using it daily for the last 3 years its held up very well... not nearly as comfy as the over priced brands but still not bad.
What tends to be the most dangerious thing about after market seats, cheap or over priced, is when people get over sholder harnesses and feed them thru the seat cut outs and anchor them to the floor or any thing under sholder level. In an accident the belts will actully cause compression of your spine.

Thats because they are.

Sparco torinos are real good ones. I'm sure you can fins some used one cheap(I know in tristate they've sold for $800 a pair, that's not too bad considering they're $650 new). Basicly it works like this- Cheap, performs good, safe, pick 2 and that's all you'll ever find at best.
slowscooby 03-17-2006 01:05 PM

Those actually don't look that bad. the only way to find out is if someone buys them and tests them out....And 100 bucks for seats is super cheap. Although since it isnt "real" leather you would probably get sweatty real fast with that fake stuff.
kaisersouse 03-17-2006 01:19 PM

those dont look bad at all and i have seen/sat in FAR worse.

$100 for the PAIR? jesus its almost worth spending the money on just out of curiosity...regardless of the $140 shipping!!!
dlroto 03-17-2006 01:25 PM

I'm waiting for someone to buy them and test them out also.
Handsdown 03-17-2006 01:38 PM

i'm waiting for someone to buy them, crash them at +70mph, and live to tell about it.

i've been waiting a while now.

basically, i wouldn't want to chance it. i'd buy something that is used by racing teams and goes through rigorous safety testing, not something that uses materials and processes emulated from something else for style.

safety first! stay away from cheap safety equipment!

I agree.

I am amazed at how many people buy those bolt in roll cages and don't realize how much less safe their cars are with them in there...

Did I miss something?
slowscooby 03-17-2006 04:41 PM

Couldn't you just ask what kind of material they are made of? As far as the bracket/sliders go if they are steel or some such metal it should be relatively safe no?

Run, logic is coming!

:( youre right
t3hWIT 03-17-2006 07:23 PM

Ha. if you dont like your seats, ill buy you the ebay seats and take yours:)
e11ys 03-17-2006 10:25 PM

Whatever you do, don't buy newer WRX or STI seats. If the guy that said TR seats are the same as 02-03 WRX seats was correct, you'd be taking a step backwards. The STI seats are made well, but they are very wide, and have sorry side bolstering. Just find some used seats from a reputable brand, or better yet, get some harnesses with your stock seats to hold you in better!
WRXDriftR 03-17-2006 10:31 PM

ebay seats. 5* crash test rated. ahaha, lol, that would be a great headline. i bet they would collapse if you sneezed and lunged backwards

the FACT is that the above is 100% FALSE

...and the TR seats suck monkey balls unless you are 6'+ and over 220.
migs76 03-18-2006 09:20 AM

i thought i had it good with my 02wrx seats...
then i bought these. jdm wrx seats.

soooo worth the extra scratch.
taedaug 03-18-2006 12:37 PM

what about tenzo type-r evo's? you can get a pair of them for around $450 plus an extra $80 or so for the brackets. They seem like a step-up from the ebay ones. But I personally haven't sat in them. So I don't know.
