Attn. Ohio Rally Enthusists (and Neighboring States)

October 6 is the Johnny Apple Seed Road Rally. If I recall correctly it starts in Canton around noon and it will last to 10:00 pm. If you are interested just let me know and I'll post exact times and directions. BTW this is a SCCA national road rally.

Lifino 09-15-2001 07:20 PM

Hey Steve, I plan to drive it! I spoke to Chris (SRIperformance) about it the other day, he's been presuring me into it!

I've got a friend who is getting the day off work and is going to be sitting shotgun, he's also got access to helmets w/ a comm system built in(gotta check if they are Snell approved)

I'm Uber-Excited! This is going to be my first rally, and only my second real time driving on gravel/dirt. For the past week I've been going to sleep dreaming about it!!! I'm starting to make sure I've got the seat positioned right... It's like Xmas!

I just moved up to Lakewood, perhaps we should head down to Canton together. Just today I went out in search of a little gravel, very little luck, mostly just straight roads, but then I was just driving randomly...

I'll keep an eye on this thread...

This makes me want to get the RS even sooner. What would you need to compete in this? I might have a car I can run in it.

Josh
Lifino 09-16-2001 01:05 AM

All's you need is a car.

Realy, if your willing to drive it on the roads they will take it.
-Silas

[Edit:sorry, I was tired last night, that came across sounding real dumb. Like this is any better!]
[Edit:didn't know about the helmets.]
STORER 09-16-2001 11:04 AM

No helmet needed for this rally. After market driving lights are really good to have. Going 40-50 mph down a single lane dirt road at night, you need all the help you can get. A map light is also needed. I have a permanent mounted Hella map light, but you can get a cheep battery powered map light that mounts on you clipboard at a book store. We should all go down together.

Steve
BRP1 09-16-2001 11:18 AM

See you there!
slidewaysmike 09-16-2001 12:00 PM

Is this going to be the last Road Rally of the year in Ohio?

I would really like to do it, but that is the first weekend that I will be living in Ohio, so it probably won't happen.

Is there a link to the site with info on it? Or is it on the SCCA page?

Thanks, have fun everyone who is doing it.

Mike
mykrrrr 09-16-2001 01:05 PM

Post the web site please...

I might be in Columbus that weekend so I might be able to do it if I can find a navvie in time...

STORER 09-16-2001 03:57 PM

Here is the link to the NeOhio SCCA rally page http://www.neohio-scca.org/rally/rally_schedules/schedrly.htm or you can call Greg Lester at (330) 836-9003. I misplaced my detailed information sheet, but I will post more info at a later date. The next Ohio road rally is the famous Ohio Winter Rally in January.

Steve
NotAnRS 09-17-2001 06:52 AM

Anyone seeking a partner for the event?
I'll be in Columbus for a company training session for 2 weeks, and will be available that weekend and bored out of my mind.

I have past TSD rally experience and have won a few events running SOP class (as a driver). Navigation-wise I'm good but not great :)

Since I'll be piloting a company Taurus with no skidplate, I'd be interested in a co-drive position (or, if you're really daring, I'll drive your Suby with respect).

Interested parties let me know asap!
STORER 09-17-2001 04:36 PM

Here is the scedule taken from the SCCA web site

Saturday, October 6, 2001
10:30 - 12:00 - Registration
11:00 - mini rally school
13:01 - first car starts
22:00 - first car finishes
23:15 - provisional scores
23:45 - awards

Rally headquarters will be at the Holiday Inn North-Belden Village, 4520 Everhard Rd. N.W. Canton 44718. Off I-77 Exit 109. Adjacent to the Belden Village Mall. reservations can be made at the hotel call (330) 494-2770. Mention "SCCA Rally" to take advantage of a special room rate.

If you have questions, you can E-mail Greg Lester (rally master) at [email protected]

Workers are needed, if you want to volunteer working controls call Greg or E-mail him. He's actually a pretty nice guy so don't be afraid to get in contact with him. Once again his phone number is (330) 836-9003

Hope this helps. A week or so before the rally, we should make plans to head down to Canton together.

NotAnRS---> Where in Ohio are you going to be?

Mike
mykrrrr 09-17-2001 08:02 PM

Do you NEED a skid plate for this road rally??? Is it that high speed???

-mykr™
STORER 09-17-2001 11:24 PM

You don't need a skid plate for this rally. Some sections you might have to take a little slower, but your car will be okey. If your going to do more rallys, it is worth the money to invest in a 1/4" front skid plate and a rear differental guard. I look at it as insurance. Your car will get dusty/muddy, but that's half the fun.

BTW if you want a skid plate contact Primitive Racing or you might want to make your own.

Steve
tundra 09-17-2001 11:39 PM

Nice!

Hey where in Canton is this going on? Although I don't have a car that I would rally (Integra), I'd still like to come out and watch. My parents live in Canton about 5 minutes away from Belden Village, and I was going to be home that weekend for other reasons, but I'd like to drop by and check out the action :)
STORER 09-17-2001 11:58 PM

Hey Tundra, check a few posts up. I have detailed info at where it starts. The holiday Inn.

Steve
NotAnRS 09-18-2001 06:23 AM

I'll be in Columbus, but could meet at the rally start.

Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
tundra 09-18-2001 11:57 AM

oops

Thanks STORER, I didn't realize that it was actually being held in the parking lot area, I thought that was where the group would first meet. Thanks for the info!
slidewaysmike 09-18-2001 08:36 PM

NotAnRS---> I am tossing the idea around. That will be my first weekend in Columbus. I will have to get the okay from my wife to do it. If she gives me the thumbs up then I will do it. You can go with me, since I won't have a navigator/co-driver. This will also be my first try at this type of event, so you might get frustrated with me. I hope not though.
Let me find out what my wife thinks, (she is my sugar momma, so she makes the decisions) and if she says yes, plan on hooking up with me.

Mike
NotAnRS 09-18-2001 08:45 PM

Mike,
PM'd you.
RS2000 09-18-2001 10:01 PM

NotanRS- If Mike decides not to go let me know, I may need a co-driver. It would be my first time actually racing my car but it sure will be fun. Let me know if your interested.
SammyDFG 09-19-2001 02:09 PM

come to my campus - OSU !!!
iceweazel 09-20-2001 03:28 PM

Normally I'd offer to drive or co-drive for anyone, but that
weekend is a REAL rally as well, so I'll be in AZ at Prescott!

TSDs are OK. This one is usually brisk, but the ones in mid MI
are almost Pro rallies!

There are a couple local TSD rally clubs Sammy, check em out.
CORC and Dayton at the least.

NotAnRs---> You have mail.

Mike
STORER 09-25-2001 10:30 PM

Ok people, who is actually going? You better get you paper work in ASAP. The people from Cleveland, where would you like to meet before we head down? My navigator and I live in Lake County and will go throught Cleveland to pick up Rt. 77. We can meet almost anywhere along the way.

Steve
NotAnRS 09-26-2001 07:10 AM

Rallyee

Well, everyone wussed out on me, so I'll probably be there as a worker. If you see the guy in the blue corporate-looking Taurus, that's me. Make sure you go by my checkpoints sideways.
STORER 09-26-2001 11:13 AM

I always try to pass the check points sideways. It brightens up the control workers day. Thanks for working, we need people like you. See you October 6!

Steve
Lifino 09-27-2001 05:49 PM

I just got my confermation in the mail today!

Guess it's official, I'm driving in a rally...

-Silas
slidewaysmike 09-27-2001 07:05 PM

Lucky you!! I wish I could have gone, but just moving into a new house on Wednesday, and not getting any of our furniture until Thursday/Friday makes it hard to convince my wife that I should go to the rally. Believe me I tried. Oh well, definately next time.

Good luck everyone.

Mike
STORER 10-01-2001 12:03 PM

Five days until the big rally. Just a few reminders for you novices:
1. Start the rally with a full tank of gas
2. Bring a clipboard and pen
3. A watch with a stop watch (AKA your typical digital watch)
4. Map light or small pen light to read pace notes at night. Do not use the standard map light that comes with the RS. It will blind your driver.
5. (3) reflective triangles or a few standard road flares
6. Water and food
7. Dramamean (spelling?) or Sea Bands to help with motion sickness.

You first timers will had some questions at the beginning Chris (SRI Performance) and I will help you out, so have fun and I'll see you all on Saturday

Steve
Crashton 10-01-2001 05:52 PM

Another reminder for the novices.

Those roads are open to other traffic. Have fun, but keep that in mind. You can find anything from an Amish buggy to an old lady driving home from the church social. If you want to drive flat out put a cage in & run stages. Hope everyone has a safe & enjoyable rally. One more thing, beware of the red mist.

Chuck:D
STORER 10-01-2001 06:16 PM

Chuck

"Red Mist"????????????? I have no idea what you are talking about. Should I laugh or be afraid?

Steve
Crashton 10-01-2001 09:16 PM

You'll know all about the red mist just at the point you say OH S**T & stuff it. Don't be afraid, have fun & stay outa the bushes.

Chuck:D
STORER 10-03-2001 05:12 PM

Bump!
Lifino 10-03-2001 06:15 PM

Looks like it's going to be cold and wet on Saturday...
STORER 10-03-2001 11:10 PM

Remember, some of the check points are "open". This means you have to get out of your car and give the control worker the nessessary paper work. If its raining and you don't have a jacket on, you will get wet. So You might want to bring a rain jacket and be prepared to get your car muddy!

Steve
wistful 10-04-2001 11:34 AM

any navigating tips??

don
STORER 10-04-2001 12:32 PM

Don,

If you bring a pen, clipboard and a little map light as stated above you'll be OK. We'll give you some pointers on Saturday. This is probably your first rally. Just stay on course and have fun. Concentrate on staying on time on your next rally. BTW who is your driver?

Steve
Lifino 10-04-2001 07:24 PM

Any Clevelanders interested in caravanning down to the start point? Let's put together a meeting point and a time.

Also, anybody with Course Worker experience:
My brother is planning on comming up and working the course. It will be his first time so they will probably pair him up with someone else, but we're wondering - Do they bring the course workers up to the end of the road or would I have to double back and pick him up off the side of the road?

Thanks
-Silas
STORER 10-04-2001 10:21 PM

Silas

I was planning on leaving Lake County around 9:00 am. If you want to meet somewhere off of the highway, pick a place and let us know. E-mail Chris too, Thanks

Your brother will be paired with an experienced person in a car. This team will time multiple check points throughout the rally. You will see him at the end and maybe at the dinner break. E-mail Greg Lester to let him know he will be helping out. It's important that you let Greg know ahead of time he will be working.

Steve
Lifino 10-04-2001 11:13 PM

Steve, why don't you pick a place. I just moved into the area and don't know many land marks... I will have a local in the car so if it is a fairly general place hopefully he will know it... On the other hand it may be easier just to skip it, we're all going to the same place anyhow. I guess I'm just saying I'm open to meeting up for the ride down.

I haven't suggested a caravan on LERSOC, but I suppose I could over there too...

-Silas
STORER 10-05-2001 12:17 PM

Silas
I'll meet you down there, since it's going to be a pain tring to find a place to meet. Look forward to metting you.

Steve
Lifino 10-05-2001 12:19 PM

Steve, disregard that last post... I've been talking to Doug and Chris on LERSOC. It sounds like your in with Chris, so maybe this is overly redundent, but hey, don't say I never told you...

We're talking about meeting off 77 at the McDonalds on Route 8 at 9:30 am. Estimated Departure time of 9:45

I'll update later with a definate Exit # if I get one.

-Silas
