ANybody heard of these....?
I was cruising in my friends 00'Celica GT-S w/ Lexus options. One of the options really got my head scratching. When she kicked it in reverse, this little LCD (looks like the Blitz Turbo timer..the thin one), it measured how many inches/centimeters she is away from hitting an object behind her. ANybody know where I could pick up one of these and how much it would cost? Part and installation? Its pretty funky to say the least. Thanks =D

Just get one from a Toyota or Junkyard but do your research on all you need so the junkyard doesn't screw it up. I am sure there is some sort of control unit,sensors,etc
You can buy aftermarket ones but no LCD readout it will beep like when your x amount of feet away.
Caddys have them to for the rear bumper thats what all those plugs are in the rear bumper. I donnu if they have a display though...
Rear view cameras are trick to but hell I would crash staring at it.

beamers also have em (its an option though) so maybe you can drop by a bmw dealership and see if you can get the unit

infinitis have the camera on the back so you can actually see where you're backing into...pretty cool little toy...but they're hella expensive...good luck if you find one

I work for Toyota(a dealership anyway), thats not a US option...but if you find it, lemme know, cause that sounds cool, and very handy for me!

i think some minivans (maybe caravan?) have that backup system and it beeps when you get too close to soemthing.

Dude, (a) maybe his windows are tinted and it is hard for him to see. Dude (b) maybe he likes gadgets in his car that are not used for performance. He just finds them cool. Eveyone but fukamoto has whined about my questions. Why don't we let him speak for himself.:D

its a Fod Windstar option...plus optional on most Lincolns as well..

Hah! Wow, i Didn't think this thread would become so popular...the feedback is quite amazing..ahem...well, yeah..i agree that it is quite pointless, much like a dvd player/tv player/navigation on a car...but if it was under a 100, i'd take it for the simple reason of it being useful. I'm not the type that wil throw 100% of my car onto useless mods...more like 40% at the most =D...the 40% consisting of a backup thing..if it was under a 100...dancing lights...racing pedals...shift knob...shift boot..the typical...just for show/style..the other 60% serves a purpose =D...i appreciate all the feedback..some positive/some negative....

there's quite a bit of hardware involved for the install on our wrx's. I've been looking at the service manuals from japan, and it's not exactly a plug and play thing all around. someting like 700 installed for that stuff in japan if my memory serves (y'all can always just check the SoJ website for me) ...
even getting it from a junkyard in japan is not a greatest idea, as any kind of impact would render it useless.
Not to mention also they sell it as two separate units, front and rear.
