Picks For German Grand Prix
Struggling too much with picks for this GP weekend.. Been sliding down the order for some time, and need a good weekend to pull back up, like the Hockenheimring needs its old layout back.. Let's try these:

1. M.Schumacher
2. Raikkonen
3. Barrichello
4. Alonso
5. Coulthard
6. Montoya
7. Webber
8. Panis
9. Udo Dirkschneider from Accept

1. Kimi
2. Schumi
3. Coulthard
4. Ralphie
5. JPM
6. Alonso
7. Barrichello
8. DaMatta
9. Crazy Guy in leiderhosen (sp?) and a funny little hat.

should be an exciting race.
Impreza Rider 07-30-2003 11:39 AM

gtguy 07-31-2003 01:03 PM

Man, this is a tough one...so many drivers have so much to prove. M. Schu will be motivated...R. Schu needs to get points to keep his championship hopes alive...Barrichello wants to show that Silverstone wasn't a fluke...Raikkonen has to get serious about gaining points on M. Schu...Coulthard...never mind...and then there's the Montoya monster.

Man!

But, given the track layout, weather and the fact that Bridgestone seems to have their stuff together enough to get Ferrari close to the Michelins (unless they use the Monaco compound at Hockenheim, in which case the Michelin hammer comes down), I have to say:

M. Schu
K. Raikkonen
R. Barrichello
J. Montoya
Coulthard
R. Schu
Alonso
Trulli

Chilli dog got pole!!!!!

Go JPM!!!

Williams first row. Michael will start from 6th:lol:
Leonardo 08-03-2003 08:11 AM

Crash at the start!:furious:

If it were Nascar, they would have taped up the sidepod on Ralphs car and kept going to get some points in.

And knowing my car was hit I would " have lost controll;) " and taken Michael out:lol:
Choose 08-03-2003 08:12 AM

What a start!!!

3 : frentzen and wilson also out
2 : barrichello is also out of the race
2 : ralf schumacher retired
1 : big accident for kimi. he made a blinding start to pass barrichello, but the two collided into the first corner

And Villeneuve spun.....
Leonardo 08-03-2003 09:28 AM

AS I type this Michael got a flat!!!!!!

Montoya wining for more than a minute!!!!!
Choose 08-03-2003 09:36 AM

..and Renault finishes on the podium!!!!:)
Leonardo 08-03-2003 09:39 AM

MONTOYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Williams is smelling blood as it trails Ferrari by just two points!

Montoya is only 6 points behind Michael now and seeing how Montoya is getting podium after podium, I'd put my money on him.

Fred would have been proud!!! :( but at the same time :)
Leonardo 08-03-2003 09:45 AM

That was unfortunate for M. Schumacher, who had driven the best race that he could have until that moment. He probably picked something up with the wide pass of Trulli.

The real question is, where did Williams get all of that speed from? Montoya was a MINUTE ahead of the Ferrari/rest of the field. Obviously, some of it is all of it coming together the right way, but man. What a drive.

Coulthard's right place, right time luck continues, as well. Second place...he must have been chortling with glee at Schumacher's flat tire, as were the two Renaults.

Given the way the season has gone, it's just as well that Schumacher flatted. Now, with four races to go and a resurgent Williams, it gets very interesting.

There's a three-week break before Hungary, a track which I believe will use the Monaco-spec tire, which means Michelin all the way. And given the speed that Williams has shown, I'd expect them to kick out the jams at Monza, too.

Wow. Could JPM win it all? Fred's ghost is clearly quite a busy spectre.

Ralf Schumacher was penalized 10 grid positions for the next race in Hungary, for his role in the first-lap contretemps.

serious? damn!

both toyotas in the points!
TimStevens 08-03-2003 07:42 PM

That seems a little unnecessary... yes, it was definitley his fault, but it didn't seem like he was trying to cause the accident or really driving in an unsafe manner...

Seems overly harsh to me. I think it was just a racing accident, but I would lay most of the blame on Raikkonen and not Ralf. IMO his attempt to squeeze by Barrichello on the outside was overly ambitious and forced three cars into a space that was only large enough for two.

I agree as Rubbens was trying to go on the outside, didn't know there was someone else on his outside.

Kimmi should have honked the horn:lol:

Ralf was leading those three cars, why would he have the blame.

Ferrari's launch controll sucked leaving them behind.

Saw how Michael was passed by the Renaults? Renault has done wonders with BMW's last year car.

Kevin, you ask where did Williams get their speed? Would yo have asked that if Michael and montoya were in the opposite order? Anyway, I'd argue that the Ferrari was slow as Michael was trailling the Renaults for most of the race instead of fiting for dominance. So it was a combination of great tyres, great car, and the right conditions fot that particular car. Looking how the Ferrari and the McLaren wererunning, IF the crash didn't happen, it would have been another Williams 1-2 IMHO

I really hope Williams gets the Championship and Montoya as well.

Sure, I would have. A minute is a lot of time to put on your championship rivals, especially considering the sad shape Williams was in at the beginning of the season. They've progressed, but man! It's impressive, but the turn of speed is wondrous.

Ferrari were slow, indeed. It shows how important tires are. The gains made by Michelin in the off-season more than eradicated the speed gains made by the new Ferrari, especially given that Bridgestone was running in place, it would appear.

M. Schumacher likes Hungary, so that should be a good race, but this has been two races in a row that he has been quite noticeably outpaced by his teammate. He'd better get on the stick, because six points with four races to go ain't a lot.

But let's look at the tracks:

Hungary: If they run the Monaco specification tyre, Ferrari is outta luck.

Indianapolis: This is a horsepower track because of the straightaway, so you have to like Williams.

Monza: Ditto, even though the tifosi will be going crazy.

Suzuka: This is a Ferrari track all the way, in addition to Bridgestone knowing this track like the back of their hand.

Ferrari and MS could be looking at being behind going into Suzuka. Interesting stuff. What a season!

Kevin
StuBeck 08-03-2003 11:19 PM

I don't think the penalty is harsh at all, its what Massa got last year for pushing de la Rosa off in the same manner.

If you look at where it happened, he had another 100 meters at least before you even have to think about braking, and where he was when he was turning for the corner was a half car width away from where he was trying to get to when he ran into the side of Barrichello.

If all 3 drivers had just gone straight, they would have been fine. Kimi would have gotten past Barrichelo, and gone into the corner side by side with Ralf.
driggity 08-04-2003 12:07 AM

Wow, they actually had some F1 coverage on Sportscenter a few minutes ago. And not just the crash. Although when they showed the top 3 places someone named Jarno Alonso was in 3rd  It was nice to see some coverage though.

All great observations. :)

I'm curious what the month long testing ban is going to do. If Ferrari and Bridgestone don't make massive gains soon. I wonder how much they can really close the gap without huge testing.

Sooner or later McLaren are going to run the MP4-18. With Kimi almost out of it, what'll they have to lose? It may not beat the Williams on current form, but it should take away points from Ferrari.

Can't wait to find out.

:)

SpinAll4 08-04-2003 05:00 PM

Congrats to Leonardo for his picks for the race!, could have been perfect if the first corner would have been clean.

Please let Williams/BMW/Budweiser win the constructors championship!!!

McLaren, i am sorry, but what a bunch of goons. :disco:

Ralfs penalty is pretty weak, i think. Looking at the replay, it sure looks like he moves over very tamely to get a good line into the first turn, but leaves more than enough room for Rubens. I doubt that there is any way to see another car outside of Rubens in those dinky mirrors, especially at what- 115mph? Total crap, imnsho.

GO Williams!
RB

(can we get a 'ChiliDog' emoticon, just for Motorsports forum?)
gtguy 08-04-2003 05:31 PM

I was reading on AutoSport that Schumacher isn't at all optimistic about his chances for winning a sixth title. I think that the performance of the Williams, and his attendant bad luck really shook him up. He hasn't had a can of whoopass like that opened up on him in a loooong time, where someone drove off into the distance, and he couldn't do a darned thing about it.

Montoya, on the other hand, doesn't want to talk about championships at all, probably because he doesn't want to jinx it by thinking about it, which is very funny.

The last corner of the last race, that's my hope.

Kevin
