The Purplest HID...
Hi, just have some quick questions to all of U that have knowledge on the HID.. Which HID kit would give the most purple tone on the road?(not blue but purple like Audi and BMW) What's the best output in the HID if I want the brightness and purple tone to balance?( I want it bright but meanwhile have a strong tone of purple.) And what brand to get if I am concern about the reliability on the kit? I did a search but most of'em I see is either white or blue...:( Any help pointin me to the right direction would be greatly appricated. :) Thanx.

the 4300K (Audi) xenon's will be the brightest and whitest light. anything over that will start to get blue (6000K BMW) and then purple (8000K or 9000K) BUT anything over the 4300K lights wont be as bright.
hope this helps.

Here is my 7000K kit in my STI projectors. They look very Bimmer like. I can get them for $370shipped too. Great warranty and everything. For that price, I figured why the hell not. I was thinking of ordering another set of 4300K just to see the difference. Trust me, these are bright as hell and all that hoopla about not being as bright is not worth taking in. These things light up the road like no other. My friend has a brand new 2003 CL typs S and his 4300K factory lights are definetely NOT brighter than mine. They are just whiter. I will try to get a pic of him and I side by side to show you the difference. I fugured if your gonna spend the loot to get HID's, why not get noticed:-)
Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with my dealer. Very nice guy.

a few additional questions:
did you get them from a vendor? how much were they?
how difficult was it to install the HID kit to the Sti lights?
who makes the 7k kit you're using now?

I would caution you from getting any HID kit that attempts to make the light look purple. All OEM HID's are 4300k which, as stated before, is basically a pure white color. Maybe a 7000k bulb is "bright as hell" but the pure fact is that it is not as bright as a 4300k bulb, which therefore must be "brighter than hell." Comparing headlights from two completely different cars is comparing apples to oranges, because there is far more to perceived brightness than color temp, particularly the housing and lamp which that bulb is in. (even then there is the whole issue of perception... but I won't get into that)
With that out of the way, it is important to understand why Audi and BMW lights look the way they do. When you see the color shift from purple, to white, to blue, to purple etc, what you are seeing is not the color of the HID light (remember 4300k, white) but rather a phenomena caused by the projector housing, and particularly the beam cut off shield.
My point for writing all of this is to learned you on why OEM HID looks the way it does. I saw a car that had some really purple HID bulbs and it looked... well let's just say I'd be embarrassed to be driving it.
Good luck with you decision, post pics when you're done!
**: also contained on that page is a good explaination on why I don't think it is necessary to get LHD-specific STi projectors. I submit that the only difference between the LHD lights and the RHD lights is the beam shield, in which case RHD owners should be able to modify the existing shield OR fabricate a new one, creating what ever beam step they desire.

To anyone that wants to know where I get my HID kits, PM me. I dont want to post his details because of I-clubs rules.
All of DR.WOT's info seems pretty accurit. If you want 4300K, them get 4300K. If you want 7000K, then get 7000K because there is no price difference!!!
I got mine because If I just spent $370 to get an "all white" Acura looking HID, I would be pissed. You have to admit that Acura HID's are a little pathetic.
I will take more pics of my car with the lights on tonight. It in NOW WAY WHATSOEVER looks like a cheap purple. It has a violet hue to it. NOT PURPLE OR PINK.
Everyone comes up to me and asks where I got them because they look so good. Everyone says, "Damn I cant believe you got HID's!!"
I have not gotten one person that has asked me if they are real or not. You can easily tell that they are HID's.
As I said before, I have a friend that has a 96' Tahoe (non-projector) and he has the same 7000K HID kit that I have. It looks like a Bimmer is coming at you because when he hits bumps, it flashes violet and changes color.
Let me know if you want information on how to get in touch with my HID dealer.
Thanks.

STR8OUT,
Thanks for the info on your lights and the info on the guy who sold them to you, I've been in contact with him (from another post of yours).
I'm specifically interested in why your fog lights and parking lights look so much whiter in the second picture in your comparison. It almost looks like when you took the picture of the HIDs you overexposed the picture, making the HIDs look much more white/blue that they do in real life (in comparison with the dirty yellow fogs in the previous picture). Even the parking light looks brighter!

Car looks great! Thanks!

They come with the LHD lights, thats all I know. They turn on if you flick the headlight switch half way on. Also if you hit that button on the top of the steering wheel.
They look kinda cool. hehe

I dont get flashed much at all. I will get the occasional flash but I think to myself, "allow me to retart:devil: " and I give them the all mighty higbeam/lowbeam combo and they really wished that they didnt flash me.
It rarely happens. As far as being illegal, I dont know. I have passed many cops sitting on the side of the road speedchecking and none of them stoped me. I would just say that the car comes like that and they would prolly believe me cause its such a rare car:D .

Str8out all I can say is
GLARE!!!!
That last pic shows or maybe its the angle but that is bright and shows tremendous signs of glare.
All I can say is get what you want but the facts remain that 43k is the best for seeing.
the higher temps give off the appearence of brighter, Mercedes is known for not having quality OEM systems.
Acura has a purple appearence not white ;)
Another reason for the color shift is the optics the color gives the company a distinct look and says "BMW" or "AUDI"
If you drive in a car with 43k than a 7k or 6k or anything you will see the difference in vision. Camera shots of difference is an optical illusion cause it is trying to capture the difference in color and it always make it look bad when in fact it works better.
Not putting anybody down on getting a kit that is 6k and up but think like this. If 7k or 6k was really so much better why dont OEM come with them? Cause they arent better only appear to see further like those HID immitations do appear.

Very well done there chap.
Some of your info is correct.
First off, Find me an Acura with purple HID's, Maybe you meant to say Audi. Acura has White HID's, My best friend has a 2003 CL Type S that I see everyday. I will get pics for you.
Second, you might not of read the "Description" on the last pic. Go check it and get back to me on the glare thing. It says, "Looking directly into the beam". Any HID kit will produce this much glare.
I am not sure that I agree with you on the 4300K is "Supposedly" brighter than 7000K. I line up next to my friend with the CL and mine are just as bright as his. Mine just look a hell of a lot better because mine change all types of colors from blue to purple to white. His are only white plus they are not in a projector housing.
Do not take offese to this reply, I think you, I, and everyone else appriciattes what everyone has to say.
Thank for listening and YES, the guy I get these kits off can get you anything from 5200K white, 6000K white/blue, 7000K violet, and 7500K blue.
I have the 7000K kit.
PM me if want his ordering website with pics. It is kinda a neat little site that he set up for me and my friends that I recomend.
ps. I have never been mistaken for those cheap blue bulbs, you can tell that they are HID.
Thanks,

Well than havent seen a new Acura line. My parents have a 01' TL and the output appears purplish hue this is pre-reflector HID housings they used if that is what he has. It isnt as purple as audi but it isnt blue it has a slight purple hue.
4300k light output is better from experience than a 6k and 7k.
I am not talking when you look at them from outside, cause I will admit the 6k and 7k look better but they didnt light as good as the 43k.
a 6k and 7k are an improvement though over stock, I am just giving the info I have since you can get all these kits I am stating this if you only can get a different kelvin temp I wouldnt say anything cause I dont like to screw someone over on business.

I've heard that xenons are only legal in the states if they are auto-leveling (Audi, BMW) to adjust for cargo/weight in the back. However, the S2K comes with non-auto-leveling HIDs so you decide...
I personally like the projectors a heck of a lot more than the reflective bulb arrangements (Acura) :)
I'd also like to know if the aftermarket xenons are legal in the states. I've heard before that the STI projecters technically are NOT because their dimensions are too small for federal regulations? Maybe someone can verify that...last thing I want is to spend money/time on a mod like this and get jacked by a fix-it ticket.

I have passed many cops at night and day with them on and they do nothing. I have anal cops in my area too.
My STI lights are dot approved by the way. It says it right on the lens.
I have motors on my lights also but I dont have them hooked up yet. I will try that soon.

I've never had any issues with cops either and I have the RHD JDM headlights. I think cops will most likely only bother you about something like that if they dont have anything better to do. Cops are stupid like that :p

This is sort of off topic but I just want to say I think it is complete Bulls***********hit that the I-Club rules are so strict that one can't even share weher he bought his HID's from, but thats just my 2 cents. I just felt like someone should say somthing about this sorta thing because It has gotten way out of hand.

I've got LHD "STi" Projectors without HID and when I had them pretty much properly aimed I had problems with people on my side of the road thinking my high beams are on. It seams the problem would only get worse with an HID kit.
Perhaps if somebody figures out the leveling switch wiring I'll get HIDs. Has this been done yet?
Right now I'm aimed kinda low just so people don't hassle me with Halogens!
P.S. All Subaru headlight housings for the current generation car use the same exact clear shield so they all say DOT VOL on them, even RHD ones which should in theory say DOT VOR (IIRC).

Hey guys I think there is a link off the I club page to go to the sight for the 7000k HIDs. They cost a ****load but it also has a lot of information on the lights. THey didn't have any projector kidts though, just the amps and bulbls for the different kind of lights. They actually compare all of the different kind of HIds. Here is a link to the site. http://www.mccullochhid.com/index2.htm
You can click on HID difference and it shows you different pics of the views of the HIDS. YOu can also check out their gallery to check out the different installs on different vehicles. Yeah I wasted a lot of time on this one day, but it might help you guys out. Most of the cars didn't use projectors though. They just installed the bulbls and amps into factory light kits.
