Best place to sit at Montreal F1 GP part 1

Best place to sit at Montreal F1 GP
I am buying tickets for this year's GP and can't decide between turn 1 (grandstand 12) and the hairpin (grandstand 15). Anyone who's been there have any advice?
Sir-Knight 02-06-2007 05:00 PM

hairpin if you want to see the cars... turn 1 if you want to see how fast they go.
rs6er 02-06-2007 05:13 PM

How about passing?
Scooby-Doode 02-06-2007 10:59 PM

Pretty much all passing is done under braking, the grandstands you mentioned are good. Try also the one in the rear, I believe its grandstand 24 or something.
REX8 02-06-2007 11:24 PM

Either are great. I like the hairpin, as the braking there is just awesome. First time I saw an F1 car entering the hairpin was in the rain...I thought to myself....oh my god, that guys dead! Then he proceeded to drop anchor. Just amazing.
jac04 02-07-2007 11:47 AM

I sat at the hairpin a few times. Lots of action and the smell of F1 brakes wafting through the air.:)
SimonJ 02-07-2007 12:22 PM

I've been 3 times - sat in grandstand 24 all 3 times (Exit of hairpin) - its directly across from the Big Screen too...so you can see all the action
kpmatt00 02-07-2007 01:47 PM

+1 for hairpin!!!
Dr. WOT 02-07-2007 02:02 PM

I've sat in both.... Hairpin easily. Good place to see the cars from, great accessabililty (closest to metro) and near the other facilities. Turn 1 is at the fartherst point from all of this and it about a 30 minute walk to get to after you get into the track.
Shag-e 02-07-2007 02:09 PM

I sat after the hairpin and it was fine.. you get to see the braking and the acceleration, but you only see them for a short bit, but damn are they loud when they are on it. (V10's that year)

The following year I did USGP and found that to be a better course for watching the race, and that is why I'm going back again this year.
AshyLarry 02-07-2007 02:13 PM

I'd say hairpin. I sat in GS 10 last year and am going to be in the ones right at turn 1 this year.

Confused. The main hairpin is not at turn 1.
4wdrift 02-07-2007 06:40 PM

In Ferrari's drivers seat. ;)

You wish!

Yea, I was saying out of your choices go for the hairpin, I watched the honda's race from there on saturday and it seemed like a good spot.
h62962 02-07-2007 08:50 PM

I'm convinced the best place to watch any race is my family romm in front of my 52" plasma.
WillisW555 02-09-2007 06:10 PM

The main grandstands aren't that great if you want to see racing action. We did see pitstops, but all we could see was the rear wing. AND... most importantly, I these were the most expensive 'regular' seats and they were the farthest freakin' seats from the entrance... like a 45 minute walk.
rs6er 02-09-2007 07:36 PM

Bought the tickets. Grandstand 15 at the hairpin.
Mike_B 02-18-2007 08:21 PM

General Admission
Last year I paid for bad grandstand seats at Indy, when the infield was probably nicer. This year I want to do general admission at Montreal. Are the views pretty decent? Any hills or berms to stand on?

Wanda's VIP room:)
wrxskier18 02-18-2007 11:26 PM

I did gen admission a couple years ago and next time, i'll do the hairpin for sure.

Mike_B, get there early if you want to see. I walked around for miles trying to find a good spot, but the guard rails were much taller than the cars so it was hard to see. The best spot to stand was by the hairpin on the side where the old olympic rowing complex (?) is.
phillywrx 02-19-2007 07:10 PM

i am thinking of going too. where to stay? will there even be any hotel rooms left?
TurmultTee 02-19-2007 08:37 PM

I'm going up to Canada this summer so I checked out the F1 info. The ticket prices for race day are a bit high for me. I would rather go and play golf for that much money.

There are rooms but they are expensive during this weekend. Since there is a good subway system, you can get a hotel a little further away for about 200CAN/night. Otherwise they are ridiculous.

Last year I had GA tickets, almost impossible to see, unless you are by urself and want to climb different things (people) until you get kicked off by security. After walking around the entire track, I eventually gave up and went to the Budwiser tent with a seat and hot waitresses and watched from there. This year I bought tickets, I think #33, bc close to tents and casino. NO matter where you sit the cars go by so fast you can't see too too much. As far as where to stay, I stayed at Le Apartments, got the hotel when i got there and it was their last room. I was literally running from hotel to hotel to find a room. Book now, there are plenty of rooms and they aren't expensive.
criscross79 02-26-2008 08:11 PM

I'm looking into going this year with my wife and I am seeing General Admission passes for sale. Are they any good? and where are they located?

Thanks,

Chris

If you want cheap hotels, we found some in the Latin Quarter last year off RUE SAINT-HUBERT. There is a bunch on that street that and were all 120 to 150 a night. It's also the drop off point for the bus shuttle from the airport and 2 subway stop from the race.
rs6er 02-27-2008 07:56 AM

General Admission tickets let you walk around most of the track so you can see from anywhere but a grandstand. There are certain parts of the track you can't get to though. Since there are Jumbotrons at certain places on the track, you could watch some of the action at eye level with a view of a screen for a bigger picture.
Leonardo 06-03-2008 02:25 PM

I'll most likely be in the hairpin in stand 21 and will be staying in the Holliday Inn Select in downtown.

That's were I'm staying too!

So excited for this weekend, hopefully no rain. Or at least make it cloudy that way I don't burn again.....
Leonardo 06-03-2008 06:56 PM

Yeah, let us know how that USGP race goes...

(you do know there is no USGP this year, right?)
maxipad 06-04-2008 02:09 AM

i went to the race last year and we had seats at the top of the grandstand in turn one, but the grandstand PARALLEL with the pits, which isnt as good as the one to the left of it, PERPENDICULAR to the pits, further into turn one.

the BEST seats are the top row in that grandstand, on the furthest point on the righthand side if you are sitting in the grandstand. you see the whole straight, start, finish, and the exit of turn 1. BEST SEATS!!

yo, commander obvious check out the date in which it was posted.... thanks for the post. That race WAS a great time and I was able to see the last one there.

Hopefully I will run into some of you. We are heading up very early Friday. I am not sure where we are sitting or staying THIS year.
nhat 06-04-2008 11:08 AM

i like turn 10, l'epingle. you get to see them come in under hard braking and then take off down the straight.

if you got general admission tickets, there's some trees between the bleachers at the hairpin that has a good view.

Glad you enjoyed the race last year...wish I would've been able to go!
