Bugs anybody?

Who here lives in an area like the northeast like I do, and has tons of bugs all over the front of they're car? Is there any way to reduce the amount of bugs? I waxed my car yesterday hoping this would help, but, somehow, I don't think it will much.

Just have to wash it a lot...I have the same problem, damn buggers show up really well against blue paint

If you think the bugs in the N.E. are bad, drive down South during lovebug season then you'll realize it's not so bad in NY. :D

Lovebugs???
Mine was all bugged out from a trip to Florida and back, so I parked it in the shade, gave it a good preliminary soaking, and then washed it twice. By the time I went around the second time, there were hardly any bugs left, and the ones that were just wiped right off.
Granted, you aren't necessarily going to have time (or inclination!) to do this every week, so that coat of wax is going to protect your car from the corrosive effects of bug juice. :)

Yeah, I have the same problems with the bugs. Splotches all over the windshield. Just gotta wash the car more often I guess. :(

Unless you go and kill off all the bugs, I don't think you're going to find a way to reduce the ammount of bugs you splatter
I got a buttload of'em on my car right now. Going to be washing it in about 30 minutes when I get home though :)

What ever fish flies by the water suck way more they just lay on the road and you hear them crutch as you roll. One night will cover your car. Try Pamming the whole front of your car and rainX on the glass. You might laugh but it works after I get away from the water they just spay right off. Also works good for snow in the winter, Pam the wheel wells. Yes a can of Pam in the garage is handy. Dont get butter flavor or anything they have coloring.

Stupid ass butterflies. I don't know why they found the need to deface my car like that. Funny thing was that most of them hit the passenger side of the windsheild?
Worst I ever had it was going through Klamath Falls, Oregon at dusk by the lake. Had to pull over and run my wipers with the suirters on for what seemed like forever (likely only about a minute) before I could see again.

Drive with your headlights off at night. You won't attract as many bugs. Of course you'll be driving so slow that they will just roll off. +1 for Pam. I actually spray my springer spaniel with it during hunting season. No burrs stick.

Put some of that yellow headlight film on. Bugs can't see yellow light very well.

i would think bugs are the worst in the in south.. more swap areas like in fla or around the gulf. but bugs show up like rock chips on my car , not that i have any

So what's the best way to get the bugs off the paint? I just got back from a road trip and the front of my car is literally CAKED with bugs! Every tankful I had to really work the sponge/squeegee thingy at the gas stations to see again. Thanks.

Go to a car wash and use the pressure washer. Works like a dream, for me atleast :)

Lovebugs come out in May and in August, they are bothersome in that they are very acidic and not good for the paint. In some areas they can be so thick it is like a swarm. They are called lovebugs because they attach to another butt to butt and fly around in pairs. (no I'm not kidding)
Rejex works well at protecting the car and at least making bugs a lot easier to wash off. There is a thread on www.iwsti.com in which a guy was talking about using lemon Pledge to clean off bugs. Apparently it is something a lot of pilots use on the smaller planes. A second person advised it would be safe for your car. Sounds interesting, not sure if I want to be the tester though.

my buddy and i were coming back from reno when this gi-normous swarm of butterflies appeared; it was honestly the craziest thing i've ever seen. There were parts of the road ahead you could barely make out because this swarm was so freakin' dense. Apparently, it's a yearly thing that happens when they come up from mexico. Needless to say, it took a crap-load of time to get his car looking half way decent again. :(
