You refering to the turn signal? Probably just a reflection of an orange colored bulb, since they're clear.
| boost junkie | 11-22-2005 11:41 AM |
^^what he said. just clear your headlights and replace the turn signal and parking bulbs with amber.
| spooledwrx | 11-22-2005 02:16 PM |
right.
what bulbs?
what bulbs?

^^^^What he said^^^^ same signal bulbs from the rear will fit in the front. the color from the lens will reflect in the houseing depending what angle you walk up on it, if you get what I am trying to explain. any cheap amber bulb will give you that look.
| spooledwrx | 11-22-2005 07:09 PM |
I didnt know that the rear bulb could work in the
front...interesting.
BUT, in that pic I posted, the orange bulb is in a different location.
what bulb would I use for that?

the rear signals work in the front signals on bugeye's too.
just to let everyone know... the taillight/brakelights are 7440/7443(mono/dual filiment)
the turn signals are 7507 european style bulbs and the backup lights are 7440 too.

Go to Napa or Pep Boys or Advance Autoparts and look up your car. Or just look in your owners manual and you can see what all of your lights are (the #ID code) Hell, you can even find your map lights in there.
If your talking about this light circled and pointed out in red, it's not in a different location. That's the stock position. Maybe its a smaller bulb, but that is def the stock location.

| IIdiceII | 11-23-2005 01:41 PM |
is it really that hard for you to find what bulb that is? just find the bulb size or number and get an amber replacement.

Yes you do need it and no you dont. it all depends on how strict your law enforcement is. Technically you need amber blinkers, by law. I left mine clear for a month or so, then I went out and bought amber 7443 replacements. I spray painted them with High temp paint to match my car. looks silver but blinks amber. I will post some pics when I get some.

Here is my headlight, I cleared it, painted the houseing a semi gloss black and painted my turnsignal bulb silver with high temp spraypaint, blinks orange looks silver. and a can is only like $5.
Then why are there bmw's with clear blinkers?
That's a good point, If you ever said that to a cop he would be like..."well this doesn't look like a BMW so here is your warning" or worse, a ticket....

Sorry for the night pic, but it looks more like the JDM look in the daylight. My flashlight and camera flash kept flairing the orange all over the reflector.
Blazer Xtreme Lites. Got them from AutoZone for like 5 bucks. If you don't have one near you, call up the closest one and have them ship it to you, which is what I did. ~$10-12 total.

Here is what clearing your headlights and spraypainting your bulbs with high temp paint looks like......

And now the rear, except they are the stock clear bulbs from the front of the car just spraypainted to match the car, because you can't notice them too well when your headlights are on. They work fine in the back, no police trouble yet.

AutoZone carries them, and the rear turn signal bulb fits the front, so you can get them from the dealership.

Wrong.
They have to BLINK amber.. they do not have to BE amber. That is why the BMW's are allowed to get away with it.

That is what I ment. Obviously it doesn't matter what color they are if your not using them as long as when they are being used they flash amber, my blinkers are silver but flash amber. But then again BMW and most Volvos flash white/yellowish they come from the dealer like that and I have never heard of them getting hassled. IMO It all depends on how "none stock" your car looks/how big of a dick the cop wants to be.

Yeah, it depends on the cops. Yeah, you can get out of the ticket when you go to court to fight the ticket. But I have been pulled over in my Honda for the chrome bulbs in the daytime. They obviously were amber when i put on my hazards after being pulled over by the damn cop. It all depends on what the cop feels like when he/she sees you. By law, yeah you can get away using the chrome bulbs. But it doesn't get you out from being pulled over.
We still get pulled over for exhaust...when the exhaust laws were dropped that said no modified exhaust are allowed if they don't come from the dealership.

I can't believe they were pulling people over for that, because when that law was out if your car was considered a "classic" and you had antique plates you didn't need cats, hell i don't even think u had to have mufflers.
It's like is this town that safe where you have nothing better to do? Way to waste tax payers money. :furious:
