Carbon Fiber Rollcage Covers part 1

4rallygirl 01-25-2003 10:07 AM

Carbon Fiber Rollcage Covers
Wow! These are the coolest things yet! And affordable! I don't even have my rollcage installed yet....waiting for The Gravel Crew to find the time....but I couldn't resist these rollcage covers. I bought them from Gimmie Composites.

Not only do they look very, very cool......they keep your rollcage from getting scratched..
GoodFinder 01-25-2003 09:50 PM

Looks very nice. Thanks for posting the pics. I'll have to give them a call to see what they can do with my setup.

Thanks for the cool pics, I can't locate gimmie composites. Do you have the phone number? What else do they make?
4rallygirl 01-26-2003 10:19 PM

Hey Rallydog812,
Gimmie Composites' phone # is (909) 551-5640. They make corvette parts for the C5R, they make stuff for Daimler Chrylser and they just finished a WRX Widebody Kit. Obviously, they make carbon fiber rollcage covers. You should give them a call as it seems they make most everything. PM me for more info if you want.
whiterabbit 01-26-2003 10:58 PM

do they have a website?

bump!
TMRRALLY 01-27-2003 01:09 PM

I bought a set last week and they look great. They slip right over the 1.5 inch tubing. Looks way better than the scuffed up paint from the harnasses hitting the cage.

[/B][/QUOTE]For my situation in particular, in the front section I already have the really thick padding. What I'm most excited about here is for the rear section. But then again, I'm only using a 4-point race roll bar with diagonal cross brace and should harness bar. I would like to "cover up" the "scratches" without having to pay for a custom paint job. And, these covers in the rear parts of the assembly would look cool, too!

GoodFinder :)
TMRRALLY 01-27-2003 01:30 PM

I Put them on my door bars that are too low to need pading but high enough to have my harnass hit it when I take it off. Any way this is my daily driver that I race and show. I have no problem spending money on thing that help make the car look good.

Subie Gal 01-27-2003 02:26 PM

oh i see... these are show cars..
not race cars... my bad :D

i just repaint my cage when it scratches in places that the padding doesnt cover...

for a show car tho.. those would be a nice addition ;)

Now when you scratch the carbon what are you going to do?

Cool looking though.

COVERS
These covers work great for the tube that runs along the door sill, getting in and out scratches the crap out of the tubing, especially with muddy feet..for us rally guys that is. And Jamie.. we dont need padding on the tube that runs along the door sill, so these work great for our race cars as well :p These guys make a bunch of stuff for the wrx including a gearset that I cant break!
Subie Gal 01-27-2003 06:16 PM

well i have padding on a lot of my roll cage...
more yellow the better :D

and the bits that are exposed to the ins and outs..
are covered with stongard ;)

hehehee...

We work hard to promote Rally racing. All of my groups cars are street legal, race and help promote at car shows. This is a cool product and I see no reason for you to keep trying to make fun of the fact that we like to have our rally cars not looking like crap. I pad where I need to pad and I would like the rest of the areas to look nice and well kept up. I am NOT talking about fluffy show cars but car that get used every day.

Any part of the roll cage that could possibly come in contact with your body should have padding, not CF. I also have an old Datsun 510, and I lose count at ever show how many cars show up with cages and no padding. What happens at the first accident? Body contact with severly unflexible DOM. DOA.

Vast majority of human injuries in car wrecks are not from chassis intrusion, but from the body careening off stuff.
Recce01 01-27-2003 08:06 PM

website?

Yes, i agree. As I stated before, I have used the covers on areas of the cage that are NOT going to make contact with my body. I, and Recce build rollcages and as any good rally cage should be, we try very hard to build them as close to the (car) body as possible. This was not ment to be a debate over the safty of rollcages but a thread to show a cool product that not too many people know about.

I prefer a nice powdercoat of the exterior color of the car but those are decent looking :)

The covers will stand up longer then paint will, I believe. Also you don't have to cover any of the inside to repaint scrated paint all the time. They look really good too.
Powder coating is harder to repair if damaged. It takes more time to remove if and when you have to weld in sharp corners.

I agree 100%. I was just stating that I like powdercoated better. But, you are right that the CF will be easier to take care of. :)

I'm not trying to debate the issue...just stating my personal beliefs. Thanks
Julian 01-29-2003 11:11 AM

What's to stop the seat belt buckle from scrating the clear/resin of the carbon fiber?

My opinion is that the carbon fiber is durable enough that it won't scratch nearly as badly as paint will.

Hey mvstype:

Not familiar with the lingo here. What does "HIC" mean?
