From the link: "Application will mean reducing overall weight by about 20kg per door."
That's a reduction of over 40 lbs per door! I have a hard time believing that. I think it means if you don't put the door card, window, etc back in, and even then I have a hard time believing it. Has anyone taken their whole door off? I can't imagine that one door even weighs 50 lbs with everything on it.
Have fun dying in a side impact!

Most sanctioning bodies require a cage with full door bars when composite doors are used - eats up a bit of the weight savings - though if you were already fully caged it might make sense. Also, a track-only car probably wouldn't have windows (at least in front doors).

Fiber Images makes front and rear carbon fiber doors for WRX/STi and they told me it was about $1200 per pair.
| gargleblaster | 02-17-2005 09:43 AM |
"King of Cool"
hehe - I can't believe they actually have that in their product description.
| mbiker97 | 02-17-2005 09:44 AM |
This reminds me of the one kid that goes to a meet I go to that has carbon fiber fenders, hood, deckild, and bumpers on his EG Civic. Waste of money and effort, but at least it's not my waste.
| DumbUglyDragon | 02-17-2005 09:55 AM |
Absolutely a waste of money just like CF hoods on new age imprezas, more bling than functionality. Save the money and buy yourself a new turbo and/or some engine management.
| 02R6 | 02-17-2005 10:35 AM |
It'd be kind of cool if they had carbon fiber door cards.
| MidnightSti05 | 02-17-2005 10:48 AM |
How heavy are the stock sti doors, I think they feel pretty light compared to other cars i've sat in..

I can just imagine how poorly they will fit....
Or, it will be adhesive backed that just sticks to the existing doors.
-and someone would buy it...
iggy

Subaru doors are pretty heavy. I don't know the exact wieght but they are more than 40lbs. I think it's because of the side impact beams.

That site states a savings of 20kg per door or roughly 44 lbs. I'd bet our doors are closer to the 75-85 lb range.
Would like to see these guys produce replacement fenders and add-ons for the rear of a wagon... but not with sedan style flares.. I have other flare style ideas in mind. :D

Pull one of your doors off, you'll be surprised. Car doors are really heavy!

Too much cf for me... unless the entire car is CF, and even then it's just a waste of money.
Also, the fitment looks kinda iffy to me. Bad fitment on a hood or trunk lid are bad enough, but if it's your freakin door it better be right on.

yeah, a couple guys from HS got busted doing that. They got a siren from spencers and starting pulling people over, until they pulled over a undercover cop.
$2000 fine EACH. Ouch.

the WRC cars actually do run full CF door cards, I am not sure how much weight is really saved but I think it is more and issue of clearance for the cage than anything else.
the new group N 2004 and newer cards even have slot for power window switch.

Haha, ridiculous. But then again, the stock doors DO dent WAY too easily. I remember I was helping my grandma get out of my moms benz in the garage. I put my hand on the edge of the benz's door, so it wouldn't hit my car. After she got out, I looked, and there is like tiny tiny indentation from where my hand was!!! ***. You can't even see it normally though, only under certain light... but thats whack.
