Cheapest Braille Battery part 1

chaddeus 01-17-2006 03:04 AM

Cheapest Braille Battery
I decided to get Braille Battery Model # B14115 and I am looking for the cheapest price.

So far, the cheapest I know was $157 from SoJDM.com. I searched the forum and they are selling as low as $115 (New) but those were old threads.

Anybody know where I can get a cheap new Braille Battery?

4 pounds heavier... http://www.batterymart.com/pdf_files/odyssey_guide.pdf the braille is expensive cuz its the lightest & best if your on a weight loss goal.

....d00000d......they are junk.....there have been a few posts by members that have bought them, junked them and are happy with PC680's.

the NON-MJ pc680 is ~13 pounds and UNDER $100.

If you buy a braille battery you are a fool.
chaddeus 01-17-2006 03:19 PM

But isn't the Braille better? The CCA, HCA, CA etc are better than the Odyssey. Also, because I am in Indiana, the weather might be pretty cold sometimes. What do you guys think?

run a search for the braille and hawker batteries. You should be able to see that more people have been running the hawker battery with fewer complaints than braille.
kunfuzion 01-18-2006 02:36 AM

hmm, havent had problems with my braille bat, i guess its not cold enough here in sunny socal?
USA 79S 01-18-2006 04:28 AM

my bad... good looking out. Maybe will get the hawker.
SilverSubaab 01-18-2006 07:52 AM

The Hawker is definately the way to go. I've had it for a while, and I've no complaints, even in 5 degree winter weather.
USA 79S 01-18-2006 09:40 AM

so wheres the best place to buy. The odessy pc680 is the same thing as a hawker pc680 right?
InfamousDX 01-18-2006 11:01 AM

no braille... no.

You haven't had problems with your Braille since you live in a *moderate* climate. My Braille didn't even last a year with the *heat* it saw in the Southwest. I've heard of several others having the same problem.

If I did it again, I would go with the Hawker. :)

I think so. If I am not wrong, Hawker Energy Products made batteries under the name called Odyssey.

...fer another $40 ya can have the real deal
StealthWRX 01-18-2006 08:36 PM

my braille lasted for like a week, and then wouldnt hold a charge. i have a stock sized batt in there now. made me angry
sola71 01-18-2006 08:58 PM

so does that mean its for sale ?
ittybitty_STI 01-19-2006 09:09 AM

Whats the diffrence between all of these and a Optima I live in Vermont where the winters are really cold and the summers can be hot.
fatgroundhog 01-19-2006 09:54 AM

I have the pc680 and have been very happy with it. Bought it on ebay. It has done fine during the cold Ohio winter.
hampster 01-19-2006 04:20 PM
my braille lasted for like a week, and then wouldnt hold a charge. i have a stock sized batt in there now. made me angry
ditto. If I left my car parked for just 2 days over the weekend, the battery couldn't start the car on Monday morning for work. I even charged the Braille up *outside* the car, and after just a few days (not wired to anything), the voltage dropped below 11V!

I think the Braille battery is a hit-or-miss product...some people have good ones, but many people get lemons that self-discharge within a couple days. As an AGM battery, it should hold a charge for months, even a year, when not connected to anything. The Hawker/Odyssey batteries simply have better quality control...and at 1/3 the price.
Uncle Scotty 01-19-2006 06:59 PM

I researched the whole light/small battery thing for a long time and read through everything that I could find on a bunch of forums....and the Odyssey batteries were the winn4r....no doubt.

Some of the testing to pass the MIL(military) spec rating for these is  and for the price, buying anything else is, IMO, foolish.

I wanted a battery that I could put where I wanted to put it(under the passengers seat) and not worry about doing that with it.
The PC680MJ is the only one that fits that requirement.
psmBoXer 01-24-2006 03:23 AM

No matter what you all say about Braille and for those who say that they don't last - I had their first battery and it has been good for over 9 months and I live in FL HOT AND HUMID.

Blake at braille is an excellent person to deal with and I am sure if anyone has problems he will replace the battery just like he did with my friend's who had a problem, so if there is ever a problem they will take care of you guys

Most of the problems are from people draining the battery too much and charging it with the wrong amperage.

I have one for sale that I bought never used ... I need the $$$

$120 shipped. Check the classifieds.

read THAT all the way through....and tell me that the Braille is worth a damn in any sort of comparison.

Didn't think so, no.
WgnWheel 01-24-2006 03:52 PM

This is the same battery as the braille..........exactly, but cheaper. i use it, 3 or 4 of my suby friends also use it with zero issues. the owner of surge uses it in his sti.

What's the purpose of the metal jacket for the 680?

....EXTRA HEAVY DUTY USAGE....and a bit better heat resistance.

If ya read the technical manual for the Odyssey battery family(need Acrobat reader).....http://www.odysseybatteries.com/files/techbook.pdf

....these are just about bulletproof....if ya not inclined to read the whole thing, start at page 22 of the above doc and read the "Shock, impact, and vibration testng of ODYSSEY batteries."
Pretty impressive.

Why not use an optima? I have the bigger red top in my jeep and its worked great. There was a smaller red top too i think it was a 750 ccv. Are these just too heavy??

B/c it weighs MUCH more than the 13-15 lbs for the Odyssey.
mindchatter 03-02-2006 08:25 PM

I run an Optima Yellow Top (51R) and IIRC it weighs in at 17'ish pounds. Been in through 2 New England winters w/o a problem.
STiled_04 01-06-2011 01:18 AM

I run a small Odyssey battery , and wanted to get a Braille just for the carbon case...ahh vanity :D After hearing so many bad things about Braille, think i will just stick will the Odyssey. This battery handles the 110+ hot desert summers, and just started last week in Flagstaff at 8 degrees. It handles the hot and cold very well.
