dash trim is ruined!!!

So I cleaned my car, inside and out, and i leave it in the sun with the sun visor (so it doesnt get to hot inside) about 2 later i come to find out my air freshner (liquid in a small bottle) had leaked(my fault) . it was attached to the air vent so it ran down from there onto the trim that goes around the radio and AC controls. well turns out leaving in the florida heat that it baked onto my trim and when i try to remove it (which is REALLY har) its taking off the paint. :furious: the good thing is that one trim was the only one ruined.
I'm going tommorrow to the dealer to see how much it'll be for a replacement. Anybody have any idea how much is that one piece?
I saw somebody on here who replace their original with a spec c set, and he was selling his stock but i cant find that thread.
Any suggestion?
I dont want to paint it black cause all the other trims will have to be painted black, and I prefer the silver color.

Then paint it silver and save yourself over $100

I know which tread you are talking about. http://www.japanparts.com has the S204 dash. I must of had something on my hand, In a small section I have a run stain on the silver center dash.

Unfortunatly, you really can't...
You WILL need to repaint everything for it to look right :(
What about making it a slightly darker silver...? Gun metalish or something?
Just a thought, and you'd have something different for your efforts.

give it a nice darker silver or grey color

thanks everyone for the suggestion. if that trim turns out to be expansive (which always is at the dealer) then i'll have no choice to repaint it all to a similar silver thats suggested from you ya

I was going to repaint the trim a different color, but i dont' know how to paint the radio to match, so I'm just going to wait until I get a new unit to put in it. It's on my list of things to do anyways.

repainted everything really only takes a couple hours, and thats just because it has to dry, 2 or 3 coats with 15-30 minutes inbetween coats. takes about 10 minutes to get all the pieces off.

"Can't" is an extreme overstatement. You CAN get a paint that will match anything, any time....it's just not off-the-shelf. Take the piece to a professional automotive paint supplier. They can match it from the area that is not damaged. I matched our German partner's red paint for our pumps (red is very difficult to match consistently) with a couple trips and 3-4 trys with a local automotive paint supplier. My old man has a '67 GTO that was painted Signet Gold on a humid day causing the metal flake to lay down strangely. He too was able to get a trim piece repainted to match 100%. Don't say he "CAN'T", just let it be known it might take a little legwork.

That's what you get for using a cheesy-ass air-freshener.
You like that taxi-cab smell?

Don't worry, you would have done other damage to the SORRY quality paint on these plastics. One of the cheapest things about the cars. Mine has a bunch of hairline scratches from standard use.
I even replaced one of my parts for $30, and it's scratched again. Won't do that again! Painting them is probably the best solution (if you want to go that route)
Totally SUX A$$

Leg work and lots of $$$ I bet. I was giving the guy an easy solution, but thanks for the info anyway. I personally do not care enough about my trim to goto a paint store 3 or 4 times to get it right
On a classic car, hell ya I would!

Rustoleum Textured paints: some are made for plastics and outdoor use which means they stand up to extreme abuse and never fade, chip, crack or peel. They have ranges from black, gray, silver, beige, green, and other outdoor colors such as you would use for patio furniture.
Ive used their textured Black on my radio trim, vent trim, A,B,C pillars, and pillarless front grills I do. It is wonderful paint!

Just make sure you sand the **** out of it...and use plastic primer! if not it WILL come off! I learned from this the hard way....I sanded and just sprayed...and the paint started to come off where ever I would adjust the air vents with my hand. . I did it over with the primer...and even witha knife its much harder to scrape off.

Def thing to do is contact the company that manufacture the air freshener. I know someone that has successfully managed to claim back the cost of new stereo after his was damaged (it did explode on him!!) Darn things should never have been invented!

lol, old thread.
i sure did and the company reimburse me for the damages.

And you can get silver knobs that match the Shifter trim at Japan Parts of SGP. And black dial faces too if you want.
