Did I get screwed on my STi shifter Trim?

I got the STi shifter trim from Gruppe-S (my g/f bought it for me for Xmas :D)
anyway, It looks VERY cheap....much like the replica. Looks like a piece of cast aluminum that was painted with some dull silver paint. Nothing like the picture of the OEM part on the Gruppe-S web site.
Is there a way to tell the difference?
BTW, She was charged for the OEM, not the replica

Why not post a picture of it so we can all have a look. I've dealt with Gruppe-S many times and they've always done good by me. If you suspect that they sent you the wrong one, just give them a call.

call them and make sure, it sounds like you may have gotten the replica instead.

gruppe-s sells a replica and a real one.

talk to your girlfrined, find out which one she ordered, and if there is a mistake just call them up. They should take care of you :)

I know they sell the replica and the OEM.
She ordered the OEM, thats whats on the invoice, but I dont think thats what they actually sent.
I've ordered from them in the past as well and they were great. never heard anything bad about them at all. I just sent them an email. I'll post a picture here in a second

They're HUGE, but I was hoping you would be able to see the finish of the metal if they were larger. It doesn't look as rough as the OEM part to me
and I dont know what that is on my finger in the pictures

My thoughts exactly. I'd be upset to even pay the $35 for the replica if its this bad :(

Hmmm... Looks like a replica to me. The nuts and bolts for mounting come packaged in bags with blue and white labels with subaru part numbers on them. Did you get this?

the oem sti trim IS painted silver, it looks MUCH cheaper than the knockoff. every knockoff i have seen was polished or grained. i bought one straight from a subaru dealership, in the subaru bag, so i know i got a real one.
it's painted because i scratched the damn paint during the install. i ended up scotchbriting the entire thing, so now mine LOOKS like a replica!
you got the real thing (unless they started painting the replicas). don't scratch it :alien:

you sure about that? cuz i have dropped many wrenches and tools on my trim, and it dont see to be painted. the thing is all messed up and all it does it dent, no paint comes off, not looks like its chiping. its the same color on the inside as the outside.

Its a replica, I looked at my oem sti and the letters sti are much deeper into the metal. also the area where the screws are, even after pulling the screws out, has to piled up paint, it looks as if it were cast out of aluminum.

I think now is a good time since you pretty much know now that it's a replica.

Yep, it is definitely a replica (I am at home). I owned the replica and that is exactly what mine looked like. I have the real one now, and it looks quite a bit different.

i am 100% sure. it came from a subaru dealer (i work next to exeter subaru www.subaruwrxparts.com), in the bag with the subaru part number / sticker on it. i gouged mine HARD.
looking at those pics it does look like a replica. the paint on the subaru one is a very nice, even, textured finish, almost looks sandblasted or something to that effect. it is a vaery good quality, it may even be powdercoated because it doesn not have a common painted texture. the paint on that one (above) is kinda thin, looks sprayed on and the area around the sti logo looks a bit off.
if it came from gruppe-s i am sure it was an oversight. talk to max and he will fix it up for you. the are, by far one of the top 5 vendors on this site and they are always quick to take care of their customres.

I emailed Gruppe-S before I even posted this. Still waiting on reply (which is kind of unlike them  )
we'll see what happens, I'll keep you all posted. I really feel this is the replica, the quality is CRAP :(

You think thats bad, you should see the back side of it
So lets see:
- Has a HORRIBLE painted on metallic finish
- Bolt bag has no blue/white stickers/decals
- STi engraving is very shallow
- No part numbers on bolts or trim piece itself

Just got this back from them:
Hi Justin,
The genuine one should have a grainy sort of finish while the replica is
more of a brushed finish... but yes you did order the genuine and if the one
you received has a smooth finish to it then it most likely was an error on
our part ( the shipping guys probably got too used to sending out relicas as
almost no one ever orders the genuine one haha) . If that's the case, then
you can either return the one you received for the right one, or I can just
give you the one you have now for free if you don't mind it. I really don't
want to trouble you with all the hassles of doing a return especialyl since
it's our fault :(
Thanks

The real one is shot-peened and then clear coated, but is not painted.
I can tell from the pic it is definitely a replica. The real one has nicer casting and finishing, and the letters are much better defined.

That is definately a Gruppe-S replica (I have)... my friend has a real STi one...
Gruppe-S is always helpful although I have seen the occassional shipping error...
The fake one isn't all that bad & looks "good enough" :)

Gotta go with that. $80 to $90 for that little piece is ridiculous, I don't care how it's made, genuine or not. Someone should make a carbon/titanium version and sell it for $295. :p
