Do any body know what RedBull do besides energy drinks
I just dont understand why an energy drink company have so much money to compete in F1 for many years and doing not bad either.
TyrannoSullyRex 03-29-2005 11:37 AM

easy math

.03 material/distribution + 1.13 marketing < 2.50 a can
artkevin 03-29-2005 11:43 AM

Not a damned thing that I know of. I think they have a sugar free version too.
PaulC 03-29-2005 11:44 AM

Part of it is the founder just really likes motorsports. But besides that it seems a natural fit for the crazy insane pace of professional motorsports.

What does TIDE have to do with NASCAR?
Dark 03-29-2005 11:52 AM

Doesnt Tide is one of the sponsor on that NSCAR, where as those RedBull F1 cars are come from purge RedBull company's money.
gargleblaster 03-29-2005 11:54 AM
More than a billion cans of Red Bull are consumed each year.
So, to continue the theoretical cost breakdown, you could just add $.25 to the $1.13 marketing expense and come up with a $250 million/yr budget for F1.
Dark 03-29-2005 12:04 PM

Besides the owners of RedBull are crazy about F1, i just dont see why they dump so much cash on this sport. Remember if they want to advertise in F1, they can sponsor one of the team. As a non car manufacture team, i would say they are doing very well and pretty competitive.
Scooby Freak 03-29-2005 12:05 PM

They just bought Jaguar Racing a couple months ago.

??????? English ????
Dark 03-29-2005 12:08 PM

Those RedBull owners must be from those oil export counties. MUST BE.
Scooby South 03-29-2005 12:08 PM

hmm redbull......vodka......>me> lush....;)
They just bought Jaguar Racing a couple months ago.
Yeah, they got a complete Plug and Play F1 team from Ford. I guess the owners are living out an old dream. They used to sponsor one of the other teams (I forget which one). The new rules seem to be making things a bit more even until someone figures out the best system and everyone matches it.
speedyHAM 03-29-2005 12:11 PM

^^^ Why not try reading up on the owners of Red Bull first, then spout useless and incorrect information. The owner of Red Bull is from Europe.
Dark 03-29-2005 12:14 PM

Sorry for my bad english. What i mean is isnt that the Tide NASCAR is just a sponsor, where as the RedBull actually own and pay other car manufacture to build the F1 cars
Dark 03-29-2005 12:16 PM

i was just kidding about the owners from oil export countries.
bjorn240 03-29-2005 12:23 PM

Red Bull is Austrian. Like Gerhard Berger and Niki Lauda.

Latest forbes issue puts redbull ceo as one of the worlds richest billionares.... Yes, i did say billion. I think thats how he can afford an f1 team
artkevin 03-29-2005 12:43 PM

Their is one owner of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz. The guy is carzy about all forms of motorsport, DTM, F1, Moto Gp, dirt bike, you name it, he's into it. I think he is a marketing genius. He said that Vodafone sponsors Ferrari but Redbull is it's own team. He sees a distinct differnece and I tend to agree. Everytime there is a break down, a pass, a podium a win or anything, the announcers have to say the word Redbull. Probably worth a lot more then say, Dupount on Jeff Gordon's car or West cigs on the Merc.
But yes, he is in the top 10 richest people in the world like Penguinking said so I think he can foot the bill.

artkevin is right. Deitrich came up with Red Bull in the late 80s. He was a marketing exec at a meeting in Tokyo, and was interested how the Japanese businessmen would engage in these all day marathon meetings fuelled by an energy cocktail. He figured if he marketed the cocktail (or something near it) correctly, he could make a killing. And he did. Red Bull had been around for about a decade before it started showing up in the states.

<-- Used to work for Red Bull

Really? Tell us more! All i remember is the old old red bull cans were actually glass bottles that somewhat resembled red stripe beer bottles
Osgood30 03-29-2005 01:32 PM

Red Bull have definitely been around for a long time. And they have been in F1 for a while too. Remember Sauber in 94? Red Bull was their main sponsor.
artkevin 03-29-2005 02:00 PM

I like the brand but that stuff tastes like crap. I couldn't drink it if you paid me.

By the way, has anyone tried EJ10, Eddie Jordan's stab at energy drinks? I guess its not as easy has he thought.

Not much more to say on the history really. I was a "student brand manager" for them back in college. All I can say is that they know how to market, they know how to party, and they sponsor some really cool stuff (even beyond motorsports). Maybe the taste isn't for everyone, but you've got to respect the guy for making enough money to buy an F1 team after selling just one $2 consumer product for 15 years...

It still does in Europe, I don't even think it's carbonated there.

Thats harsh man. EJ had his glory days and then threw them in the crapper when F1 became a side project for him.

The original recipe Red Bull was made in Thailand and is being marketed as a seperate product by a sperate company, the Red Bull you know has always been sold in cans, the bottled non carbonated Red Bull is the original recipe drink. http://www.redbull-canada.ca/aboutus.html

Echoing what was said before...Redbull was a huge success in Europe and some Asian countries before it came over here, needless to say they have a ton of cash

I remember my parents drinking the stuff back in the early eighties. It came in small glass bottles that were and still are sold in asian stores.

Red Bull sponsors our local TSD rally events too.

Ughh.. just be careful: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/index.php?newsid=5753

Heed the warning about no more than 3 cans a day.
cboggess 03-30-2005 03:01 PM

One of the other products they make is this really disgusting over sugared, sickly sweet, phlegm tasting energy drink.... Oh wait...
Dussander 03-30-2005 03:38 PM

On a slightly related note.... I tried that B (to the) E crap that Budweiser sells in the hopes I could drink it while working in the garage and stay awake. I think I drank 3 of them over a couple of hours. I couldn't sleep for like 4 hours after that. That sucked. It tastes more like Red Bull then Bud, but I will let the reader decide which is worse. :)
johnei 03-30-2005 03:45 PM

Redbull has been a sponsor in F1 for many years but this is the first year they have their own team. I believe they also refused additional sponsors because the image wasn't right or they didn't want too much stuff on the cars. They did buy the complete Jaguar team but they've made some management changes and it seems to be doing much better now.
