does anyone like their ti shift knob?
Just curious - love my new 2003 wrx with short throw shift etc. but the ti knob ... i just don't know. It seems like a slick idea but it sure isn't easy to grab. What's the concencus out there? Any knob everyone really likes instead? Thanks from a newbie (just 300+ miles on my subie.)

I used it when I drove someone else's WRX and I hate it. Right now I use the Kartboy shift knob because I bought the short shifter.

Momo Race Air or Air Race, I forget....
Check in the vendors forum for Auto Innovations
I had the STi titanium knob, sold it on e-bay for $70 and used that money to buy the Momo knob and it's very nice!

You're talking about the cylinder shape one? I love it, more than those ball shaped shift knob.

it's alright...it gets the job done...though I would LOVE to get my hands on a MOMO Race Air Leather...;)

they get way too hot in the sun...OUCH

I'll answer a "no" to your question. I ordered it with the car and found that the idea of a titanium shift knob was much better than the reality. I found it to be uncomfortable and awkward, so I sold it and bought a prodrive knob with the proceeds. I like it much better!

i hated it . i use greddy now.

One thing you'll find out very quickly about the STi Ti knob is that if you park your car in the sun for a few hours it WILL heat up to a few hundred degrees. I had the Ti knob and like many others sold it off and used the $ to buy a Momo Race Air Leather from Auto Innovations. I would also recommend steering clear of the Momo Air Leather Alloy as it wil get pretty hot, too. The Ti knob also didn't feel very comfortable to me, it is too small and too light. The Momo actually makes shifting feel easier. Install was easy, I didn't need any special mounting kit, I used what it came with.

I really like mine, but I will admit that it gets damn hot in the summer. I'm not looking forward to how it feels on a winter day in CO either. Maybe that will change my mind, but for now I love it, it's different.

Does anyone like the Kartboy Knob? I've been thinking about replacing mine with that.
| CobraKLR | 08-19-2002 11:36 PM |
I hate mine. Too small and the share isn't the most erogonomic. I almost feel like they intentionally made it to small to cut down on the use of the expensive material. It also seems to rotate too easily. I am always tightening it.

Had mine for a month. . couldn't stand it when it got hot. Got a Momo Race Airleather knob and couldn't be happier. :)

I have to agree with the majority of folks on here... I don't like my Ti knob either. It isn't comfortable to shift with. It's so small. And it just looks dinky! :p I went to this place where it was 105 degrees, so of course inside of the car was even worse. When I got in, I couldn't even shift! I had to put a towel on the knob because it was that hot. I really want a Momo Air Race Leater also. I need to go sell my Ti knob on Ebay!

I use the Kartboy knob. I like it because it's really simple and it fits my hand well. I don't like the fact that it gets BLAZING HOT in the sun and I haven't used it in the winter yet. But I do like it.

I don't really mind the STI ti knob THAT much. I feel kind of bad selling it because I remembering how much it cost NEW. It came with my short through shifter.
BUT, now that I have been reading this thread.................can someone post a pic or a link to that momo leather one that every one seems to have?
Thanks

The temperature doesn't bother me because I have a pair of driving gloves in my car
You just have to know that you don't 'grab' it like other shift knobs, you have to sort of 'push' it around on the side. Like I said earlier, I like it this way better than those ball knobs.

I drove a WRX with the STi knob and couldn't stand it. I'm glad I was able to try it out before ordering it... now i have my MOMO "Race AirLeather Aluminum" and I love the thing. The aluminum does get hot after being in the sun all day, but that's what car covers are for :D The perforated leather matches the steering wheel perfectly too.
I bought mine from a place in Canada and paid about $25 less than anywhere I found in the States including shipping, but (please don't hurt me....) I can't find the place online again to save my life.
If i do I'll be sure to post a link.

i LOVE my STi titanium shift knob. I wouldnt have any other knob. I might put a rubber sleeve around it for the hot days cause it does get VERY HOT. The other knobs are too big. I like a smaller shift knob that feels like a joystick. I hold my knob like a joystick (base is inbetween my middle and ring finger) so the narrower knobs fit me better.
| jesse370 | 08-20-2002 04:47 PM |
I have to agree I love the sti knob. It is the perfect size and fit for "me". I don't like a huge shifter.
| TerenceT | 08-20-2002 05:39 PM |
for those with small hands... like mine, Momo is too big for me, and i don't like to put my hand on top of it, i like grabing it like joystick or from the side.
another suggestion would be Sparco "Racing" knob, not the globe x or what ever, $35
their simplist one, it's an alumimum, about the size of an egg, comes in 7 colors i think
http://www.sparcousa.com/ptuning_shiftknobs.asp?id=213
and the brush aluminum matches the STi boot trim

I got the sparco shift knob, in the blue, matches paint perfectly and fits my hand perfectly $$$

I didn't like it and I got it as a option when I bought my car! I didn't like the channels and was a bit too small for me. Kept causing be to mis-shift.
I have not switched to the Ti WRC style. Like others have said, it gets real hot in direct sunlight.
BTW anybody want to buy my STi shift knob?

Do the Momo's still need an aftermarket adapter - or do they now fit OK and hold the boot up?
Which Prodrive does anyone recommend?
Thanks for the help.

Anyone wants a used Kartboy knob silver minus the logo for $20 plus shipping, let me know..

When I got my car I asked for them to take the knob off and give me the stock leather one at no cut off the sticker because I hated it so bad. Anyways they said it was part of a package so they couldn't credit it back. After driving for 5 months I can honestly say I jhave grown to like it. If I ever get a kartboy shorty I think I'm going to powdercoat it gunmetal to match my c/f interior.
