Does the white energy absorber bother anyone else? part 1

Does the white energy absorber bother anyone else?
In Delaware we have the option of having black license plates which are a little smaller than normal plates, which I love, but on the STi you can see the white engery absorber insider the rear bumper cover. It looks kinda crappy.. no big deal I guess, it just bugs me. Especially on my black car. Has anyone tried painting theirs black or using a permanent marker or something like that? So it's not as noticable...

Never heard of this. You could get the CF license plate surround offered by APR. I have it. It's actually made by Carbign Craft. Fitment is OK, not awesome. But it fits. And it would cover up this area.

Got any closer shots of the offending area?
AlxSti 06-10-2006 04:12 PM

yeah.. i figured it only happens to people in delaware. which is like 5 people on here. but here is a closer pic:

szeny 06-10-2006 05:53 PM

make a bracket that covers it or something... /endwhine
jac04 06-10-2006 09:07 PM

Put a piece of black electrical tape over it - that's what I did. Problem solved.
AlxSti 06-10-2006 09:20 PM

good idea.. thanks man. sounds a lot easier than trying to rub it with a marker!
AlxSti 06-11-2006 07:41 PM

electrical tape worked for about an hour.. then it just got all bubbley and fell off

Did you clean it first? Did you use good (3M) electrical tape? Mine has been on for well over a year now with no issues at all.

Watch out for spray paint. Some spray paints will attack the foam.
AlxSti 06-11-2006 09:09 PM

i figured spray paint would eat away at the styrofoam.. nah.. i didn't clean it.
Magnum626 06-11-2006 11:25 PM

black electrical tape, make sure it's clean.

You can probably get the cf plate thing at fizzautosports.com
BurtonCR 06-12-2006 12:55 PM

Spray paint works fine.

:-)

The only problem I have right now is the security screws that they provided don't seem to be the correct screws that were holding my license plate frame/plate on... the threads are much closer together... arg!

I might have to use my normal screws...eeek!

elsanto 10-09-2006 03:35 PM

If you spray paint it, you will probably eat away the structural integrity of that part, not saying its a big deal, but its useful when parallel parked. unless its some special kind of styrofoam in ther that is aerosol resistant..
pleue 10-09-2006 03:43 PM

anyone know if this cf piece fits wagons(2002)?
NewShockerGuy 10-09-2006 05:10 PM

Pics on the car... took a little while as I had to open the stock screw points just a wee bit so I could use the security torx screw so no one can just take a screw driver and steal it...lol..

^^^I can still see the white foam......................
JBravo920 10-09-2006 08:42 PM

I no longer see the foam because I am engulfed in the beauty of that piece, I must have one!!!!

(Yes, I still see the foam, but it doesnt matter anymore is what Im getting at, CF is just too pretty)
^^^I can still see the white foam......................
Hahaha...me, too.
80806STi 10-09-2006 11:06 PM

Just spray paint it. nothing is going to happen to it. that is not styrofoam it is a very high density foam. I work as a painter in a body shop and get automotive paint on those sometimes and nothing has ever happened, and automotive paint is much more caustic the any paint from a can.
DrD 10-09-2006 11:19 PM

If you are worried about painting the foam, just get a strip of plastic or laminate, paint that, then secure it inside the bumper with silicone
AlxSti 10-10-2006 12:06 AM

wow.. $135 and you can still see the foam. ha.. ill just try the paint
turbowagon02 10-10-2006 12:39 AM

i just used electircal tape, and its been on there since i brought the car home which is just about a year ago
2slofouru 10-10-2006 01:05 AM

Wipe the foam off and apply black duct tape = solved
NewShockerGuy 10-10-2006 04:14 AM
wow.. $135 and you can still see the foam. ha.. ill just try the paint
LOL

I wasn't getting that piece to COVER the foam... infact I can't even tell unless you are eye level and on the ground.. I got that cause I could see spending $130 for a cf exhaust finisher..hehehe

This to me is more of a better buy!

w00t w00t

I love it.

But yea, for the foam, I am going to spray it with some black paint.

Anything is a better buy than the god-awful priced exhaust finisher. But still I like the CF rear plate trim quite well.

Kids got me a piece of sticky reflective red tape. Reflects like you have another driving light back there at night. Actually looks kinda neat.
